So I see some of you guys here criticizing Cuphead being the hardest game you've played. Have you even heard or played, Contra especially the 3rd one, Megaman 1-3, Ghost n goblins, Ninja Gaiden on Nes etc..

and yeah those were the most satisfying feeling when you have beaten any of these games.

It's way harder than the NES Ninja Gaiden games for sure, at least Ninja Gaiden 1 and the sequel Dark Sword of Chaos. Ancient Ship of Doom I'm hazy on, never played it much, but I do remember it being very cheap.

But the first two NG games, I beat them the day I got them. For reference, I was 7 years old when I beat the first one and it was my 9th birthday when I received and beat the second one. Those games are way easier than people give them credit for. They were the "popular hard games" of their time, much like the Souls games are today. Meaning - not really that hard at all. Just viewed as such by the mainstream audience. There are countless NES games that were truly a nightmare to beat, Ninja Gaiden games weren't among them.

Cuphead is already more difficult than those games by the time you get to world 2.

I wouldn't count Megaman 1-3 either, pretty much similar to Ninja Gaiden.

Ghosts 'n Goblins I might be willing to give you. Some of the Contra games I'd most definitely be willing to give you. Those games are legit fucking hard, and the lives systems made them infuriating.

Cuphead is a legitimately challenging game my dude. Is it as hard as some of the truly brutal classics? Nah. Is it even the hardest modern game? Nope. But even with instant restarts and never ending lives, the game will continually test your mettle.

Omg , ghosts n goblins. The teeears.

Cuphead is my favorite indie for 2017 and its difficulty has a lot to do with it.

Yep, that's a controller breaking game right there.

I'd also add other NES titles like Street Fighter 2010: The Final Fight, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (not the arcade version), Legacy of the Wizard, Top Gun, The Adventures of Bayou Billy, Double Dragon 1 (2 and 3 are much easier), and maybe stuff like Castlevania 3 and Flying Dragon: The Secret Scroll.

Those are just some of the "fair" difficult games off the top of my head. Start talking about some of the more poorly designed or straight up broken games and it gets much worse lol.

Man, Cuphead is very challenging already. If it had a lives system and game overs like some of these older games, holy fvck. Then it would be one of the hardest games ever.

I understand you being one those fanboys who got manipulated the overhype this game is getting. I really love this game, sure it has its good progression system only getting 3 hits and making mistakes. It's just one of those games that I could recommend to my casual buddies who don't even want to try this game cause it's "hardest game ever" title. Like wtf.. I do love the boss battles one of my favorites but it's just those games that want to try your patience. Sadly it was ovehyped by media and its communities.

Game is one of the most beautiful art styles in which is perfected by a technicolor 30s animation btw.

Full stop, STFU lol.

I wasn't even going to buy this game. I was on the fence about it. Dozens of posters here can vouch for that. I was worried that it would just be a pretty game, but ultimately a mediocre one. I had zero hype, hadn't even kept up with any previews, and was not trusting of the honeymoon phase nonsense that typically goes around.

When I asked @jg4xchamp to let me know his impressions after he gets around to it, he just gifted it to me instead. Started playing it and to my surprise, I was having a good time.

Between you coming at me with some fanboy nonsense and then trying to say this game is easier than some games I beat in one sitting as a child, yeah, can't say I value your opinion much here.

Sorry :/

Cuphead is definitely harder than Megaman 1-3.

Ghost and Goblins I'd give you. Ghost and Goblins if just pure torture.

Another NES game I'd easily put above Cuphead is Battletoads.

I dont remember other game than Ghost in the past making me want to smash my head on console ( i played this on ATARI ST , amiga like "pc" ). Maybe Shadow of the beast and a prick of a game Indiana jones and the last crusade on genesis.

I'd be surprised it it was more difficult than Shinobi, espcailly the arcade release which was specifically designed to get those coins out of your pocket.

I honestly haven't played any of the games you listed other Contra 3 maybe a little bit.

Cuphead is not really the hardest game I ever played but I'm not to out to condemn people who say it is.

Hard to say where it stands exactly. I mean sure I've played alot of 2D platformers, but would you classify Cuphead as that? Not really right? It's kind of a 2D boss rush game.

I am inclined to say Super Meat Boy is probably harder than Cuphead. Wings of Vi is definitely harder than Cuphead. Just as a couple examples.

Contra 3 and Ghost's and Goblins weren't THAT hard (admittedly I only ever completed the C64 version of GnG). Ghouls n Ghost's, now that was a ball buster...

Is it harder than Shadow of the Beast or Gaires? Those 2 games were brutal to beat.

Now that I think of it, R-Type 2 on the arcade was very tough as well. Midnight Resistance was quite a challenge as was Fester's Quest on NES along with Treasure Master.

Not the hardest but definitely up there with those classic hard games. The difficulty is reasonable though, it's a well designed game it's not like for example Super COntra(the 2nd contra basically on NES) I remember that game being super hard I could never finish it. It's a little closer to difficulty with Contra 3 (SNES) it's hard but the more you practice and replay you'll get it eventually.

The bosses vary their attack patterns and that's what makes it a little harder for you take them out quickly. The difficulty is not frustrating but you will die a lot, however because it feels a little different each time it adds variety to the trial and error pattern.

But it's definitely harder than what a lot of people are used to seeing these days....the new generation of gamers may have a tough time with it at first, to me I consider it a very well balanced difficulty so far(I'm on 2nd Act) I love the challenge but it's not impossible like this game here I recently got too....another shump this one is brutal in difficulty, I wouldn't necessarily recommend it to people unless they were big fans....that's the difference, a game like CupHead is far more accessible:

Xbox One has so few games, it doesn't take much to be the hardest game. Telltale and Lego games were the previous most difficult on the console.
