Over 4 years after its launch, Cyberpunk 2077 hits 'Overwhelmingly Positive' on Steam: "Never dreamt it will be possible"

Something never imagine would have happened. a game release disaster, huge failure. the same exact game is now masterpiece to the point its by far best CDPR game ever made.

I have beaten the game and felt very impressed. and I was one who complain about this back in 2020.

Cyberpunk 2077 was playable and fun from day 1 on PC. But of course the hate driven content community doesn't really operate based on facts.

Just like governments really don't want you to know facts.

Stalker 2 almost get same treatment as reviewers reviews unpatch and very first version gave it bad scores but it just fixed after few month.

@ghosts4ever: The last gen version was so bad it had to be recalled.

None of this was surprising really, The Witcher was a jank fest mess barely playable back in the day, PC gamers deluded themselves into thinking it was hot shit.

And then we the Witcher 3, which was about as mid as you can made out as a Jesus game because game journos had never actually played PC games.

Very disgusting.

It's one of my favorite games, all time. Played it in VR, along with Phantom Liberty. Freaking amazing top to bottom. Really wasn't expecting it to be that good.

The witcher 1 was terrible like worst in series. PC gamers jerked all over it back in days because "mah PC exclusive" and criticize mass effect when mass effect despite not very good shits all over witcher 1. it was so bad not a single thing was good.

Is it anywhere near the game they hyped up? Or a patched up version of the game that released?

Absolutely. City is alive, vibrant, laced with intriguing elements. The PL add-on is massive, too, with a seriously dope story.

I jumped into Cyberpunk right when the big patch dropped just before Phantom Liberty was released and it is one of my favorite games. I plan on checking it out again to mess around in the world when DLSS 4 drops because I've heard great things with the black magic coming from Nvidia and using DLSS performance and noticing barely any degradation in image quality

No, not even close.

Lot's of lesser known RPG's like Shadowrun and UnderRail that are miles better.

Basically, it had production values. The gameplay is meh.

I enjoyed it immensely when it came out . I didn't encounter as many bugs when it released on PC, but the game has aged like fine wine. The Phantom Liberty Expansion is a template for what DLC content drops should be, and CDPR has given away more free content in updates than what most company's charge for DLC. There's always a lot going on everywhere in the city, and the game has so many intertwining systems in place I can see why the game couldn't run on last gen hardware. The after launch support for the game has been fantastic.

Yup, same thing with 2042 it was playable and fun from day 1. I enjoyed those two games at launch.

glad they fixed it up, but I haven't felt compelled to go back to it after finishing the game at launch. probably should have waited but whatever, it was still very much playable on PC when it came out.

I enjoyed aspects of the game but it was kinda forgettable honestly, compared to the Witcher games. lacked memorable characters and missions. gameplay was decent with how many options it gave you, but became repetitive and wasn't very challenging.

good looking game though.

Will never revisit. Even after the years of fixing a game only someone in denial would enjoy on release, Cyberpunk was falsely advertised as a Deus Ex successor with tons of branching paths and depth, and in reality it's ray-tracing Boarderlands without the fun multiplayer coop.

Pass!

The problem comes from playing it on last-gen consoles is why it got the backlash it deserves as CDPR had no business of doing cross-gens if they knew it's unplayable and they got what was coming to them I can agree on.

It was playable on PC and the fact I played it on PC day one, I really enjoy it. If I had play it on Console, I would be pissed and my experience would be very different had I not play it on PC. Guess I'm a fool who enjoyed it on PC and hardly had any problems running the game but hey, I'm just spiting facts that the PC version was playable🤷‍♂️

To TC, I didn't get CP2077 on Steam, I got it on GoG so I had no idea the Steam reviews were mixed to begin with. Also, NMS went from 'negative' to 'overwhelming positive' but even then, I enjoy NMS when it was release day one.

Same, love it on PC but that doesn't mean we should let CDPR off the hook because they knew better to not release the game for last-gen and this is proof that cross-gens is a mistake not just on CDPR but for every developer IMO.

@davillain: You make the assumption that I've never played the P.C. version before the 2.0 update and that no high-end P.C. player took issue with the game (the title of this thread begs to differ)

Regardless, none of that corrects the lack of branching paths or depth Cyberpunk lacks. It's a open world looter shooter with lite-RPG mechanics, extremely linear in progression. As noted even on its best day it's Boarderlands without the fart jokes but lacks the chaotic and fun coop.

So if you like playing Boarderlands on your own and wanted a shiner game? sure it's a game for you.

CP2077 was advertised to be a modern Deus Ex and it's not in any sense of the word. CDPR lied, and actively ignored addressing those fake features that never saw the light of day.

So yeah, Boarderland fans who play solo will like the Cyberpunk available today. If someone wants a branching path RPG with choice and depth? not this game.. play a Larian Studios game, a studio that doesn't lie about its product.

Sure you can understand why I'd come to that conclusion I trust?

If that was not your intent that's ok though. Point remains the same. It's not what was advertised and that's why majority was unhappy. The bugs and terrible ports are just more shit on the pile.

It's a fine game now for what it is. But it's still not that Deus Ex successor shown in advertising.

@Pedro: Cyberpunk 2077 was chastised on release.

The Gamespot reviewer was harassed for giving a not expected 9.5 out of 100.

Bethesda games get a 9 and a gentle tap on the wrist.

Specifically said released. This is post-release.

Both are bad, obviously, and not the first time CDP have done it, exact same with Witcher, which had a "Enhanced Edition", which should have been named "It works now but is still shit edition"

Never been interested, still isn't.

Haven't read anything from anyone about why the game is good. Not that I actively search for it, but you usually come across someone.. Everytime I look at it, it looks like nothing special. No new or interesting gameplay mechanics or anything, just a regular open world FPS that we've seen a lot of already. People in this thread say it's great, or the best game ever even, but no one says why. I hear things like its forgettable, half assed, missing promised features, and those things sound much more true than "omg best game ever".

People said Witcher 3 was the best game ever too, and it bored the hell out of me. Even if CP2077 was good, which I doubt, I don't want to support CDPR.

Regarding CP2077, though, it looks boring. No one has yet convinced me of it not being boring.

Have a similar take on the unknown, if someone in the forum is intending to sell someone on a game, have some valid points. All I see for praise on Cyber Punk is "wow look at those graphics"/ "the story is really good"/ "open world"... & that's a big pile of nothing.

If you can't explain the gameplay in a convincing or non-vague manner, you're dodging the real questions. When people buy video games, majority (large majority) want to know how it plays. You know because it's a video game.

& while I'm not the biggest fan of the game seems to me I'm the only one who's played it and given an honest and simple answer on this post regarding the gameplay for Cyber Punk. It's a prettier Boarderlands: Solo-Play Edition.

Everyone else is darting around the question with "well I liked it"/ blah blah ray-tracing..

If your way to convince someone on the fence is with "well I liked it"? you've failed. May as well be suggesting Dragon Lame: The Failguard.

@RSM-HQ: there's thousands of user reviews which could be read on steam or YouTube to give detailed opinions of the game. Use some initiative instead of feeling the need to be spoon-fed like a toddler.

So your answer is "I've got nothing, go visit a place you've already been" (because I played it on Steam). Weak argument and a weaker insult. Plus you really think those reviews give any meaningful context, really...

Oh yeah just read reviews all day and maybe one will add something worth reading while the other 98% is as vague as your shitty messages.

Frankly if you can't even contextualize your own thoughts I don't know how you can even attempt to insult someone who's skeptical on the game like Litchie is. As you have literally added nothing to this conversation. Less than nothing in fact, you've wasted both of our time. Just like the average Steam review.
