I'm looking at the Wii's lineup for this year and while I like it with games like SMG, SSBB, MP3, and Super Paper Mario I don't think the general public is going to be satisfied with those. I mean, basically all of those series were also on GC and the public turned to the console will GTA, Madden, Burnout, MGS, FF etc.
I like the lineup enough to warrant a purchase when the console is cheaper but the public don't usually buy more than one console and Wii being cheaper than PS3 or 360 doesn't necessarily mean it will sell more overall. Perhaps I'm being too pessimistic about this but the main reason the GC failed was because it did not have enough major titles on the system, and that seems to be happening with the Wii too.
I think Wii's appeal with non gamers will only pull it so far. People are just going to go to the system which has the major series again.
I want to think differently but I'm seeing absolutely no evidence of major titles coming to Wii.
wii can turn out to be the next ps2 same with ps3 same with xbox 360 or 360 can turn out to be like the original xbox same with the ps3 same with the wii the three can turn out to be the game cubeÂ
What about Project HAMMER and Disaster Day of Crisis? or Godfather, Manhunt 2, and No More Heroes? (i dont plan on buying the last three)lVK1
I don't think those games will be bad (in fact, No More Heroes looks very interesting) but do you think the public will choose those games or will they go to the console with GTA/MGS/FF/GT or GTA/Halo etc?

imo, right now, Xbox360, PS3, and Wii have the potential to be 'winners' of the gen. Whoever is the 'loser' will lose by very little, everyone will be close in market share.

The Wii might not win the next gen wars, but it is already pretty much guaranteed to surpass the Cube. Heck, the Wii is going to probably reach half of the Cube's installed base in less then a year. The key being Japan, the US is going to be a close race between the PS3, the Xbox 360, and the Wii, but in Japan, Wii is going to win by far and that has huge ramifications, not as much as it used to have, but still huge, because so many of the biggest names in gaming are based in Japan, or are of Japanese origins (i.e. Capcom, Sega, Konami, Namco, Squaresoft, etc.).

How about we wait till the end of the year instead of posting doom and gloom threads every day? If anything, the Wii looks set to crush competition in sales, which is why anyone hoping for the Wii's failure would be better served waiting till Christmas.
The Wii already has Madden, and FF and MGS are about as interesting to the general public as Mario, Metroid and SSBM are. All Nintendo needs to do is play is smart and they will do very very well. Imagine how many Wii Sports they can pump out, and they will all be very very succesful. If they do things like that, and continue to put out more games to keep their hardcore crowd happy, they have a very strong chance of winning this gen.

Unlike the GC, the system is not a lot like the others. For this reason I think it will taking a little longer to see how far devs are willing to go. Nintendo seems to be going the right direction with 3rd party support and mass appeal of the Wii. I don't see why devs wouldn't want to develop those kinds of games on the Wii because they probably would sell and maybe a bit easier than on other consoles. Really though, still to early to tell where any console is going.

Why wouldn't it change? Grand Theft Auto became a big-time seller last gen, so what you think new hit big time sellers are going to cease to exist? There are probably games we never heard of that are going to be huge hit 3rd party sellers this generation, it happens every gen. Also, besides a couple of hit series like Final Fantasy and Mario Bros., most big-time series fail to continue their success at the same scale for multiple generations. For example there was a time when Sonic, Tomb Raider, and Mortal Kombat where huge sellers, now they aren't nearly as big. To assume that Grand Theft Auto is guaranteed without a doubt to be the biggest system-mover this generation is absurd. BTW, I like Grand Theft Auto, and I wish the Wii was getting the next installment, so it's not like I'm a Grand Theft Auto hater, but come on, you have to be realistic.
