Crytek's Hunt: Showdown launches on Xbox One spring 2019

unt: Showdown launches on Xbox One this spring, Crytek has announced.

The co-op focused first-person bounty game launches on Microsoft's console as part of the Xbox Game Preview program, which focuses on work-in-progress download games.

In Hunt: Showdown, up to 10 players, either solo or in teams of two, battle against each other and horrible monsters while on the hunt for bounty in the swamps of Louisiana.

Hunt: Showdown launched on Steam as an Early Access title back in February 2018 and while it hasn't set the world on fire, it was well-received by players.

As for developer Crytek, things have gone a little quiet as the company continues to rebuild itself following layoffs and financial troubles. Recently, Crytek published open world, winter sports game Snow, and the Kiev-based developer of Warface struck out on its own.

Could Crytek be readying a return to the Crysis series? With the next-generation of consoles waiting in the wings, perhaps the time is right.

Cool. I enjoyed some of Crytek’s games and wouldn’t mind checking this one out. I’d be down for a new Crysis or even a sequel to Ryse.

That's what I like about Hunt: Showdown the PvE elements are what make it more entertaining for me. In normal BR games you just run around the map looking for players which can take a long time. In Hunt: Showdown the monsters give me some action while the players aren't around. There are also some good strategies you can use the monsters with. Not only you can hear someone is nearby by them fighting monsters it gives you an opportunity to take advantage of. I remember in one of my matches I was watching two players take down the butcher and soon as they killed it I picked up a lantern and threw at it them while they in the middle of banishing and recovering and my partner shot at them at the same time I threw the lantern to make sure we take out at least one of them. Another time me and a teammate were sneaking through a farm that had hives and armored around then out of nowhere an explosion goes of near us. It does a little damage it didn't matter as the sound attracted the hives and armored and then I get killed from being swarmed. My teammates manages to escape but gets shot by a guy hiding in the cornfield who was the one that threw the bomb.

@NoodleFighter: That does sound pretty cool. Hunt is defintely the most interesting Crytek game since the first Crysis. As much as I despise Crytek as a company, I'm not gonna ignore a good game. Doubt it will get any large number of players though..

@Litchie: Hunt: Showdown's playerbase on Steam usually has somewhere between 1,500 - 2,500 players online at a time. I tried out Hunt on a free weekend and enjoyed it so much that I decided to get it the next time it went on sale. I'd say the only thing holding this game back is the lack of content which is boss monsters and maps. They could also improve the optimization and have more graphical options. I hate using SMAA in the game because it makes everything look blurry.

Watching trailer for that made me think of Darkwatch and how Capcom needs to make another.

Good game. I've had some tense matches and some fond memories playing Hunt with @DragonfireXZ95

Garbage game by a now garbage dev

Its not a "survival" game... Its basically Evolve but instead of one team hunting a monster its 10 players who can also work in groups of two. Its a good game but lacks content and is very demanding on hardware, its easily one of the hardest games to run so I would imagine the X1S version of the game will be a nightmare covered in Vaseline.

@R4gn4r0k: We did have some fun times. They released a new map! They did say they were working on a 3rd boss, also.

That was their teaser? Good God, Crytek have shat the bed over the years.

I've been meaning to check out the game since the performance improvements (game ran way better on my 2560x1080 than on my 3440x1440 monitor :p)

A new map sounds sweet, we should definitely play the game together some time :)

None of Crytek games are that good. And yes I mean the first Crysis as well.

The only one that is just “good” or “ok” is Far Cry.

Games become more expensive to make and sell like crap on PC compared to the combined sales of a console release.......they had to adapt their approach if they were to survive.

Nothing they do now can top...Mighty Ryse, so, just sayin. :P

It actually looks pretty good. I know they get a rough press, but I can't stay mad at Crytek if this turns out decent. That's all I'm after - decent games.
