So I finally beat Far Cry last night and I got to admit the level design was very bad. I am glad I got it free because I wouldn't pay $5 for that game. The enemies were bad too. I can't believe hermits say Halo and Halo 2 has bad level design after playing Far Cry.So unless Crytek has learned from their mistakes from Far Cry I can say Crysis isn't going to be any better in level design. Also I hope there isn't any jumping Aliens in Crysis.

The underground levels were bad, but all the open jungle ones were great ... which nobody has disagreed with out of the far cry fans.

And jsut by looking at Crysis you can tell the shear difference between the 2 games level designs and AI.

The PC original is far better than any console version. And the PC game is superb in its design and scope.

My favorite Halo lvl eva!

And regarding Crysis, unless the island is unfinished, I don't see how it could be "poor" level design.

I thought that was the revolutionary part of the game though. The scale and thus the freedom of movement was unlike anything we had seen before. I thought the level design was great.agentfred

that recent 1up preview said that the crysis level they played was by far the biggest and most open level they had ever seen in a video game.

Which allows for greater gameplay variety and freedom. Leaving the choice of how to play the game up to the player rather than funneling them down a certain path is the best form of level design if you ask me. Of all the things to complain about Crysis, why was level design picked? That's one of it's strongest points aside from graphics in my opinion.

So that means you are going to need at least 2gigs of Ram to play Crysis maybe even more. :o I bet 360 could do about at least half of that level.

Excuse me, but I don't think I understand. You claim 2 gigs are needed to run it, but half a gig can do half of it? Perhaps it isn't linear progression, but I still don't think that math works out.

I think Far Cry and Halo 1 share some similarities. I thought both were excellent whilst they were outdoors (although Far Cry offered more freedom) and it was just Marines vs. the Covenant/ Jack vs. the Mercenaries. As soon as the third wheels were introduced (the flood and the Crygens) and the levels moved towards being based indoors both games became repetitive, mediocre, run of the mill FPS.

From what I understand Crysis will be based outdoors the majority of the time (which was Far Cry's strength imo) and the indoor alien portions of the game are unlike other corridor FPS.

I can't speak for Halo 2, but the original Halo's level design was lame, just plain lazily done.

One of the reasons I think its merely a solid game, not a great game.

Consoles can free up more ram because they don't use a big OS taking up resources. Consoles use less Ram then the PC does. So 512mb of Ram in the 360 is like 1.5gigs of Ram in a PC.

they do use less ram, but the pc ram is much faster, so i cant say that 512mb=1.5 on a pc its probly not true id risk sayng it that 512mb=700-800mb(since my xp consumes about 300mb), also depending on the os your on it consumes less RAM.

Most of the level design in far cry is good but when the triggens come in it is pretty bad. Also the game is incredibly challenging and sometimes frustrating... you don't even get a small advantage against your enemies ( in crysis you get the nanosuit)

Oh, ok, thats where you got that. Anyway, Vista is the most demanding OS out there, and it uses at most half a gig of ram. It usually isn't even that signifigant, and as someone said previously, you only really need 1 gig to run it fine.

I like Far Cry level design. The maps are really open, wide and they're not linear so there are mutiple paths you can choose to get something done.

It doesn't affect your peformance in games. Idle my ram is at 51% but I believe that is due to superfetch. 1gig could probably run the game ok but anybody should have 2gigs by now, you can get RAM super cheap these days.

I'm sure 512mb 360 does not= 1.5gig ram on the PC. If that was true why would Cavet Yerli talk about console ram holding Crysis back from being ported? I think he knows more about the capabilities of consoles more than you.

Surprisingly, I agree. I loved the first few levels of Far Cry: they were wide open, fun to play and exciting. After they introduced the Trigens, I got about half way through the game before I just stopped playing. It just wasn't fun anymore.

Sure, Instincts didn't have nearly as open of environments, but it had a better story, (wayyyy) better voice acting, and more exciting gameplay IMO. Unless the game gets like unbelievable amazing after the 11th-12th level, I'm comfortable in saying that I enjoyed Instincts WAY more than the original.

Crysis seems to fix this problem, as the aliens look much more fun to fight and the game seems much more polished, especially presenation-wise. I'm not worried.

See the difference between Far Cry and Halo is Far Cry actually lets you go where you want to go, not be forced down hallways and through the same thing over and over.

Crytek have admitted to some poor level design (the indoor areas) in Far Cry. Crysis will be much better in that regard as Crytek have learned from their mistakes.

I can't believe console owners want Crysis to fail. Even though I don't have a PC that can run the game, I hope it is the best game ever released. Hurray for the gaming industry moving forward.

I know that the best a developer can do for a console will never match what a developer can do for a PC (if they the PC developer is working on the latest and greatest hardware and doesn't have to worry about backwards compatibility).
