It would appear that the MP section of Crackdown 3 will be available in 2016, with the rest (the SP campaign) having no concrete date.

http://www.gamespot.com/articles/crackdown-3-destruction-restricted-to-multiplayer-/1100-6429544/

Update: Microsoft has clarified that it's not the entirety of Crackdown 3 that will be available during summer 2016, as Dave Jones seemed to suggest. Instead, it's just multiplayer that will be playable in that window, according to a tweet. Whether that means a beta test or something else remains unclear, but we've followed up to find out more.

Original Story: Crackdown 3 impressed earlier this week with a demonstration of its fully destructible world, but that functionality will only be available in multiplayer.

That's according to Dave Jones, who revealed that the destruction's reliance on being connected to the cloud means it's a multiplayer-only feature in the Xbox One game. "Yes, [destruction is] exclusive to the multiplayer mode," Jones said when asked in an IGN interview. "You have to be online for multiplayer, and at that point we can connect to the cloud and really expand the experience."

That means you won't be toppling buildings in the single-player mode, both because you aren't connected to the cloud and because it doesn't make sense within the context of Crackdown.

"No, you can't [destroy buildings in single-player], and in some respects that goes against the grain of what Crackdown is," Jones said. "You're meant to be saving the city, so we really wanted to create a new multiplayer experience that bent that."

Crackdown has featured cooperative multiplayer before, but Crackdown 3 takes things further, at least by adding destruction. Beyond that, we don't know what form multiplayer will take; Jones and developer ReAgent aren't talking specifics just yet. Jones did say, "[I]t's a multiplayer experience that is more than just a simple deathmatch."

Crackdown 3--which will be called just that, despite Microsoft's previous suggestion otherwise--remains without a release date, but Jones narrowed it down to summer 2016. The game features an all-new city and more customization options, including the ability to play as a female agent.

------------

Could it just be a beta, and thus the full game only be available after 2016? Or a true staggered release (so, MP first and then the SP at a later date)? What say you, System Warriors?

They may as well just make this an online only game, Don't see the point in a solo mode.

You might need that obscure thing called the internet to take full advantage of this game. Damn. Oh wait I forgot it is 2015! I have internet. I can play this!!!

Microsofts 2016 line up is already staggering. A game like this is a must have regardless of mode.

Cows gonna cow.

Don't confuse this with Sony's digital DRM and how you need a connection to play your digital games.

I would rather have a offline mode than not being able to play a game at all.

I used to laugh at games being released incomplete, because of bugs and shit. But lately, they're literally releasing them in an incomplete state.

@Desmonic: that Internet fueled falling crackdown tower is gonna put an xone in my house.... Giddyup!

I'm so excited for the Internet memes too...

Xone with Internet = crackdown 3

Xone without Internet = some Atari 2600 game...

C'mon cows don't let us down!

But then, Sony will do the cloud thing and this tech will be LEGIT! some claiming Sony actually invented it...

Ahhh.... This gaming community of ours.....

Until gamescon I assumed this was an online only game. Personally I don't see the the point of a single player campaign in this game. Just give coop missions. Either way, game looks like it could be fun and I'll be checking it out whether it has single player or not.

I'm sorry but I always buy and play my games single player first before MP. That said, I'm not a fan of paying incomplete games, (looking at you the new Hitman game) so with that, I'll just wait until Crackdown 3 is 100% err 98.7% (nothing's never 100%) complete.

Man , lems got the best spin.

MS giving only the MP in 2016 /which is half , or even less then half the game/, and they say "good , we don't need SP".

Keep it up.

I don't know. They could always sheep it up, and go on about how awesome Microsoft is by giving away free DLC and keeping the content coming.

It's obvious that a lot of work has gone into making this happen and it looks like MS really want to push this cloud. So they probably put all of their resources into making the multiplayer component first. Since the single player won't have destruction (a design choice that makes sense) they can construct that component fairly quickly since they already have an engine.

The downside being that working with the cloud must be hard as hell. Which explains why we don't see many games using it. So unless MS simplifies the way the allow devs to use the cloud, we won't see a lot of this in future games.

Looks like a F2P game. Every f2p game has a gimmick to lure people in. Crackdown's gimmick happen to be the destruction from Red Faction.

Confirmed to be two games being developed independant of one another, one being crackdown online the other your standard crackdown outing with 4 player co-op.

I said in another post about this game. " if it wants to be successful there has to be an online only type single player that takes advantage of this tech!" I don't know if them releasing the MP component of this game first is to work that out for the single player side or if it will be offline at all and it shouldn't be. It should release and be considered an online only MP type game that is using an online only gaming experience. If you don't have Internet don't buy this fucking game. Don't hinder or hold back the game because a handful of people would complain about it being online only. Or advertise and put on the box you will not get the full experience playing this game offline!

Yup, plus the original actually scored decently. I never played the second, but it scored worse.
