Poll Cyberpunk, has your opinion changed? (42 votes)

Yes 45%
Nay 55%
No Caption Provided

When Cyberpunk released, everyone hyped it. Even Ghost, who's usually right about everything. Me, I think Conan, and a few other brave users had 0 hype, and even more heroically trashed it prior to release with no knowledge of it's actual quality.

Turns out, this was actually a really good move and factually correct.

As the meh and lower reviews pilled in, the second coming, the ultimate game, was just that, a game, a deeply flawed one that launched in a terrible state, a beloved meme developer now having to protect themselves from lynch mob.

But here we are, in the future. Sometime later.

Has the clock been kind?

Nah. Even if they've fixed all the technical hiccups, just never liked a CDPR game. Maybe this is "the one", but at this point don't even care to try it. And what I've gathered from trustworthy opinions, seems to be the right move.

This is how felt. Not just talking about all the fapping to Witcher 3.

All the way back with Witcher: Enhanced Edition prior to this forum on Gametrailers, pc gamers were literally acting like these guys were their saviors. where the "pc master race" meme comes from. The idea that this game was somehow above console RPGs.

When in reality, at the time, and now, it was, and has never been good. It's not just a "bad" game, it's a "terrible" game.

CDP played them like a fiddle and seem to have done so all the way to Cyberpunk.

Not just them, say the press as well. Constantly acting like they were a prestige developer.

Prior to Cyberpunks release dumbasses were acting like it was some cultural event.

lol yeah. And I bit three different times, which makes me the sucker tbh. Each of the sequels "oh but trust me, the gameplay is good now!" Meh. Not trusting that shite again. The games must have their appeal, it's just lost on me. It's definitely not the playing it part.

Yeah man, really wish I still had the screencap. Some reviewers headline like "Cyberpunk is the high water mark that other games will be chasing for the next decade". 😂

The witcher 1 was so bad I remember how it was praise and defence against console game. lol.

this shitty game had far worse gameplay than Mass effect which PC gamers hated.

Yea, basically just acted like it was a given "win" and no doubt influenced a shit ton of people to buy it on that premise.

And then what we say here on Gamespot, when that huge potatoe'd girl who left reviewed it as "meh", acted like she had ruined their life.

Gogs cool though, used that a fair bit over the years and won't say a bad word about it. That's the main thing like them for.

Might just be, being a grumpy asshole as well tbh. Might go back and give Cyberpunk a shot with the expansion and realize I was actually the asshole lol

First impressions are important to me. Maybe I'll warm back up to it when the DLC hits and maybe with some mods but for now I'm not going to forget that it was an unpolished dumpster fire at launch, even on PC which was by far the best showing for it.

The pc gamers on Gametrailers were something else.

Crazy back then.

Had the staff, who were clearly console fanboys, hated pc gaming, tried to shit on it every chance they could.

And you had the tribal pc guys in perpetuals "give me validation assholes **** you!"

Good times.

Funnily enough Witcher was one of the games both the sites and the users praised.

The core mechanics of the game are from around 2010. I don't want that now when we have the likes of RDR2, ER, etc.

My opinion changed but probably not in the way you'd expect...

The short version is I kinda talked/hyped myself into liking the game at launch, but realized later on its pretty meh.

The long version:

I was a huge Witcher fan and was all aboard the hype train for 2077. I put about 60 hours into the game at launch, and at the time kinda convinced myself it was a good game as I did enjoy the story and the world, and didn't suffer as many bugs as some people. A bit of open world jank doesn't bother me too much if I can get the game running at a decent frame rate and I like the underlying game.

But upon reflection, and coming back to the game in the last few months to check it out after patches, it really was underwhelming. It completely lacks the charm and memorable characters of the Witcher games. The world just felt kinda dead and hollow once you get past the surface veneer of nice graphics. The NPC ai is still super wacky and constantly breaks immersion. Exploration for the most part doesn't feel rewarding like it did in The Witcher 3.

I started another playthrough and only made it a few hours in before realizing, I didn't really want to spend any more time with it. There are a good amount of options in the combat/encounter design, but I realized that the only one that appealed to me was the way I played it the first time, and replaying it the same way just didn't seem worthwhile.

I'm hoping CD Projekt can rebound with their next game, and I'm glad they are going back to The Witcher. They tried to become Rockstar, instead of focusing on their strengths, and it backfired.

Nope. I was never hyped and thought the game was okay for the most part. I still enjoyed the game cos I had no hype from it whatsoever. It's much better now with mods too.

I just realized, the poll options are flawed. It could mean, "Yes, I think the game is great now" or "Yes, I think the game is trash underwhelming now" to "No, I still think the game has been trash or bad" or "No, I still like the game."

Well my opinion has changed a couple of times. Before it came out I was quite looking forward to the game. It launched and turned out very poorly so was disappointed and did not pick it up. They’ve worked on it and it seems to be in a better state so am interested in checking it out now. Unfortunately it may be too late now as there’s just simply way too many other games vying for my time these days.

They have fixed a ton of issues since then and the game is very playable - even on a fat Ps4. So yeah, I think it's safe to say that opinions changed. As a fixed game, Cyberpunk is an awesome game with an intriguing story to tell.

I enjoyed the game. No doubt a convoluted work but still cool. Much more interesting than a GTA but the execution level was nowhere near.

I really liked how overpowered you get. Which is something I appreciate, when a game just lets you go wild with the tools they gave you.

Had some interest in it before they showed the game. Cyberpunk stuff is cool, and being an FPS might mean it'll be more fun than Witcher, I thought. But then they showed the game and it looked lame. Trying to hype it up with Keanu made it even more lame, and then the game launched and sucked.

Don't feel any desire to play the game at all. Looks boring.

I actually really liked it at release, but as time went on and I replayed it recently, I found it a bit tedious. Maybe I played it too much but I don't think it has aged well.

CDProject Red have a history of over promising and under delivering. The hype for this game was unwarranted, mainly because very little was shown of the game yet folks claiming best game ever. So, nay.

I waited a few months for patches before playing it. I really enjoyed playing through the campaign on PC. I am now playing with RT Overdrive and it is very sexy. The expansion looks badass too. So, my opinion has not changed. I love CDPR games when they are not in a broken state.

Cyberjunk is one of the worst and most disappointing games I have ever played in my life.

Just a terrible game really, and the most buggy experience I have ever had.

Though apparently CP2077 with Psycho settings and fully path raced overdrive ray tracing mode has the best graphics of any game they say.

As an RTX 4090 Hermit king I might have to buy CP2077 *again* just to enjoy those visuals.

I played it shortly after launch and my opinion was shaped purely on its core gameplay mechanics as (thankfully) I didn't face many bugs that would hinder the experience. They seem to have really improved performance and ironed out the bugs but the underlying game itself is still the same and so is my opinion.

Overall I had a good time with the game. We don't get many Cyperbpunk worlds of its scale to explore so I really enjoyed that aspect of the game. The wow factor does wear out after a point though and you realize that Night City is quite dead and artificial. Story is fairly intriguing, combat is ok, AI is bad.

Still think it's an 8/10 purely thanks to its setting. Did have higher expectations prior to release which Cyberpunk 2077 never met.

ive never liked a cdpr game but i'm an eternal optimist when it comes to games no matter how many times been burnt. that's why ive got witcher 3 ps5 version installed and ready to play even though could never get into it last gen and bought it twice (once on ps4 and goty on pc🤦). it's why i still have a faint flicker of hope that splinter cell remake might not be a shit show despite ubisoft's decade+ of shite. so i cant rule out not picking up a copy of cp again, sadly

Yea, think Ubisoft might surprise people are really attempt to do something in the spirit of the original rather than PR crap.

Having said that, Ubisoft being Ubisoft, will they be able to resist unlock/XP systems? A bunch of crap around it?

Probably not. While defend Blacklist (technically Double Agent did it first), that, R6, GR, has no place for grind crap.

Part of the original fun was fully being given tools, and making choices (you know, tactical?) pre-mission as what is the best kit to use.

I liked at launch, acknowledged it was broken.

Will play again when the expansion drops. Expect it to still be fun, but less broken.

Interesting to read the responses. I still haven't played it and, at this stage, I think I'm just going to wait for the expansion + about 6 months of more patches before I actually play the game.

Seems to be a very divisive game. On paper it looks like something I should enjoy though.

Played it last fall and overall I thought it was awesome. It has some fundamental flaws, but the world building is stellar. I don't think I ever played a more uneven game. I mean the gameplay is kind of broken. Poorly balanced and enemy AI is worse than in Assassin's Creed. You have a lot less impact on the story than you first realize, which I guess is understandable given the scope of the game. Some of the missions are very restricted and they are halted by very loooong cutscenes.

How the game still manages to be so addictive/enjoyable is remarkable. I guess it's a combination of characters/quests and just the overall vibe of the gameworld.

Do recommend!

The fact that you have to replay that whole entire introduction was enough to really steer me clear of a 5th playthrough. Did they add a "skip intro" feature yet?

Granted that would cut the play by about 2-3 hours but man, having to replay that whole introductory scenario plus the initial bits of Night City....zzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Just give me the option to make a new game, start at level 5, and have just the main story quest in my logbook.

I played through it again after the last big patch a few months back and I still feel like im playing a game that wasnt fully realised before it was released. I wouldnt say I was hyped for it, though I saw a lot of potential in it that mostly fell flat.

I was trashing it before release. So no, my opinion didn't change after release. It just confirmed what I was already saying about CDPR being overrated.

But after Edgerunners came out, it did give me a new appreciation for the game world. However, Edgerunners itself was somewhat overrated (Studio Trigger have made better anime before). But it has at least made me interested in giving the game a chance.
