the damage control is strong with this one
Damage control? 9 months after release? Who would bother.
Just seeing people's opinions on the matter. I think Dark Souls remains the better game for the above reasons.
I don't see this as damage control either, but to answer your question..
I have played dark souls 1 & 2. Dark souls is certainly one of the best games I've ever played and it made me postpone my purchase of skyrim (dark souls released a couple of weeks before skyrim) but 2011 is now already quite some time ago.
I thought dark souls was great for the following reasons, it had challenging and very responsive gameplay. The game had a certain atmosphere than I've never seen before. The sheer desolation when talking to npc's was something that I've never experienced.
The graphics and artwork were amazing, so were the bosses. Dark souls simply has amazing bosses. The multiplayer component in dark souls is something that made the game stand out as well. So dark souls is certainly a masterpiece. For me it's goty 2011 and I'm a bethesda fan (I gotta say it's close though, skyrim is a masterpiece as well).
But dark souls II was a bit of a failure to me, they tried to recreate the atmoshere of the the first game and it kind of failed imo, same with the invading mechanic, it was more rare in dark souls and to me that was a good thing. The graphics and artwork were a failure too, while dark souls graphics and artwork was amazing for 2011, dark souls II was a bit lower in quality and for 2014 that just didn't cut it. I know the game got some good scores and it's still a good game but it's nothing like the masterpiece dark souls I was.
That wasn't the same with bloodborne, bloodborne brought the soul series to the next generation, something dark souls II failed to do. The bosses and athmosphere defenitely felt like a breath of fresh air but I do have to admit that I haven't actually played the game. I'm basing myself of gameplay videos but what I saw defenitely looked a lot better than dark souls I and II. It looked better in artwork, graphics, gameplay and atmosphere, and the difference is big, very big. Blood borne looks like a game of this gen, dark souls looks like last gen.
Bloodborne is the only reason that I regret that I don't have a playstation and this is coming from a die hard xbox fan , I'm simply the self proclaimed king of lemmings here. So to answer your question, I would have to say no, dark souls is not the better game, not in a long shot.
