Crysis ( vanilla ) still to have best explosion effects in 2011?

Haven't seen any game surpass the explosion effects in Crysis yet. And from what they have shown of Crysis 2 it won t come very close either.

Especially the modded GFX give explosions a better feel of awesomeness.

Not too related to the thread, but I've always wished I could find that Crytek video... It was for CryEngine 2/Crysis before it was released, and it was a nuke with "full" physics. They recorded at 1 FPS and sped it up, and it showed a shockwave coming towards the player and whipping up everything as it went.

I haven't been able to find it since.

But yeah, we'll have to see how Crysis 2 looks when it comes out but Crysis still has sexy explosions.

Actually explosions are one area where Crysis: Warhead dramatically improves on Crysis.

I think the original is a much better game (and better looking overall), but no game comes close to Warhead's explosions.

Hopefully Crysis 2's will match them, but I haven't seen any yet that do so.

Edit: Just watch OP's video. They look similar to Warhead's. I'll have to try out that mod.

Don't have to be modded, vanilla explosions looks better than any explosions I've seen. I agree than Killzone 2 has cool explosions, but the color is all wrong. They have a weird pink/red color. Bad Company 2 has some great explosions too.

Fire effects and particles, yes, but I'd like to see some more destruction - explosions do more than just light an area up. For now, I'd give the nod to Bad Company 2, but even in Frostbite's case there's a long ways to go.
