Blue dragon is quite clearly turn-based.

- different gameplay mechanics

justwith the firstthree reasons aloneeach and every final fantasyis different(X and X-2 are aslight exception butstill the gameplay and set of characters do noticeably differ)

kingdom hearts could have been called final fantasy if you removed the disney aspect but then there was the desire not to make it turn based like blue dragon. FF X - 2 had a very very different battle system to X which was sort of more realtime.

XIII and XIII versus will be vastly different from all other ff's primarily because of their battle systems. As i said before nomura wants versus to be like kingdom hearts on steroids (i'm expecting to play like ZOne of the enders) and please with XIII just watch the teaser and read an interview, there is so much on this already on the interweb

I think they're trying to expand what types of games they have on the system, and trying to break into the Japanese market, so I wouldn't be surprised.
