Both VERY similar games, one just happens to be a bought exclusive.

Which one do you prefer?

As much as I liked Bloodborne, all the way through it I couldn't help but feel that this felt more like a DLC component of Dark Souls than its own game.

The lore and characters in Bloodborne are completely forgettable - the polar opposite of Dark Souls.

Bloodborne's aesthetic is quite different but got tiresome after the 50+ hours I spend with it. That said, Yharnam still looks amazing, but there aren't that many secrets to be found there.

Oh and the Chalice Dungeons... A MESS.

Dark Souls is a much better game imo. Do you agree?

Damage control? 9 months after release? Who would bother.

Just seeing people's opinions on the matter. I think Dark Souls remains the better game for the above reasons.

You sound angry that I would even present such a question.

Are you going to answer the question in the OP or just keep throwing toys out of the pram?

Am at the last boss in The Old Hunters but haven't had a free opportunity to return and beat him/her/it.

Dark Souls' AotA DLC is still the finest post-launch DLC I've ever played, primarily because it wasn't intended to be post-launch at all. And while both areas from BB and DS are clearly extraneous from the main game, Old Hunters' separation is far more disparate.

So Dark Souls, but not by much.

I prefer Dark Souls for a couple reasons. I just like the setting in the games more than Bloodborne. I also like the equip/weapons choices in Dark Souls, although the DLC added a bunch of weapons to choose from in Bloodborne.

I'd take BB over DkS1 any day. The only thing that's better done in DkS1 over BB is pvp but even that had boatload of problems with lagstabs, shit servers etc. Bloodborne's theme is perfect while Dark Souls one is just medieval fantasy setting, nothing special. lol at people saying BB has forgettable characters and no story... you're mixing up DkS2 with BB. BB's story and characters are as interesting as they were in the original Dark Souls.

Dark Souls

I like the setting way better in Dark Souls. Also think the variety of appealing armor and weapons is much greater in Dark Souls. Beyond that, I suck at Bloodborne it's far to fast for me and I like the slower, more methodical approach to Dark Soul's combat as well as the option to go defensive. I've beaten both DS games but only got through about 80% of Bloodborne (got up to the One Reborn and lost interest after not being able to kill it).

Obviously he's played it which most likely means he owns a PS4. Why would it being exclusive bother him? He's giving his opinion and asking a question, nothing more.

Nope, I don't. A dlc component? Are you for real?

Yes it is a "souls" type game to me. It uses the same basic structure as Demon's Souls and some of Dark and sound effects as well. But it wasn't the same world and the speed of combat made it stand away from Dark Souls enough to make me laugh at your DLC comment. Its a great fuckin game, just admit it, play it, deal with it.

I see Bloodborne as the weakest Souls game in the series. Aside from its aesthetics (which I'm glad DS3 is copying), the game is effectively a shorter and dumbed down Souls game.

Bloodborne is the better game if we're including the DLC for both Bloodborne and Dark Souls

Otherwise, Dark Souls is probably the better overall package due to its superior multiplayer and build diversity

Dark Souls is just a bootleg version of Demon Souls. Corny Hermits and Lemmings should be grateful to Sony for commissioning From Software to create the Souls series.

I don't really pay much attention to the narrative behind the souls games in general, then I played bloodborne and I freaking love everything about it. I wish more games were like the souls series. The way they tell the story and the deep meaning behind many of the words. Even when character say so little but it tells a lot and I felt about certain characters too. Bloodborne is a masterpiece. I am going to have to replay the entire souls series. It's just so intriguing. The gameplay in bloodborne is superior imo. The way you have to dodge and plan your attacks is something I loved. You are the one who has to be on the offensive, it's like every battle is do or die. Every encounter that requires fast movement and dodging and shit just feels awesome. I fought Maria the other day and replayed my fight with her and it was awesome to figure out new ways to look cooler while I slay her. The series as a whole is just the thing that makes me turn on my console again and get excited for new games. I hope Miyazaki creates a new IP souls inspired but like the next step for the series. It needs that push otherwise it may get stale, maybe a ninja game or berserk with new combat or something .

I kind of disagree. But I guess this is a subjective matter.

While Bloodborne nails its atmosphere way better than Dark Souls...I kind of blame that on the fact that BB is a 2015 game.. But still in terms of atmosphere I'd give Bloodborne a solid 10/10. I've said this in previous threads.. Bloodborne has the most oppressive atmosphere in any game I've played before...even more than Dead Space which I found the most oppressive until BB released. Bloodborne has nice fluid mechanics..but I don't think I'd want it in Dark Souls III. Fast, fluid doesn't necessarily make it better.. While it definitely worked well in BB I don't think it will in Dark Souls III.

Dark Souls is probably the most heavily drenched in fantasy medieval setting of all games..The vibe and the size of everything make you feel absolutely insignificant at the start of the game.. I didn't get this feeling in Bloodborne...while the your insignificance was still hinted and suggested throughout the game. Dark Souls III will have Miyazaki back. And it will be 2016... Meaning that Dark Souls III will probably nail the atmosphere it wants to give even more than BB. From Soft...obviously learned a lot from Bloodborne...Atmosphere always played a part in the Souls series... and judging from the Bloodborne's amazing victorian gothic style world to it's lively disgusting boss designs... Dark Souls III is gonna be a marvel to look at.

Bloodborne is a bit more lacking when it comes to lore though..and that's where Dark Souls nailed it. In terms of setting...I'd still take Dark Souls because it has more variety which means more lore.. In terms of setting aesthetic, it's definitely Bloodborne.

Just seeing people's opinions on the matter. I think Dark Souls remains the better game for the above reasons.

I don't see this as damage control either, but to answer your question..

I have played dark souls 1 & 2. Dark souls is certainly one of the best games I've ever played and it made me postpone my purchase of skyrim (dark souls released a couple of weeks before skyrim) but 2011 is now already quite some time ago.

I thought dark souls was great for the following reasons, it had challenging and very responsive gameplay. The game had a certain atmosphere than I've never seen before. The sheer desolation when talking to npc's was something that I've never experienced.

The graphics and artwork were amazing, so were the bosses. Dark souls simply has amazing bosses. The multiplayer component in dark souls is something that made the game stand out as well. So dark souls is certainly a masterpiece. For me it's goty 2011 and I'm a bethesda fan (I gotta say it's close though, skyrim is a masterpiece as well).

But dark souls II was a bit of a failure to me, they tried to recreate the atmoshere of the the first game and it kind of failed imo, same with the invading mechanic, it was more rare in dark souls and to me that was a good thing. The graphics and artwork were a failure too, while dark souls graphics and artwork was amazing for 2011, dark souls II was a bit lower in quality and for 2014 that just didn't cut it. I know the game got some good scores and it's still a good game but it's nothing like the masterpiece dark souls I was.

That wasn't the same with bloodborne, bloodborne brought the soul series to the next generation, something dark souls II failed to do. The bosses and athmosphere defenitely felt like a breath of fresh air but I do have to admit that I haven't actually played the game. I'm basing myself of gameplay videos but what I saw defenitely looked a lot better than dark souls I and II. It looked better in artwork, graphics, gameplay and atmosphere, and the difference is big, very big. Blood borne looks like a game of this gen, dark souls looks like last gen.

Bloodborne is the only reason that I regret that I don't have a playstation and this is coming from a die hard xbox fan , I'm simply the self proclaimed king of lemmings here. So to answer your question, I would have to say no, dark souls is not the better game, not in a long shot.

Are people still hurt by this being an exclusive. People always forget the original 'Souls game is an exclusive.

Kinda wish they remastered the original Demon's Souls with an expansion to put in the unfinished levels to how they should have been, the unused assets on the disc make me cry.

@DressYouUp: While i wholly disagree that Bloodborne feels like Dark Souls dlc, I still prefer Dark Souls.

I love the setting and concept for Bloodborne but it just felt like it lacked lore, variety and repayability that we take for granted in the Souls games. It was a great game to me, it took melee combat to a new level no doubt, but there was no fun playing about with different builds or playstyles Bloodborne which ultimately pushed me back to dark souls.

Has anyone tried the Bloodborne dlc, does it give some much needed new life to the game?

Bloodborne managed to hold my attention far better (all the way to completion, actually), so I'll go with that one.

@_Matt_: like people said man. The DLC is great. 4 new areas, new bosses and one of the is arguably the best in the souls series and imo the best Bloodborne boss. New weapons too and it's more challenging than the main game. Bloodborne feels incomplete without it. Go for it if you love Bloodborne. And if you need any help just PM me when I'm online on PSN.
