Dark Souls II: Scholars of the First sin

So this is it everyone, one of 2014s best games is coming to PS4/XB1

For those who haven't played DS2 yet this is a great package.

You might have thought that buying into the new generation of consoles would protect you from the gleeful, maniacal punishment of the Dark Souls series, but you were wrong. Namco has revealed that a new edition of Dark Souls 2, subtitled Scholar of the First Sin, is headed to Xbox 360, PS3, PC and now, for the first time, Xbox One and PS4.

On all platforms – according to Namco – the expanded edition of the game packs some new features, including improved balance, new NPCs, an expanded story, and new item descriptions. These improvements will also be available to existing Dark Souls 2 owners via a free update. Meanwhile, the Xbox One, PS4 and DirectX 11 PC versions of the game will offer "enhanced graphics," with Namco explaining to Joystiq that this includes higher resolution textures and improved lighting effects, among other things. Furthermore, these versions of the game will increase the maximum number of online players.

Of course, it wouldn't be a proper re-release without packing in some DLC, and all versions ofScholar of the First Sin will include all three of Dark Souls 2's DLC episodes. Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin is set to arrive on April 7, 2015 – just after Bloodborne, developer From Software's newest game, hits the shelves.

Well, my patience was payed. Knew the game was coming for PS4 and I stayed away from the PS3 version.

Gonna get it after a price drop though, I'll be paying by then Bloodborne by then.

I still haven't finished Demon's Souls, nor opened my copy of Dark Souls 1

I knew it the second this game was announced for last gen only (especially this late in the gen). Next game coming to ps4/x1 is BL Presequel. Am i buying this? After about 400h of pvping i think i've done and experienced everything i wanted from DkS2.

The biggest improvement over the PS3 version for the PC is the loading time. I can tell that from all the twitch tv I've been watching. It's ridiculous on the PS3, but tolerable. I guess it will be quite a bit faster on the Xbox One and PS4 too. For those who haven't played it, you're in for a hell of a journey (in a good way) if you stick at it.

Meh. I kinda want to play the DLC but maybe I'll just watch a walkthrough instead. The game was a major letdown and as soon as Bloodborne was announced I got rid of DS2 and moved on.

Yay, i am glad that i waited for this, i knew it would come. All DLC´s included on the disc as it should be :D

So they removed those lighting effects so it can be used in Enhanced PC version and current gen console version .? Always believed that and seems like game industry is becoming too predictable .

Well if the trailer's graphics are anything to go by, I'm gonna be content with my version on PS3 along with Bloodborne.

For me it may as well be Dark Souls 2: The Gankening.

All 3 DLC packs included in the game (Crown of the Sunken King, Crown of the Old Iron King, Crown of the Ivory King).

Additional NPCs added for an enhanced story experience.

Parameter adjustments for improved game balance.

Augmented item descriptions.

Improved online matchmaking functionality.

Xbox One, PS4, and DirectX 11 versions of the game will include the following features (in addition to those listed above):

Additional upgrades to graphics, sound, performance.

Increase in maximum online players in single session (6 total).

That last one is cool. Might convince me to join, along with 60 FPS and Remote Play.

Darksouls 2 was garbage.

Isn't this one universally considered disappointing?

Worse than the others overall but still a great game. I have more playtime on Dark Souls 2 than the other Souls games because it has the most variety in weapons and armor, most content, and the best DLC.

Hmmm. Actually, I might get it then. I was holding off on it so far, but eh, this sounds like a good deal, and like you said, even the 'worst' Souls game is still a great game.

I don't think Dark Souls II is better or worse then the other two games, however the DLC was better.

People saying this is a bad game need to just go away unless they can provide specific details on why they think it's bad (below average).

I'm just not jumping up and down to get Dark Souls 2. Loved Demons and Dark, but for some reason I'm not keen on getting this. I'd rather just straightly go for Bloodborne.

By "improved balance" I think they mean they are just to tip the stats even more to the enemies' favour.

I skipped GTAV, TLOU and DS2 when they first came out. My patience/lack of time has really been paying off.

This was ALWAYS going to happen. I predicted this months ago.

However, i bought DS2 because i didn't want to fully wait. If they add the lighting and effects shown at the original build has a free patch for PC, than i'm abit ok with it.

Not only was the pc version a couple of months late, but they downgraded it aswell? None of that stuff was impossible on PCs of the time. Mainly becuase, it was 8 months agos

If this a payed pc version for teh E3 effetcs, than i'm not only pirating it, but also future FROM SOFTWARE games, and buying then at 5 euros on a steam sale. latter

@dommeus: They practically took out any sense of exploration that a 3D Metroidvania like Dark Souls had. Of course the common comparison is that it feels more like a mix of Dark and Demons' Souls with Majula and all, but at least Demons' levels mostly looped back around in an interesting fashion, whereas DS2 used shortcuts quite poorly.

It's the most technically sound and accessible Souls yet but between the less creative bosses, way too easy health system, and hugely maligned Soul Memory system it had its share of disappointments.

"Hey remember those lighting effects we stripped out of the game before launch that could easily have ran on PC? Well now you can have them back!!! If you buy another version of the game..."

**** that shit.

Would rather spend a tenth of the price and get the PC version this winter.
