Crysis 1 "mediocre"?

Why do i keep hearing from various reviews of crysis 2 that crysis 1 was a "mediocre campaign" that was just "pretty to look at"? I've heard this many times.

am I the only one that found it to be FANTASTIC full of tons of different options and exciting gameplay?

what do you make of the reviewers who make these claims?

done. strangely enough, i found crysis 2's campaign to be more enjoyable.

It was great, i found it to be the best sp fps this gen. Quite a bit better than crysis 2 also.

I love Crysis 1. I think it is one of the best FPS games since 2005. It is easily in my top 10 FPS of all time. Crysis 2 was also a great game, but not as good as Crysis 1. People have opinions, ans there will always be differing ones. Sucks for them that they didn't enjoy Crysis 1, 2, or either.

Half the Reviewers out there are as clueless as the people reading the reviews. And that's just bottom line fact. Anyone who says Crysis 1 is a "medicore" shooter in terms of gameplay, shouldn't be reviewing First person shooters.

i just get reeeeally annoyed when i hear people call it a mere "graphics showcase"

Crysis 1 is one of the greatest FPS ever....

Crysis 1 has better gameplay, but Crysis 2 has a better campaign imo.

i just mean that even when crysis 1 came out, no one said it was simply a GRAPHICS showcase... the game had a lot to offer gameplay wise. yet so many crysis 2 reviews look back on the first as exactly that: a "showcase" with no gameplay to show afterwards... strange.

Yep, a corridor third person shooter that has "platforming" which consist of pressing a button and watching a cutscene.

Because a lot of people apparently are too boring to use their creativity and play Crysis like any linear shooter.

I'm not a fan of FPS games. But Crysis was one of the few exceptions. Most FPS games I've played are corridor shooters and only a few excelled in my eyes (like Chronicles of Riddick, Killzone 2). Crysis blew me away with its freedom. And the single player campaign was perfect in length. Most FPS games DRAG on forever but Crysis ended just before I felt bored. That alone made me go through the game 5+ times with each playthrough being better than the previous :)

I don't care what the reviews (or what anyone for that matter...) say, Crysis had a great campaign. And couple that with some kick ass mods and maps, you get a great campaign :D

Uncharted2 was good. But also definitely over-rated. I mean 96 metacrtic? come on... That's absurd. Why should it deserve such a score, for graphics? Because the gameplay certainly wasn't 9.6 material. It's funny how games llike Demon's Souls, a genuinely impressive and innovative game gets 89 meta, but Uncharted2 gets 96.

Crysis 1 is amazing, I just finished it and now am playing Warhead which is fantastic also. I had much more fun playing these than Crysis 2. So much better in every way.

Lol no...i couldnt even complete uncharted 2...i really do not understand the hype about this game! Its cinematic yea...but its gameplay is absolutely nothing special, passible shooting and passible platforming! Wow.... ^^ Crysis is easily the superior game!

Crysis had one of the best campaigns I've ever played in a FPS. The only level that is not a complete blast to play is Core, the one where you are inside the awakened mountain, not because it's bad but because you're too busy looking at the breathtaking environment.

The problem is that most gamers now a days think that if it doesn't have 10,000 scripted cutscenes, and 10,000 explosions going all around you and it's not a completley linear, corridor experience, then it's "mediocre".

It's just a completley different tyle of shooter than they are used to. It's a sandbox shooter,a nd it's as fun as you want to make it. You have an island to explore and an objective to complete. No one holds your hand, no one tells you were to go. You chose your own path, you engage the nemy as you see fit.

It's the best kind of gameplay, IMHO.

And Crysis is an exclusive on PC. Of course it would have the better engine. Still doesnt change my mind about how meh it is.
