So crysis 2 is a fail is many PC gamers eyes graphically. But what is its biggest problem? Whats makes it seem ugly to you? I think its just the blur personally, at 1080p it seems like its at 720p or lower. The game has blur at a stand still, object blurring, motion blurring, view distance blur, aliasing blurring. I mean KZ2 had alot of blur but jesus christ atleast it benefited the game.

The Crysis 2 screen is highly compressed, and you can tweak it to get rid of much of the blur. But yes the demo doesn't look as sharp or crisp as you get the original game to look. Hopefully that will change in the full release.

I didn't buy a 1920x1200 screen to look at fuzzy image quality, let's put it that way.

Should I ever get the game, I'm grabbing the latest unofficial tweaking software; and turning it down.

i'm sure that is what alot of PC owners plan on doing once the game is released.

I think it looks fine. Some people just expected more, considering the first Crysis.

I'm not sympathetic to all the whining about it though. People really place too much emphasis on the graphics considering the majority of complaints I've heard are pretty much only about how it looks.

Well, here you go then:

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

All they had to do was remove the physics and somewhat interactive enviroment to achieve this!

At least vaulting over stuff is pretty cool. I''m a big fan of having your first person character animated.

Edit Oh yeah, I found this post somewhere:

Create a shortcut for the Crysis 2 Demo exe file.

Right click>properties and then add them at the end of the target box line with an empty space before each command

+g_skipintro 1 (skips all the intros before the game boots up)
+r_glow 0 (removes the glow effect)
+i_mouse_smooth=0 (disables mouse smoothing)
+r_MotionBlur=0 (disables motion blur)

+cl_fov 60
+r_DrawNearFoV = 60
+pl_movement.power_sprint_targetFov = 60
(These three changes the Field of View and all three of them have to be changed to avoid getting "seasick")

If you want to get rid of the overall blur (which is caused by the game's built in AA method) lower the graphics from Hardcore to Advanced and add your own AA trough the drivers (not sure if all modes work but they say the AMD exclusive XEQAA method at least does.)

Also if you want to change the aim/iron sights to toggle you can do that once you're in game by going to the settings and then "game".

No idea if it helps since I have'nt not used those settings.

Editedit:

Now I don't have Crysis installed at the moment and I only have forum friendly screenshots but......

Photobucket

That demo better be a direct console port locked in all kinds of ways because as of right now, Crysis 1 does in fact look better.

Also, what's up with POM? The C2 demo sports some rather flat not to mention low res textures.

I doubt Crytek will ship the final game without the ability to change the AA settings. If they don't allow it, then I will rage... :x But I used a tweak and it improved the image quality alot. The OMB is still terrible compared to the original (for some wierd reason), and there appears to be a grain effect going on, but I personally think it looks great. The SSAO is stunning though.

I never said anything bad the graphics other then the blur which is obviously way over the top. What's the point playing a game at a high res to have a crisp clean image quality. Then looking a blur fest hiding all the detail. That's just like saying its fine to have 1080p blu-ray playing at a VHS resolution...

So you're comparing a MP demo of Crysis 2 in DX9 settings with locked specs to modded Crysis singleplayer? :| Crysis 2s SP vanilla looks comparable to modded Crysis, so imagine Crysis 2 completely modded out with texture mod, ect.

This. You can tweak the Crysis 2 demo. It's very simple and easy, anyone can do. With the tweaks, Crysis 2 demo looks so much better. Don't mean to offend, but this thread is a bit irrelevant considering the tweak came out for several days now. Hopefully, this only spreads the word.

In MP all you see is grey, red, yellow, orange, green and blue. Because everything you do is with nano vision.

Wish they would remove stealth and nano vision... So I can enjoy the game for it's graphics.

It's blatantly obvious they added all the blur because of all the dumbing down they had to go through to make the game "look descent" on the consoles.

+cl_fov=90 +r_DrawNearFoV=90 +pl_movement.power_sprint_targetFov=90 +r_MotionBlur=0 +g_skipIntro=1 +i_mouse_smooth 0 That's what I use. Works great, makes speed feel a lot faster = fun.

Yes I am. It's the same company that made both and they managed to do a somewhat proper demo for Crysis 1 so why does it look like a console multiplat this time? It's not just textures and resolution, it's the static enviroments and lack of physics that I find so hard to ignore.

Crysis 2 does'nt seem to have this:

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

Neither does Metro 2033 for that matter. I can't understand how anyone could play both games and think Metro looked better but that's off topic...

And my Crysis may be modded but the textures are vanilla. Well, except the foliage..... Vanilla foliage, especially grass, does'nt appreciate you getting in it's face.

Edit: Excuse the inconsistency between these Crysis images and the others.. I've use a variety of different mods to achieve what I found to be the best result.

hint: Vanilla Crysis, with Silent's HD texture pack, the POM/AF mod and a custom autexec is your best bet.

Editedit: As of right now, I'm downloading the Crysis 1 demo. Stay tuned for screenshots.

I'm sure he did. On topic, I didn't really notice the "blur" until people starting pointing it out. It's there, but it's subtle. Like I said, bloom plays a part but all of it can be tweaked.

It's a beta test... it's not even a demo. You guys are out of your minds if you think the retail PC version is going to have 3 graphical settings which cannot be adjusted, this much blur, and locked/encrypted config files. My concerns are the gameplay... mainly this whole "energy" thing. I don't get it. Using armor seems to do nothing at all, there's no health bar, and no gun is seemingly more powerful than the other, even the pistol... though I'm sure when all the guns are unlocked we'll be able to notice a difference. Hopefully they tweak the accuracy and power of each gun to have more variety, or rather, realism. Also, wtf is up with this hold for zoom/aim? What a joke. And "air stomp" does absolutely nothing at the moment. Better fix that. Right now, the multiplayer of this game is like Call of Duty 4 and Halo 3 took a dump, and Crysis 2 ate it.

Who Really knows actually.. More and more time goes by, more it could possible be like that. I game already has that Dx9 multiplatform going for it. Its starting to establish they goign with the candy cake over on visuals when it comes to Pc and dx 11.

That article says nothing, except that directx 11 is coming. And I know actually, because there would be a riot and a boycott petition if they released a PC game with this much "visuals" history... with no real way to adjust the visuals.

I honestly think this "demo"is a beta test, or rather, practical joke from crytek. They're using it as an open beta to test the servers, code, tweak maps, tweak some gameplay stuff... and that's it. Why everyone expected a "multiplayer demo" to be the entire game, or even have half of the crap people are whining about, is beyond me.

Just wait. It's gonna be gnar gnar.

The article probes that whole feeling on graphic options and how meh the makers are talking about the light option approach on the demo. Everyone hopes they will do the right thing but I have my doubts.

The problem so far on crysis 2 with whats been released out in the wild is we have seen when a developer takes that "candy coat" approach of dx9 to dx11 and we have seen when a developer actually utilizes infastructure correctly.. Seems Crysis 2 will be the pure candy coat style that might not be really what the game could have been. I don't really care for crysis at all but it is pretty lolfest to see low FOV, low Draw distnace, use of head bobbing, "press start to begin" etc so far. Definitely doesn't bold well for the Pc side of things. Hopefully the game will have 20+ hrs of single player gameplay(excluding CGI movies) and a great AI.. Sadly, I don't think it will. Who knows, crytek might surprise everyone on that end.

Why is everyone crying about Crysis 2's visuals???? I thought Crysis was more than just eye-candy... thats what everyone kept telling me anyways.

Now I'm no fan of Crysis... but people need to stop their bellyaching over C2's visuals... if you really believed that Crysis was soooo much more than graphics, then why aren't you excited about the gameplay tweeks and over-looking the "problems" with the visuals??? hmmmmm?????

All of these threads just confirm that everyone knows Crysis was nothing but a pretty tech demo....

Also... how about waiting til the FULL GAME is out and we see it running on some peoples machines maxed, b4 we bash it...hmmm....?

I only played Crysis 1 because I used it as a benchmark for my PC.... Crysis 2 looks like it might actually be fun to play, moreso than the 1st at least.

Create a shortcut for the Crysis 2 Demo exe file.

Right click>properties and then add them at the end of the target box line with an empty space before each command

+g_skipintro 1 (skips all the intros before the game boots up)
+r_glow 0 (removes the glow effect)
+i_mouse_smooth=0 (disables mouse smoothing)
+r_MotionBlur=0 (disables motion blur)

+cl_fov 60
+r_DrawNearFoV = 60
+pl_movement.power_sprint_targetFov = 60
(These three changes the Field of View and all three of them have to be changed to avoid getting "seasick")

Filthybastrd

Game looks/plays better after using some of those changes. Though I'm still stuck with the edge detect AA, it seems ridiculous to reduce ALL graphical settings to medium; just to disable their crappy AA. Just shows how inflexible these single graphical options are, they should really change them before release.

Subtle isn't the word I would use. Crytek overdid the motion blur to the point the game's almost nauseating to play. Definitely turning it off when I play the SP, though I hope they have an in-game option rather than this 'gamer', 'hardcore' nonsense.

I would recommend using the tweaks. Turns Blur and Bloom to "0." It also fixes the FOV in general and FOV sprint. Makes sprinting look and feel more natural and smoother. I highly recommend using the tweak and give the demo a try again. But to me, Crysis has always been about the single-player. Perhaps, they should have release a brief SP-demo. But it looks like the damage has been done. We can only wait now for the final game. :P

Create a shortcut for the Crysis 2 Demo exe file.

Right click>properties and then add them at the end of the target box line with an empty space before each command

+g_skipintro 1 (skips all the intros before the game boots up)
+r_glow 0 (removes the glow effect)
+i_mouse_smooth=0 (disables mouse smoothing)
+r_MotionBlur=0 (disables motion blur)

+cl_fov 60
+r_DrawNearFoV = 60
+pl_movement.power_sprint_targetFov = 60
(These three changes the Field of View and all three of them have to be changed to avoid getting "seasick")

Game looks/plays better after using some of those changes. Though I'm still stuck with the edge detect AA, it seems ridiculous to reduce ALL graphical settings to medium; just to disable their crappy AA. Just shows how inflexible these single graphical options are, they should really change them before release.

It seems like the Crysis 2 PC demo was a copy_paste job so I don't think the majority of the settings could have been tweaked to begin with. Just a few like the ones you see above. I'm sure Crysis 2, when it releases will have more options, if not patched right away. I know it should ship with the game, but I'll take it.

Use the +r_postmsaa=0 command for that and apply SSAA or XEQAA trough the drivers. :)

This is insane, fixing graphics, has it really come down to this? I know that's a good thing, but the fact it's required to solve problems like this makes me wonder what the devs did with this demo.

BTW, I have no problems with the way it is.

It's not working for me I'm afraid. Even with that, there is some sort of jagged edge reduction going on.

It's not even about using normal AA for me, it's getting rid of the blurring effect of this edge detect method, I can handle jaggies at my res.
