I mean, I know that PC gaming will be on DVD for a long time to come, but with Microsoft being on HD DVD's side, perhaps they could help sway the battle by making windows HD DVD exclusive?

It wasn't with DVD. The PC had very little to do with DVD becoming so popular.

Why would PC's need HD-DVD's? They run apps from the HDD and support much higher resolutions than HDTV's.

Digital distribution will replace hard media word. No, because we focus more on digital data than hard disc media.

HD-DVD disc's are easier for the manufacturer to make it's just a upgrade to their current machinery, blue ray requires all new machines + theres a higher rate of faulty disc's.

Yea, we can. And the fact that two major PC makers are backing Blu-ray, will help sway this already proven format.

Digital game distribution is doing bad. For steam atleast. It will be along time before people can be convinced to spend the same amount of money for digital instead of the hard copy. People dont understand that its cheaper to make that DVD in the box then let milion of people dl that 5gb movie.

For gaming they haven't been mainstream until 2years ago when you could get all your games on cd or dvd, yes games have existed in both formats but the majority haven't supported both like they do now.

D2D and the service amazon offer are some of the biggest software distribution methods. Not sure about the overall grand scheme though.

There are plenty of people out there that dont have the conneciton speed to download 4GB plus. Most people in Australia dont have anything faster than 256K-512K ADSL.

Most companies were, however, releasing a CD version, and DVD version.

Thats atleast 10 years off. Youll never get some guy whos a 20 yo male, thats been palying games since the NES, and his idea of getting a game is to go to the store, get some game, collect these games, and even display them, to spend the same amount of money for a download able game that is the same price, without a box, or cd, and no way to display your collection. Steam is a great example of this, its not as successful as people think.

As far as gaming is concerned, I don't see anything more than a DVD disk being the standard for 10-15 years. What PC gamer hasn't had a game that wasn't atleast a couple disk? Hard drives are getting bigger and cheaper very quickly, and I dont think any hermit has ever complained about having four disk to install a game. Heck, all that extra space is just for cinematics anyways.

pcs will push blu ray since it holds more data and thats the main thing your care about on pcs, you just burn your vidoe files or what ever to the disk and hd lacks space compared to blu ray
