If EA was for sale then yes, MS could probably afford it.

But even if EA was on the market, I highly doubt MS (or any other company) would pony up the billionsneeded to make the sale. It would be one hell of an investment, one that would be incredibly difficult to justify.

Buying EA would be extremely expensive, and making EA 360 exclusive would cut into a lot of their profits.bballm10
But it would boost Microsoft's porfits. Microsoft would have control over so many franchises like C&C, MADDEN, NBA Live, etc. And they would get complete control over Panademic/Bioware. You know how many people would 360 over PS3 just for the sports games? The quality of EA's games would dramatically increase due to exclusive development. Sony wouldn't be able to compete in the US after that.

MS doesn't have enough to buy up any company, that's why they could only afford to pay developers and movie studios a few million dollars just to get what they wanted. Now this is coming back to bite them big time because these developers don't want to go through the things MS wanted them to do. Look at the GTA games GTA4 was delayed because of this, but now GTA5 is under development for the PS3 and there not even thinking of developing this game on the 360.

No. That would be like Mcdonalds buying out Buger King. i.e not gonna happen. I dont think MS could really buy as many companys as they want at the same time either. they dont got THAT much moeny.

If MS bought EA, then the percentage of crappy games would go way down.

Microsoft buying EA, or any of the big companies like ActivisionBlizzard and Ubisoft would screw up the entire industry. Returns from such big multiplatform companies wouldn't be as big, and third party softwear would go down great amounts on every other system.

M$ has about 60 billion IN CASH, this is not even counting the value of their stock (which is probably another 350Billion). So, they could easily purchase EA, but it would be a silly move just to win the console war.

People seem to have this myth about microsoft having an endless supply of money, like my physics teacher always used to say: "There is a big difference between 1 kabillionzillion and infinity. dont mistake the two for fear of being a fool." I think people need to realize that having tons of money is not the same as having infinite money, which is what ppl seem to think MS has. I bet 80% of the people on this board believe MS could buy the United States of America if it wanted :?

Wow, just, wow

No they don't have the money to. Take Accounting 101. Just because a company has or is worth a certain amount of money doesnt mean they can spend it.

According to 2007 Game Developer Magazine's company of the year rankings - based on the quality of games, innovation and new IPs - EA got 2nd place, their highest rank ever. Right behind Nintendo in 1st. Ahead of Square, Activision, etc. :D Anyway, under Japanese law you don't need to buy the entire company out to own it. You need something like 25% stake to 'control' the company, as Ford has been doing with Mazda since.. the 80s or something.

Take it yourself. You can spend it rather nicely. You can use dozens of methods, one of which would be using stocks - if you give enough stocks to own a smaller company, you will need a smaller bit of the parent company. In the case of MS, you only need 2.6% of MS stock to acquire full uncontested control of EA, and around 5% to fully own EA.

Basically, you're trading full ownership of EA to MS in exchange of minuscule ownership of microsoft.

They couldn't buy EA. It's illegal.

I'm not sure Antitrust law would apply in this case. Then again, it's not my field of expertise, so it might.
