That picture of Vaan is absolutely terrifying.WithoutGraceXII
lol, watch his look will be the sponsor for future FF games
no, I don't miss, but they're probably just going to remake the older games for the 3DS, like they did for the DS, so count on it already have happened, and count on it to happen againlamprey263
I'm sure it will, but I'd like to see a new FF that breaks away from todays stereotypical jrpg, over-designed characters. I wish they could just let Nomura have his Kingdom Hearts and let him make other new IPs as well. I know plenty of people love his games and his styIe. Its not my cup of tea, but thats cool.
Bring in a new character artist and character designer in general for the new FFs moving forward. FF has great environmental art and creature art, but god I'm sick of the characters.
I think every FF fan knows that the series constantly reinvents itself and thats cool. I like how they experiment with story, lore, battle systems, leveling systems, weapons, world layout, etc. why cant we get that same type of treatment with characters?
^^^
Funny that you post Fang and Sahz first. Those probably were two of the best. I liked Fang because she actually does remind me of the old school FF styIe. I cant complain about her design at all. Sahz has an original visual design and is actually a good character. Probably the best in the game.

We need more FF characters like this guy:
Even though he's not from 1-9, Auron is probably the most badass character the franchise has ever had. At the very least, he's top 3.
How it went from him to characters like Snow in a span of ten years is beyond me.
sandbox3d
Auron was a great character.
And KH Mixer you can gtfo my friend. You're the one that came in here raging.
You didnt see me in the "FFXIII2 on the horizon, so lets circle jerk about FFXIII" topic did you? No. You guys had your opinions and I left it alone.
Excuse me for having preference. Excuse me for disliking Nomuras tired styIe. Excuse me for sharing the same sentiments that so many other fans share. I should love every piece of sh*t that SE prints to disc these days, right?
**** off.
Obviously you didn't enter that thread. Otherwise you would've known that the TC was being sarcastic. That thread was practically FFXIII group hate session. And no, I won't excuse you for sharing sentiments that have been shared COUNTLESS times already. You guys are like broken records. If you didn't like FFXIII, man up and stfu about it already. Wait for the next one and pray that it's more to your liking. Or you can just continue to b**** about it on every thread you see that has to do with Square-Enix or JRPGs in general. I prefer the former myself.
You can thank FFX for starting the bad FF character "curse" as I like to say it, that game sucked so bad in the character department with the exception of Auron,Rikku and to some extent Kimarhi.
Tidus is still my most hated video game character to this day.
I shower you with praise my friend of a higher intelligence. With a Kingdom Hearts reference in your user name it can only mean you are enlightened like myself. These other guys could never understand the fruits and glory of great Nippon! Effiminate males are the true bad asses. I know I cant relate to a guy unless he has no jaw line, porcupine hair, belts holding up zippers that also hold up belts and zippers, big Disney character feet, vests covering man brahs, etc... you know like the TRUE BAD ASSES. Mmmm so Kawaii!!!! I hope the male lead in FF15 looks like this. http://files.myopera.com/ShallowMuse/blog/BillKaulitz17.jpg[QUOTE="GloriousNippon"][QUOTE="KH-mixerX"]I've about had it with people *****ing about FFXIII. Everything single thread that even hints at JRPGs contains at least a handful of people moaning about how terrible a game it is and how they miss (*insert favorite FF title here*). Y'know what? Nobody cares how much you hate FFXIII. Every criticism applied to it since its release has been established thousands of times over. So SE put out a FF that you don't like. Just wait for the next numbered installment. The best thing about the series is that each new numbered title is different. Chances are that you'll eventually get one you like again. So please, shut up already.musalala
I laughed sooo hard ....But you joking right ...obviously your joking ........ please tell me your joking :?
Lol, the funniest part about it is that I can't tell if he's being serious or not.

and you have posted the worst two to generalize and prove a point.
Don't get me wrong, I don't like the look of Hope but maybe the reason is my age, maybe the Justin Beiber demographic loved the design but to say FFXIII characters weren't good is not true, even characters like Hope, Sarah and Vanille were way more real to life looking than most recent FF games which included downright terrifying characters to look at.

I asked an honest question, stated my opinion, made an honest poll in that it doesn't ignore anyone elses opinion.... I never put forth my ideas as fact, or said that anyone else is wrong.
Sorry I prefer the older styIes and felt like having a discussion. Judging from the poll it seems there are a few that agree. Everyone in this thread has been pretty mature about it for the most part, but you have done nothing but come in here and rage while adding nothing to this discussion at all.
[QUOTE="ZarbonX"]I actually agree, FF9 had terrible character design...one of the reasons why I never felt hooked to the game. I mean, steiner was the "tough guy" although he looked like a grown up baby with mental problemsFF6 / FF7 character look nothing like FF9
imo
FF4/FF9 had similar character that looked bad
cid looks horrible in ff4 ppl look horrible in ff9
i loved the spirtes in FF6
and i loved the character design in FF7
so basically FF6 and ff7 were well done an a few in ff4 were ok like kain/cecil
but i mean like still some looked horrible tellah looked bad cid looked bad porom/polom stupid
basically ff6 doesn't have any bad character an neither does ff7 they all are awesome
FF4/FF9 sucked for character imo so dont put them in the same boat as the good ones
lightleggy
Your argument is destroyed with one pic. FF IV, VI, VII and IX had the best and most memorable characters.
O sh*t. That guy looks so gay Thats why I never played that FF.
But yes. They should go back to their roots. I would like to see a combo of the previous games all in one. Have it where you can choose diiferent classes to start out with like #1 (but add all the new ones they created like dragoon), cool character designs like #4, good story line on the lines of #6 or #5.

Okay, maybe I was a little bit harsh. Sorry I fouled up your thread. That being said, you still might wanna take what I'm saying to heart. I'll just leave it at that.
I'd love it for Amano to be put in charge of Character & Monster design for a whole FF. With current technology, his sty!e would be rendered beautifully on screen.

Cool then. I do see where you're coming from, I just didnt appreciate the way you went about it, which is why in turn I resorted to insults.
Maybe FFXV will be just right for me. Who knows? And I know FFXIII hate is nothing new, but I'm not just telling everyone it sucks and that they suck for liking it. I'm just discussing it.
No worries though, glad we could come to an understanding.

I think thats a big part of it for me. When I look at Amanos art I keep thinking how awesome it would look fully realized on todays hardware. Besides the enemy sprites during battle in the 2d games, and some of his work in IX his art never really got to shine in game.

Sadly, Tetsuya Nomura rules Square now with an iron fist. Amano's art isn't appeciated enough.

I ****ing love you guys!
I always liked FF9 artstyle the best. It's wacky characters charmed the pants off of me. (I thought this was fitting seeing as how I was talking about Zidane. :P)
Zidane is my fav FF protaganist. He is all that is man. Freya has to be my second favorite. They're all really great though. Amarant felt a little tacked on to me though. :|
The world also just had this awesome.. zany feel to it. The whole renaissance style made it feel more "Final Fantasy" than 7 or 8.
FF VII had the second most memorable characters.. but not memorable in a good way. It's like those old Six Flags commercal with that old creepy guy dancing. You don't remember it because it was like "Oh wow cool Six Flags!" You only remember "Eww.. creepy pedo guy dancing in a tux.. :|"
Most likely not. I liked IV-VI's character designs, VII's was ok and I loved IX's character designs. XII outside of Vaan had I thoght ok character designs.
I hated VIII's and X (except Auron) character designs. XIII's to me is hit and miss. Overall I'm not a fan of Nomuras art.

Everything you said is truest of the true.
Zidane FTW. Enough with the melodrama and whiny protagonists. Ladies' man brought the awesome and the funny.

Whats wrong with 8? FF8 inspired Mike Tyson to get a Zell tattoo on his face, then the Hangover 2 decided to use Zells tattoo in its movie.
Thats pretty impressive.

I also thought most of VIII's designs were pretty weak. It's the feel of the game they were going for, I understand. But still pretty meh.

^This plus I thought the villain designs were lame. It also didn't help that I hated the cast besides Quistis.
[QUOTE="hayato_"]
Why should they go back? I enjoy Nomura's designs. They are not archaic and dull like most Final Fantasy games before him. One of the reasons why I still think Final Fantasy 9 and 12 were so dull and uninspiring.
But then again, they are all personal preferences. To each their own.
Wiimotefan
I agree with the red. I like the old styIe, but obviously many like the new.
I think the blue is a load of ****. At least Amano has a bit of range with his characters and clothing. His styIe is instantly recognizable, but within his styIe there has been so much variation over the years.
Nomura is a one hit wonder and keeps recycling his designs. When he tries to step outside his box he just exaggerates his same old tired aesthetics to an even more laughable degree rather than doing anything original. At this point his designs make it look like he has a library of heads, hair, feet and clothing accessories that he simply kit bashes together on the fly.
And TC, I gave up on this idea years ago. Something drastic would have to happen for SE to change things up. It is funny though. They keep saying they desperately want to appeal to regions outside of Japan (mainly the US), but they don't realize (or don't care) that the character designs in FFXIII, XIII-2 and Versus are probably the biggest issues with their reception.
And yes, you are an old fart. The younger generation is probably just as disgusted by the old styIe as you are by the new.
Amano recycles things too.

I like Amano's art, but let's keep in mind that Amano's art was heavily edited because it was impractical and nearly every character was white with blond hair.
I think Squall is the best design for a main character the series has ever seen. Love that jacket.

Auron the most Badass. Sorry, but I have to disagree. This guy is the MOST badass in the FF series. :cool:We need more FF characters like this guy:
Even though he's not from 1-9, Auron is probably the most badass character the franchise has ever had. At the very least, he's top 3.
How it went from him to characters like Snow in a span of ten years is beyond me.

I like Amano's art, but it always seemed a bit lacking in the diversity department. Sure he had his moments, but overall, a lot o his stuff looked the same. That's not to say that Nomura is any better though. I don't see why the people who like the classic style don't like FFXII. A lot of the characters in that game had the old fantasy feel. To me at least. Same goes for the setting. KH-mixerX
XIIs art design was really nice. Brilliant at times! The characters and setting were very reminiscent of old school FF.
I just hate that SE had to over-ride Matsunos wishes and shoehorn Vaan and Penelo into the game. What was so wrong with Basch being the lead (pov) character? Basch, Balthier, Fran and Ashe were just fine. Vaan was simply annoying to look at and while Penelo didn't fall into the typical hyper, dumb teen girl cliche, she did just kind of disappear into the background as an unnecessary character.
All that aside I could go for a cast more like XII again. XIIIs cast just makes me cringe! :P
I know it seems odd that I would **** so much after only one game that I dislike, but XIII took soooo long to make, then there is XIII-2 and Versus that follow a similar visual styIe and then this gen has been spent.
I don't think it would bother me so much if dev cycles weren't so killer long. On the PSX for example, I enjoyed 7 and really disliked 8, but it wasnt so bad cause I knew both 9 and 10 were right around the corner. The way things are now, who knows when we'll have FFXV in our hands?
I wish SE could just forget about MMOs being in the main series and work on their management so we can get a great FF every 2.5-3 years.
It isn't going to happen. I been hoping for this for over 10 years. Those guys that did the early FF games are just long gone. The new generation in Japan likes the new looks. Just look at the recent anime movies. Even when they hire new guys to replace the current graphic artists it's going to be more of the pedo style.
