Again, why do you guys feel the need to make this out to be something negative.

Why can't you just say "that's cool" or something or even "awesome, now I can talk shit to guys on Xbox"... I mean come on man...

Didn't say it was negative. But I don't believe this feature would exist if they weren't getting their ass kicked in sales and losing games like FF XIV and SFV and getting late ports of Rocket League because of being so stubborn about not allowing it in the past.

I hope to see every third party multiplayer game take advantage of this feature in the future. There is no logical reason to divide the communities of multiplatform titles anymore. Although there should be an exception for PC players for competitive shooters because controller vs kb and mouse will never work.

You're throwing out a negative connotation towards them for this regardless, it falls under the damned if you do and damned if you don't line of thinking, just appreciate it without the snide remarks, this is something good for everyone.

Isn't Final Fantasy XIV a Windows only game and I thought Sony money hatted Street Fighter V?

I hope to see everyone together also, but for shooters, PC needs to stick to PC, like you said KB/M is way too large of an advantage.

It's system wars, not the official xbox forums.

XIV is on PS4, PS3, Windows. It's not on X1 because M$ didn't want to allow cross platform play with PlayStation users. One of the big reasons Sony was able to lock up SFV was with the promise of allowing cross play with PC players to not split the community up.

Really? Cause according to cows and almost everyone else, Sony got SFV because they helped fund the development of the game period. I mean you trying to imply MS was going to cut cross play with PC?

@mems_1224: sony actually said they were up to it years ago. With elder scrolls online being the most recent. I could go hard a find the gs article itself but f it.

Ms just tryna put a slick spin as usual. Nonetheless its a great feature if you dont care about the Xboxes future lol

The next xbox will now only be worty if the system is way better rather than a mixture of flagship tittles and a quality system. Its lossing the bag of exclusives feel the 360 and og atleast had to a degree.

Sony did help fund SFV but part of the reason Capcom made the deal with Sony and not Microsoft in the first place is because Sony was open to cross play while Microsoft wasn't.

Why should PC stick to PC for shooters? You can play many fps on the PC with a controller. While the majority of PC gamers are playing with the M/K there are some who are playing with a controller. Its strange that the only people who i have seen wanting this separation are PC gamers. Also using a mouse and keyboard does not make you automatically good, in addition to that most kills in FPS games are opportunistic kills.

I can tell you this right now, people who play with me in M/KB games are already unhappy, I destroy normal people and ruin games for them, imagine people with a controller.

It's not even remotely fair, M/KB is a drastically superior input method.

That changes nothing. If someone wants to play against another person with a mouse and keyboard so beit. The reasoning for not having the option is nonsensical especially when its coming from the folks who has the "advantage".

No it's not, it would ruin games for everyone who tried it, it's a vastly inferior control method and serves no purpose but negative.

No it would not. It is your OPINION that it will and that is fine but such a feature should be the decision of the gamer. Most kills in online FPS are opportunistic and the controller is not "vastly" inferior in FPS games. If you don't want to play with someone on a controller, that fine but that should only apply to your gaming experience and not others.

Exactly. Which is something Microsoft has been against up until now. PS4 and Xbone owners would already be playing games like FFXIV together if it wasn't for Microsoft's dumb policies they made when they thought they would be on top this gen.

That is not entirely true. MS initiated crossplay in their failed GFWL with Shadowrun and they jump ship. All of these features that MS is currently implementing was supposed to be a standard for Xbox and PC about a decade ago but they had monkeys running the company.

No, this is words from some casual who thinks he knows it all, it would completely ruin the game for people with controllers, they would be dragging the bottom of the barrel in absolutely everything.

I'm talking about this gen. If we're talking about previous gens then the Dreamcast had cross play before anyone else.

If this happens frequently, it means third party devs would entertain making games like Crackdown which utilizes the cloud. I can see Sony going against it for that very reason. Let's see who's truly for the gamers.

I believe this gen started with Steve Ballmer as the CEO and he was just a cancer to the company and I would not be remotely surprise if that was their initial stance. Ever since the proposal of Windows 10 and the change in leadership, MS is finally doing what they were supposed to be doing many years ago. Fortunately, the new direction and long term plan of Window 10 is allowing this. I am waiting for a full blown merging of PC and Xbox where there is no exclusivity between the two platforms both for software and networking features.

I don't see Sony going against this. Sony is already taking steps towards a more service based platform. MS and Sony are aiming for non hardware specific platform for a variety of applications.

Stop being silly. Calling me a casual on a site in which dedicated gamers converse is moronic. You think it should be separate and I saying that it should not and that GAMERS should decide if they want to or not. Such a simple concept that I think you are fully capable of understanding.

Incredible. This is what i want in every competitive game that doesn't require a mouse and keyboard. How amazing would that be if Dark Souls 3 supported cross play between the three? omfg!!

FFXI was previously cross-platform between PS2 X360 and PC. But the closed network policy really started back on the original Xbox. Originally EA wouldn't support Live because MS wouldn't allow publishers to use their own servers with Xbox Live, everything ran on Microsofts network. This is just the final barrier from that original vision.

@R4gn4r0k:

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think cross-play works like that. I don't believe there is any way to send a game invite to a friend on another platform.

I think cross-play just helps extend the life of a game by increasing the pool of players to match with.

Xbox/Win10 exclusives could do this though.

Yeah, you still have all these different services, so sending a friend invite could be hard.

But I just want a future where in stuff like that can work. I don't see a reason why PC/Playstation/xbox/Nintendo should all be closed off.

Doubt Dark Souls III will have cross play, correct me if I'm wrong but none of the previous versions had cross play with PC and that was always allowed on PS4, and even on PC the different versions of the same game are not cross play.

FROM is delaying the game 1 month from Japan, wich could mean the PC version is sh*t again.

You really want then to try this new thing?

Sony has been allowing crossplay for years. This has been hindering games on xbox consoles for years.

Paragon by Epic Games has been development for only PC/PS4 for the sole reason that MS refused to allow players to play with ps4/pc. Sony has always allowed it.

If you think Sony will change their stance over servers, then you are mistaken. A large portion of third party devs host their own servers which sony just allows access to. If a developer decides to lease azure servers (instead of using their own servers), all they would have to do is the same thing with their server space..

MS should have done crossserver a decade ago. The reason is because of games like rocket league putting pressure. This stance wasn't magically changed for the gamers. I hope Epic games start developing games on xbox again. It is ridiculous that MS flat out said no to them.

I agree.

If you really want to see the huge difference in ethics between MS and SONY, you only need to study how they've acted during times of difficulty and times of success.

Normally, corporations abuse their power during times of success and act more consumer-friendly during times of distress.

Look at MS. When they were at the top last gen, they hiked online play fee, refused to use dedicated servers, refused to invest in exclusives, closed off their network, and did many other anti-consumer acts.

Now looking at SONY's history, they've almost always acted in the consumers' interest regardless of how well or bad they've been doing. SONY opened up their network last-gen and now when they're stronger than ever, did they close-off their network to competitors to retain their population advantage? Nope. SONY is still keeping their network open.

During the PS2 era where SONY was killing Nintendo and MS, did SONY just give up on 1st party exclusives? Nope. SONY kept investing and pumping out quality titles. Even this gen, they've been investing in The Last Guardian and won't cancel it because it would hurt the fans. SONY can just easily say, "Fk it, not worth it" and cancel The Last Guardian or just release a half-assed game without much hassle, but they try to keep their promise of a quality game even after 10 YEARS.

Now you lemmings might counter with "$600!!! TEH CELL!!! BLAH BLAH BLAH", but even those screw-ups were inspired by pro-consumer sentiments. SONY was giving you state-of-the-art technology for cheaper than market price. The CELL failed to live up to their expectations, but SONY did it because they really thought it would bring a computing revolution. Even SONY's mess-ups come from wanting to do good.

Do any of you lems really think MS, considering their greedy history, will keep their network open if they somehow were on top again? Hell no. It'll be back to business. The only reason why they're opening up their network now is because Xbox LIVE is nearly dead and they're afraid the remaining subscribers will leave to PlayStation. Low player base doesn't inspire confidence about a network's longevity.

Low player base doesn't inspire confidence about a network's longevity.

blah blah blah

all i hear is a cow suck off

Do you really believe what you just wrote because if you do then that is scary.

@ten_pints: The Xbox360 was doing cross platform play with the PlayStation almost ten years ago with FFXI.

I can only imagine the new competitive teams that will form in a game like RL because of this. Xbox vs PS4 teams. On a side note, I wonder if voice chat will be possible between PS4 and XOne players, I'm sure this would allow for some interesting scenarios, System wars style.

I'm curious if the Xbox One exclusive vehicles carry over so that PC and PS4 players can see the Warthog and Armadillo, I would buy it on Xbox One just for that and to talk shit haha.
