EW: We were just profiling it not too long ago as we were wrapping up production. As far as the Cell processor is concerned, we're actually using about a third to half of that right now, so there's still a bit of untapped potential there.

You are always going to hear we are using all of the cells power from devs and we have not tapped the cells power from Sony. Same goes for every company when talking about performance.

I'm retty sure that it's true, but that is the case for 360 also. Games are bound to look better later in the gen.

GS AU: We understand the team actually surfed forums a bit and implemented some gamer feedback into the final game. Is that right?

EW: That is correct. One of the most noticeable ones was just a few weeks ago, I had put a blog entry up on the US PlayStation blog, and I got a bunch of responses asking me about the resolutions we support. Up until that day, we were only supporting 720p and it never really crossed our minds to support anything else. In the US, we have this issue where a lot of early adopters with HDTVs have TVs that only support 1080i. So if you have a TV that supports 1080i and the game only supports 720p, the PS3 will default to 480p, which isn't even high-def and is not the way Uncharted should be experienced. So they bought that to my attention--I mean, it was kind of embarrassing that we didn't know that before--and literally within the hour we had 1080i support up to take care of all those people.

Why would devs lie about that? They don't exactly have a huge incentive since some might read "our game's not as strong as it should be", and with so many devs saying that, there has to be some truth in it. I don't see praises for other hardware (well, other than Blu-Ray, I guess).

Uhh you said "pwned", so you probably got beaten badly, meaning if it was someone more skillful than you, the other person would have to take the game more seriously and use more if "his powers". It actually makes sense. Back in my ESF days (waaaaaay back), when I fought someone who sucked, I kept just taunting them and teleporting away when they're close to hitting me. Ironically enough, after they respawned 10 times and I'm finally dead, they gloat and don't believe me when I tell them I didn't take it seriously.

WHY OH WHY DID I HAVE TO WRITE SO MUCH ABOUT THAT?

because the cell doesn't do graphics. Cows need to understand that Sony really missed the point completely with the PS3. A top of the line super CPU will only increase costs and NOT increase visuals. I doubt any game will use the cell over 50%, because the GPU is the bottleneck.

The cell on its own can render scenes in 1080p. If used properly it can take alot of the strain of the RSX. The PS3 is the most efficient gaming platform designed. i don't see why this should be mocked at. Yes, he's developing for sony. But the ps3 is very hard to develop for, which shows considering all the bad ports. The development time would have been longer and more money would have to be put in so they decided that trying to use the cell fully wouldn't pay off right now. Its their first game on the console, no rush to bring everything to the table.

It has been stated b4 it can do some of the calculations for the RSX, but i havnt heard about real time mappin n 1080p but then i cba to look for it lol

More than likely, you're right. History shows that you probably will be.

But wasn't it the GeoW devs saying they had pushed 360 to its limits. And, futhermore, there's been nothing to equal GeoW even a year later. Is this a sign of something? Only time will tell.

Yeah I know. My basic idea about the Cell was that it's a super processor capable of simultaneous calculations with minor Graphical abilities. Yet if it's capable of doing 1080P and realtime terrain mapping, the graphical abilities aren't minor and I will admit that the PS3>360 graphically.

There's also the simple fact that a Cell unit used for graphics rendering cannot be used for general computing. So developers have to decide what is more important for the Cell to do.

As Humans we only use approximately 13 percent of our brain and its been like that for hundreds of years. Just imagine if we used 30 percent. It might takes few more thousand years for us to start using 14-15 percent of our brain IF EVER. what im saying is ps3 been out for almost a year now -360 been out for almost 2, don't expect any huge transformation in games in next few years, other wise you will be left very disappointed. Specially when new Gen. will probably start in next 3-4 years.

This could be very very true because the military or other government organizations use a lot of technology that we have never seen and some that was used for years before they were used in the main stream markets for various products.

the publisher is sony though. so it's not like they don't have pressure to make the ps3 look better. Sony definitely doesn't want ppl to thing a game as already tapped it out.
