Cows, this is what you have to do. (There is hope) (Long read + Game list)

First, I'm not a cow. I own a PS3 and Gaming PC, and I don't have any hatred against other consoles. The PS3/PC combo simply was the best option for me (I get to play most of the games I want). And most importantly, I don't want any games to flop.

When a PS3 game flops, it's because of you and only you. And because of you, the PS3 loses appeal. Let me show you how this affects me, the victim of all this hype :

PS3 loses appeal > PS3 loses popularity > Devs will ignore PS3 > Less games for me

If you never hyped Lair or HS, the PS3 would still look good today. I admit HS flopping was unpredictable, but I was always convinced that it wouldn't score AAA. As for Lair, it screamed floppage since the very first gameplay vid.

Now let's have a look at the PS3 vs. X360 situation in the future:

It's up to you to decide if you count games like UT3 or Alan Wake. Oh and GT5 Prologue shouldn't be listed in October (my error)

Now I dunno if you noticed, but PS3's future looks VERY GOOD. But if you hype the wrong stuff, it could be a disaster. Let's just have a quick overview of each month :

September :X360 definately wins here, no doubt. Lair and HS already flopped, and thet're against Halo 3 and Eternal Sonata.

October : Here you have PS3's killer feature/game/service : Home, along with Eye of Judgement, R&C, Folklore, Hot Shots Golf 5 (AAA by Famitsu) and the extremely popular, milion seller, Singstar (maybe not a game for you, but it'll help the PS3 alot). PS3 wins October.

November : It's Uncharted and Haze against Mass Effect. It's hard to determine the winner.

December : Nothing to see here. (GT5 Prologue is in TBA 2007 section)

2008 : This is pretty obvious. PS3 gets all of its BIG games and X360's best games are NG2 (may not be exclusive), Fable 2, Lost Oddyssey and Too Human. 2 RPGs and 2 action games. PS3 wins 2008 (as of right now).

Now let's talk hype. The PS3 killer. Of course, the best thing to do would be to say that every single PS3 games will fail, but Cows won't do that. If you want to hype, here are my suggestions :

The Eye of Judgement : Do NOT hype this game at all.

R&C ToD : Hype it AA

Folklore : Hype it A (or just don't hype it)

Hot Shots Golf 5 : Hype it AA

Singstar : Don't hype

Uncharted : Hype it AA

Haze : FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, don't hype it AAA. Hype AA

Time Crisis 4 : Don't hype

GT5 Prologue : I dunno if it will be reviewed and I don't know much about it. I dunno.

SOCOM : AA

Little Big Planet : This is a tricky one. Very tricky because we don't know how GS will review it. This game doesn't have a deep storyline and it's very simple. See what I mean? It may become the best game ever but get a AA on GS... I don't know what to do. I'd hype it as a AAA quality game, but no hype for the GS score.

MGS4 : This one can be hyped AAA

Infamous : We don't know enough about the game yet. Don't start the hype.

Killzone 2 : Do what you want, lol. It sure looks like an AMAZING game, but anything can happen :P . Personally, I THINK it could be an AAA game, but you know... Killzone.

FF13 : Wait for in game video. AND NO THAT VID FROM E3 2005 ISN'T GAMEPLAY. It's CG that represents gameplay.

FF VS 13 : We don't know enough. Same as FF13

GT5 : AAA

GoW3 : I'd say AAA, but we haven't seen the game yet, and I'm not evensure if it's announced

Tekken 6 : AA

J&D : Not now

Heavy Rain : no

Railfan : lol

Dynasty Warriors 6 : NO

Loco Roco PS3 : I dunno. AA I guess

..and the others : NO. NEVER

That's it. I hope you learned from your errors. But seriously I can't imagine people hyped Lair. When you look at gameplay vids, imagine you play the game, and imagine you play it for hours. one thing...

hot shot golf got a AAA from famutsu that doesn't mean it will get aa here. Blue dragon was AAA in famitsu as well as other japanese critics but scored 7.9 in ign and 6.0 in gamespot.

Here in SW, a flop is a game that didn't meet its hype according to GS. This is completely illogical (to use only GS), but that's the way it is...

AA that is. Game looks ridiculously good, well the teaser did. ;D Although I think HAZ should be hyped A at most, lots of things seem to be holding it back and let's face it - it isn't the best looking game around.

Seeing that exclusive game list really puts things in perspective for me.

If Iget a 360 I would play Halo 3 and maybe Mass Effect this year ...... then in 2008 and beyond NG2. I am sure Gear 2, LP2 , and DR 2 will get announced but that is about it for me.

If I get a ps3 I would play Uncharted , HS , Haze , Ratchet and Clank this year ....... and all kinds of games in 2008 and beyond on the ps3 side. MGS4 , God of War III , Resistance 2 , MGO , Socom and all kinds of promising looking games like Killzone , LBP , Infamous , L.A.Noire. I have my eye on Eight Days and Heavy Rain as well.

What I am hyping this year below.

• Uncharted - AA
• Ratchet and Clank - AA
• Heavenly Sword - AA (might flop under here but I am playing it)

I haven't decided on Haze yet. A-AA ? Dunno.

Great post...

Couple of comments to make, I for one, although I know a lot of lemmings will snort at this because a lot of them seem to think every owner of the PS3 hyped lair, I personally never saw much in it, apart from some nice looking CGI - heck i didn't even think the gameplay looked that great at all, contrary to a lot of people's beliefs...

Secondly - I WOULD NOT HYPE HAZE AT ALL - not one bit - NO WAY AA or whatever you said... First off lemmings have not got it on their console - its an exclusive to PS3... Now from the footage that I've seen, the dev walkthrough of that level, it just does not seem to promise anything we haven't seen before. I also saw a hecka lot of jaggies and rough textures, which yes I'm sure will have been cleaned up eventually. But the thing is, if we hype this game which the lemmings could potentially have had on their system and it flops - think of the humiliation... At the moment I don't think this has that much to offer AT ALL - but I would love to be eventually suprised...

How long until the release?? Is it this year?? I just can't see that much else being implemented, can anyone tell me whats so special about this game that is worth hyping??

In system wars a flop is a game that doesn't live up to it's hype. Be it AA hype or AAA hype. It doesn't matter whether or not you like it but that's how it is here.

Factor 5 doesnt give a damn if Lair gets 4.5's across if it sells 1 million copies

Well I don't think a game should be judged by how well it sells. Take Okami, for example. Seriously one of the best games ever made. It reminded me of OOT when I played it and it wasn't a cheap short game. But it didn't sell well.

And you know... it's not because McDonalds if so popular that it's the best food you can get
