Ah, here we go. Just remember that the DS users can without a single doubt now use the arguments that the PSP almost doesn't have any unique game worth getting. Considering the high scoring games such as Elite Beat Agents, Layton, Hotel Dusk.

I personally just got my hands on FF:CC and it's amazing on a handheld and a fantastic game for FFVII fans, though I still would have liked to play that kind of game on a console rather than on a bus or such.

I cannot disagree. I'm very impressed by the story and the characters, Kazushige Nojima have proven that he is a genious story-teller. I wonder what will blue dragon and lost odyssey story would of been like if nojima did the story.

The PSP also has games such as Locoroco(sp?) and Papaton as unique games. Also crisis core is not just a rehash of FF7, its battle system is very different and in general plays very differently from the main FF series. The only thing it borrow is part of the story which even then is not much.

For now. Apparently Kevin V liked it a lot more than Lost Odyssey. And Lost Odyssey was great!

I'd say on handheld its the best but if you add console and pc into the mix then there are many that outshine it quite easily.

So, they mean it is far better than Persona 3 too ?

Well, as they have said again and again, they review games according to the system they are on, so it could never compare to other systems anyway, no matter what they write, and they do say "one of the most", not "the most", meaning there are other as good games out there

DaveyDeathblade

Agreed.

But GameSpot said it was the best JRPG in years. No...they didn't even say that. They said it was ONE OF THE BEST (that means, among the best...top 5 perhaps). That means they're not saying it's better than any of the good WRPGs that have come out. I don't think they're that crazy.

I dont see how a simple little short Handheld Hack n Slash based game could be considered a difinity RPG ... considering its yet just another spin off 9.0 or not.

im not gonna say its the best rpg for this gen, i havent played all to judge that but there are people who will like it so much that they hold that thought. its not really a hack and slash btw, it looks like it but its not. also where did you get the idea that it was short and simple (easy yeah but not simple)

TBH I would agree with that statement...and that is even if CC is only a AA game.

Having said that it has nothing to do with the PSP or the quality of the game but more to do with the state that JRPG's are in atm which is quite abysmal. i.e. being exceptional really isn't that big a deal when everything else is barely worth mentioning.

*yawns* not this crap again...these genres aren't even similar enough in feel to be worth talking about contrastively. They long ago shared some common roots...that was like 15 years ago, please catch up.

i guess JRPG'S just aint as high quality as WRPG'S personaly (they are pretty simiar in beijng story heavy and character orientated)

i take yhatzee's opinion that games which are overly japanese shoot themselvs firmly in the foot. as LO proved so well JRPG'S seem to be looking back to the past way to much.

Well, that I can agree with. The JRPG has been for a long time in a state of stagnation. The WRPG on the other hand seems to be making some moves here and there. TBH it depends what you mean in quality, JRPGs traditionally have higher production values/better produced cutscenes and so on, whereas WRPG's don't even bother trying to make stable framerates. Then again in recent times the quality of gameplay/story has gotten better in the latter and not in the former.

These are observations about both genres but I do once again reiterate that putting them in direct contrast is a bit pointless.

but yeah, I agree. It seems to have set the standard for handheld RPGs and seems to be the best example so far of how to make a Final Fanatasy spinoff. Squareenix rawks

well im afraid we must agree to disagree, putting them in direct contrast realy shows what WRPG'S have over JRPGS and this might make the dev's shape up and ad some new ideas. whilst some WRPG'S may lack polish (in the the witchers case be to polish) at least they try something new.

You could do the same thing with action games like DMC/NG and adventure games like MP/Zelda (for the purposes of this argument those games belong to the genres I've listed). They have just enough thread in common to be contrasted, the same with adventure games and RPG's. That isn't to say that they should be mentioned as if they are more or less the same thing.

So are you saying its worthless to also make Ps3/360 game comparisions because both are different platforms? I think when regarding to RPG's on the PSP, alot of people expect it to be around the same calibur of the past PS2 rpg's and IMHO i think CC delivered. Also how many other rpgs have that stated is one of the best rpgs in many years? not many.
