Crysis 3 creative director on sandbox versus 'Michael Bay moments'

hopefully crytek experience with Crysis 1 on consoles means it, a long with their more promised PC support

Find the right balance? We'll see about that. I get the feeling this is still going to be another glorified corridor shooter.

I have a feeling it's going to be a good mix. I'm happy to see them calling Crysis 2 linear. If they would keep sticking to their guns about it being an "urban jungle" like they were before the game released, I would be more worried. The fact that they admit Crysis 2 was linear is a good step in the right direction.

Crysis 2 was really hurt by an unfinished engine and being forced multiplat. Now that the engine is much more mature, I'm sure they'll be able to do a lot more things they probably wanted to in Crysis 2.

Crysis 2 always felt like it could have been a lot more. The scale was there, they just didn't execute.

It's a great point, and I can assume it's going to be incredibly hard to find a balance. They kinda jumped from one extreme to another with Crysis 1 and 2.

Them admitting Crysis 2 was linear is nice and makes me hopeful, especially since they promise it won't be like that.

I always felt that Crysis was both extremes in and of itself. You have the first few levels were quite open in comparison to the middle and end section which were, essentially, on rails. Plus, in terms of open-ness, Crytek's debut Far Cry took a dump on Crysis. Each level in Crysis was a mere section of an island. In Far Cry the levels WERE islands.

With Crysis, I thought to myself that they needed to go one direction or the other because they weren't caopable of both. I still don't believe they're capable of both. I'd like to be wrong, because that means I'd have another game to buy! :P

Good point. The first Crysis was a lot like a funnel in terms of level design. Far Cry was beast, I so miss that game :(

Well, I hope you're wrong :P Still, i'd rather err on the side of caution and assume they're not gonna get it right.

Miss games like quake 2 single player when u start the level u have a tablet u can use to see the objective of the level, but the game doesnt tell you where to go and theres no maps.GPUISBLURRY

I like how they acknowledge the fact that Crysis 2 was a linear shooter but I have a feeling we'll never see the big open level design like in Crysis 1 again.:(
