Any thoughts?

Using Yahoo as "Critics", which you use in the plural rather than the more appropriate singular, is quite funny. Yahoo is the equivalent of a tabloid rag compared to the New York Times.
Thoughts? They like to grab attention. They've previoulsy been publishing articles that PS3 is on the way up and kicking ass. They said the 360 was on its way out. They flip flop more than a politician.

Did you even watch the entire video. It makes perfect sense, if the ps3 doesn't get a price cut soon its going to face a lot of problems.

No... just no.
FUNNY how Cows are always quoting YAHOO as a MAJOR Site that can be trusted, using them for figures and numbers here at PS3land(Cowspot).
Yahoo is so great and reliable, Cows are always saying.
Then Yahoo tells the world the PS3 is in Trouble, and all of the SUDDEN COWS don't cite YAHOO as reliable anymore!
COWS, you guys RULE SW, and they won't take kindly to YAHOO spoiling their day!

I'm pretty sure Sony knows more about there marketing strategy than some guys at Yahoo! or you for that matter where does it "Make perfect sense" Do you work for Sony? Do you know how much they are loosing per unit sold? How do you know a price drop wouldn't cause there stocks to slide instead of rise?

Why not? The 360's cheapest model is $199 while the ps3's cheapest is $399. That's a $200 dollar differnce, which is pretty big.
First off these "critics" are just two people without much credibility. Secondly, the PS3 was more expensive last year, had the weakest game lineup, and still outsold the 360 for the year.
Conclusion: PS3 = In good shape

Come on man, you and i both know that the Playstation name is stronger than Xbox, and thats why it outsold MS. What people who say that fail to mention, is the fact that they only outsold MS by 1.3mil i think it was??? It was "in good shape" then we would see a price cut to stay competitive, but thats not the case. Come on man, i own a PS3 as well, that doesnt mean we have to be blind to the PR bullS**t that sony spews. Do you know how much sony invested in the PS3?? Do you know that they have obligations to not only investors, but to Blu-ray partners?? and that they cant drop the price too low because it would hinder sales of stand-alone players?? Its much complicated than you realize. Had sony focused on GAMING, and not MOVIES, they would be "in good shape"
That's pretty rich considering how poorly run Sony is.I'm pretty sure Sony knows more about there marketing strategy than some guys at Yahoo! or you for that matter where does it "Make perfect sense" Do you work for Sony? For those who don't do their research, they are probably going to grab the Xbox360.
For those who use logic before purchase would look at the most expensive version of the Xbox360, and wonder why it is more expensive than the PS3. If the same person uses their logic even further, (reads all the features, asks a few people around the electronics area, ask a few teens on their opinion, you know, the works) they might reach for the PS3.
Anyone who really does their research, would probably reach for a PS3.
Just my conclusions based on my friends habits.

I assume they poorly ran there way to market dominance last gen, and are holding up very well in the face of such adversity?

Yes. The arcade model is a piece of crap. No educated consumer would buy it. Since when has hardware thats cheaper, ever been better?
I think Sony will do good, as long as they don't do anything stupid.dream431ca

Poorly run? Yes, they mst be. How else could they dominate two generations in unprecedented fashion. How else could hey outsell a cheaper console with mor games. How else could they have products that have infiltrated virtually every electronic arena and become a force to be rekoned with? Poorly run indeed.

Exactly, since most of the public doesn't know much about video games they probably only look at the cheapest or most appealing console. Come this Xmas, when a nongamer or casual walks into a store he sees three prices $200, $250, and $400. If he didn't do enough research (which most people don't do) he would probably pick the cheapest console (360) or the one that appeals most to non gamers (Wii).

However, I have a feeling that people will do more research come this holiday season.
With the fears of the recession getting worse, people will probably put more effort in to getting the most bang for their buck.
However, they could just get whatever their kid asks for instead.
Its gonna be really hard to predict this holiday season.
saying sony is in big trouble makes you look like an idiot. i mean we don't know the effect of the price drop. of course sales are going to be high but will it be high next month or the month after. yahoo is just getting rating but its kind of obvious that they don't know what there talking about. if your going to say the ps3 is in trouble give some proof or at least wait until npd.sireclaborn
Woah, cool your jets.
I don't believe that anyone said the PS3 was in trouble here, it just looks like it might reach a pickle in the near future.
Its true, we don't know the effect of the price drop, and we won't know for a while.
We all know that Playback says what they want to say. They don't have very much credibility.

But you have to remember, those games only benefit me, you, and the other current PS3 owners. and this holiday with the economy the way it is, $400 is a serious barrier between people and those games. and thats what matters to the investors is consoles sold, not how many games are out for the system. The article didnt say that sony lacked games, it just said they were put in a position where they had to choose between marketshare, and profitability. So its not whether they NEED a price cut, they simply cant afford it without losing more money, and angering blu-ray investors because the PS3 would be hindering stand-alone player sales. I dont think they are in trouble per se, just lack of options maybe.
Just because a company is poorly ran doesn't mean it must be unsuccessful. As the saying goes, "even a blind squirrel can find a nut." That's super that Sony has done so well in the past, but things aren't exactly rosy right now. They're stuck on the wrong side of the content war(s) (Blu-Ray vs DD, Sony BMG, whatever the hell happened to the Walkman brand, etc.), their execs (particularly at SCEI/SCEA) have proven time and again to be a collection of total asshats, and they have a nasty habit of acting with total disdain for the consumer (various PS3-related quotes, the whale-sized bloatware on Viao products, and chiefly the rootkit fiasco). If you can look at Sony and honestly say to yourself "boy, there's a well run company I would love to support" you should book an appointment with a psychologist ASAP.Poorly run? Yes, they mst be. How else could they dominate two generations in unprecedented fashion. How else could hey outsell a cheaper console with mor games.
