Could there be a new DK platformer for Wii?

What if one of the big "core" gamer titles from Nintendo to be announced at E3 turns out to be an all new 3D Donkey Kong platform game like Donkey Kong 64? The new game could be to the DK series as Super Mario Galaxy is to the Mario series. Innovating the series while also taking it back to its roots.

This could be huge, and it would be AWESOME!

I'm sure that even some people that aren't loyal Nintendo fans could be excited about this?

Unless they bring back Rare I highly doubt anything Nintendo tries will be good... unless they put their big teams (Mario, Zelda) on it.

Yeah, hopefully a big studio would develop it. Maybe the Tokyo studio that developed Super Mario Galaxy? Heh, they also developed DK Jungle Beat.

All those great oppertunities are created by uhm, making great new series. I hope they make yet another great series. The Wii is certainly a platform on which i could imagine a new nintendo series taking root.

It's actually an announced title.

It was one of the first titles to be announced for the Revolution, along with Smash Bros. Revolution and Katana (Red Steel).

Maybe it will build off Mario 128 like Pikmin and Super Mario Galaxy did.

Doesn't mean it's still being made. There were plenty of GCN games that were announced but never were made.

If you haven't played JungleBeat go find it and you'll have a new Dk platform game.

That's what I've been telling people for a while.

And I think gamespot took it off the site as well. I remember it being there as well, titled "Donkey Kong Revolution" .

I'm hoping that the "Secret e3 Title" will be Pikmin 3. Seriously, Pikmin 3 with Wii controls would've been perfect, it should've been a launch title, but it still hasn't been officially announced! Why?!? Pikmin 2 was undoubtedly in my mind the greatest game on the GameCube, and it deserves a sequel every bit as much as Nintendo's other franchises.

I really hope so. We haven't seen a DK platformer since DK64. the only one since then was Jungle Beat, but the gimmicky controls took the fun out of it.

They should, the original 3 DKC games and DK64 were some of the greatest platformers of all time.

No. The last DK platformer to be released was Jungle Beat, but you had to play with BONGOS. Look, Nintendo isn't going to make a lot of hardcore games, becuase all they're going to do is make a lot of casual games and accessories like Wii Fit, and allowy crap games to flood themselves, which will inevitably sink Nintendo into the Ocean of S***ness.

The first Donkey Kong game was made by Miyamoto in the 80's.

After that, Rare licensed the franchise and created the modern Donkey Kong.

Someone is cranky.

Jungle Beat was made by the same team that made Super Mario Galaxy. And they are dividing their budget for both casual and hardcore games. The thing is, the hardcore games are big budget games and the casual are low budget games. So you see a lot more of them while the hardcore ones appear once in a while. That's the reason Project HAMMER must have been cancelled.

A better way would be to spend more budget on hardcore, so it will balance out with the low budget ones.

Nintendo has a lot of great dev teams. They have some of the best management around, as well. If they did a full-fledged DK, I guarantee it wouldn't disappoint.

Man, nintendo really needs some new icons. i mean look at the facts; MP3, SMG, SSBB, LZTP, MK soon, they need to pick up anew before they start making diddy kong racing sequels or something

You mean new like Pikmen, Advanced Wars, Nintendogs, Brain Age, Animal Crossing, Eternal Darkness, and Giest all new last gen.

Going by past history it's clear Nintendo NEVER makes any new franchises.

It's possible, but I am hoping for Nintendo to really try with the FPS (not counting Metroid Prime) or RTS genres...both genres the WiiMote can potentially advance.

StarFox could be incredible with the WiiMote. Maybe gameplay similar to RogueSquadron combined with classic StarFox.

DK Country series, as ideal DK game, is really hard to accomplish in 3D. DK 64 was great, but that, Banjo, Conker, and Mario all had very similar gameplay. That said, I would love for Miyamoto (who has 0 projects to work on currently that we know of) to prove me wrong on this.
