I love this idea, I certainly would love a God of War with Zelda gameplay. Please make this Sony. :D

David Jaffe Wants To Make "God of War Meets Zelda"

Aside from working hard at putting the finishing touches onTwisted Metalfor its release date on February 14, 2012, David Jaffe likes to write blogs on hispersonal website. On hislatest blog post, the eccentric developer contemplated what it would be like if he ever directs anotherGod of Wargame. And although he actually would prefer not to come back to the game franchise that made him famous back in the PS2 era, he mentioned that he would consider a return if and only if the conditions were right.

Right conditions for developers usually mean that whether he/she will be given enough budget and time to make it, as well as plenty of creative freedom. However, David has a slightly different take on it:

A lot of people ask me if I'd ever make another GOD OF WAR (assuming that opportunity was offered) and I always say the same thing: if it were GOD OF WAR meets something like ZELDA (formula wise), then yes (aka Darksiders, right?)…But if it were GOD OF WAR using the current formula, I would not. For me- and this is just me PERSONALLY (I get and respect not everyone shares this same thinking)- directing GOD OF WAR made me realize that as a game designer (and certainly as game director) I want our games to serve the gods of GAMEPLAY first and foremost. My and then team's desire to tell a story/make a movie may or may not get to be fulfilled (depending on the game) but if we do tell a story, it will never come at the expense of the gameplay (the thing that makes our medium matter and special). Games can have story (and many should, such as God of War) and most games- even pure play games- should have strong world and IP. But working on God of War made it clear that- for me- if we have to cut a set piece or bit of spectacle because of our desire to put play first, then so be it. Ideally, the BEST games are those that do both.

Come on Sony, David just made his move, now it's your turn!

"Games can have story (and many should, such as God of War)" It would have probably been better without the story. :P I wonder if this would turn out for the best, an open world GoW could be fun if they made the combat better.

If they can do it better than Darksiders (which, to me, didn't look Zelda at all), then go ahead.

I'd be interested in that. I would love to get a less-kiddie version of Zelda. Demon's/Dark Souls kind of does it with the gameplay but the story isn't there

If you're actually expecting this to end up being an actual game some day you'll probably be waiting a long time.

ahaahhahaa. Would be hilarious. Especially if there are the sex scenes between Link and Zelda, with Zelda going "Am I too much women for you Link?" as Link bones her. Also, there needs to be ridiculous amount of gore like the other God of War games.

(yes I know this isn't really what he meant)

Because games like Majora's Mask had a story adults wouldn't understand more than kids.

Zelda is not that "kiddy" of a series, play Majora's Mask and it shows that series can be quite grim.

Games dont need to be grim and gruesome to be have adult relating content. People will never understand this I guess.

They have this Zelda perception burned into them. No matter what one says, they will not think differently.

On topic, I'm not against the idea. Go for it, Jaffe.

I'm just saying that Zelda is not a "kiddy" series, as well as the fact as it can be quite grim (Majora's Mask was a very dark game after all, not even Twilight Princess was that grim).

Don't get me wrong, the Zelda games are great (Ocarina of Time is my favorite game ever) but they are meant to appeal to everyone and be accessible to everyone. I'm talking a diffcult game with a deeper combat system with more RPG elements and a much darker theme through (kind of how OoT was as Adult Link).

Basically the game would be similar to Demon's Souls except it would star an actual protagonist and would have an deep story. If you've played Demon's Souls or Dark Souls than you know that would be awesome

ugh. thats not what I want out of a god of war game. i dont want more "open world" elements and **** like that. the god of war universe is already fleshed out enough. it doesnt need an open world to accomplish that.

I want more badass, monumental scaled, gore soaked greatness that the series has been based on. god of war offers us action, scope, and brutality on a scale that no other game matches. there is no reason for it to conform to other games' styles and methods. and I guarantee if its open world, it wont have as many epic moments as the other GOW games and it simply wont be as good. period.

darksiders came a few years ago and has a much more interesting lore (and characters) if you ask me, so i'll stay with it. plus GoW has always been pretty boring to me, i don't see it changing. also he just realized that the overuse of the QTE he popularized are a bad thing. i find it rather ironic :P

At least he likes to change things up a bit, which is a nice trait for developers. The gameplay of GoW never clicked with me since it was so much of a mindless button-smasher. If they did something like Zelda but harder to even Demons Souls, it could work wonders.

Indeed, it's easy to see why it'd be boring too. Button smashing PLUS QTE does not make for a fun game for many people.

it's neither. i've tried to get into the series. god knows i have. but it always comes off as a mindless button mashing, a boring hack'n'slash. hell i've played quite a bit of GoW3 at my friend's, mostly because everyone but me were fans of the game and they wanted to beat it, but at one point i just passed the controller when it was my turn.

it doesn't help either that i find kratos obnoxious and characterless and that i've never been a fan of greek mythology.

and it's not that i don't like hack'n'slashes, it's just that GoW specifically does not appeal to me at all. i think it might have something to do with his weapon of choice too. ridiculous range and a fixed camera for combat takes away a lot of what i enjoy in action games.

God of War is pure unadulterated excitement! Saying that its boring isnt going to fool any one. It is a border line troll statement. The game is epic and fun! If God of War is boring then no game should be considered exciting. Anyway, God of War would be awesome with David Jaffe back at the helm. He's a gaming genius, but I also have no idea how making it a pure open world game would improve god of war's gameplay? GOW with an open world just doesn't sound right, and it could end up being a disaster, but then again if anyone could find a way to make it awesome it would probably be someone like David Jaffe Regardless, I don't care about open world this or cinematic gaming that, what is important is how the games mechanics are executed, because even an open world game can be disastrous and boring if not done right

first one i'd kill the hydra, step out of the boat and give up. and i've played the hydra part quite a few times, trying to get into it. second game i was at my cousin's, thought "well the way GoW2's begining was described sounds pretty cool actually, and it's supposedly an improvement... might as well check". i didn't even make it to the boss before turning off the PS2 and going back to Black.

I can understand why you wouldnt like the button mashing gameplay (although it does take some skill), but I do enjoy the series a lot. It is one of the few hack and slashes I really get into. If you played 1 for only an hour or so and put it down, I urge you to pick it back up and play more. The beginning of 1 is probably the worst part in the series.

game's more than a decade old, you don't need spoiler tags. plus last i checked, you don't need spoiler tags to describe what's so grim about majora's mask, and how it is about the end of the world and people's reactions to it *cough*thatkafeiquest*cough*, and how there are so many dead people in this game.

[QUOTE="BrunoBRS"][QUOTE="soulitane"][QUOTE="brofists"]God of War is pure unadulterated excitement! Who knows though, but if anyone could find a way its David Jaffe

I finished the first and couldn't even make it past halfway in the second before I got bored. I think you just need to accept other peoples opinions :)

first one i'd kill the hydra, step out of the boat and give up. and i've played the hydra part quite a few times, trying to get into it. second game i was at my cousin's, thought "well the way GoW2's begining was described sounds pretty cool actually, and it's supposedly an improvement... might as well check". i didn't even make it to the boss before turning off the PS2 and going back to Black.

I had to do that bit quite a few times as well, mainly because I'd start, stop playing for ages and forget what happened :P I also found black to be quite boring as well :P

[QUOTE="BrunoBRS"]

[QUOTE="brofists"] lol I'd say its bothNaveedLife

it's neither. i've tried to get into the series. god knows i have. but it always comes off as a mindless button mashing, a boring hack'n'slash. hell i've played quite a bit of GoW3 at my friend's, mostly because everyone but me were fans of the game and they wanted to beat it, but at one point i just passed the controller when it was my turn.

it doesn't help either that i find kratos obnoxious and characterless and that i've never been a fan of greek mythology.

and it's not that i don't like hack'n'slashes, it's just that GoW specifically does not appeal to me at all. i think it might have something to do with his weapon of choice too. ridiculous range and a fixed camera for combat takes away a lot of what i enjoy in action games.

I can understand why you wouldnt like the button mashing gameplay (although it does take some skill), but I do enjoy the series a lot. It is one of the few hack and slashes I really get into. If you played 1 for only an hour or so and put it down, I urge you to pick it back up and play more. The beginning of 1 is probably the worst part in the series.

like i said, i tried the beginning of 2 and played most of the latter part of 3, even going as far as being the one that actually killed the final boss, and it's still boring to me. it just lacks any depth or cinematic to its combat. you mash one button over and over while a panned out fixed camera shows the waves of enemies in the room getting hit by your ridiculous weapons. and no QTEs don't count as cinematic. you know those great angles you get to see when you lock-on in zelda? that's what i mean.

i found it very enjoyable, i just wish i could have paid more attention to the story, but i couldn't play it loud because of my grandma (funny story: she once watched me playing thinking it was the news  )

That's because Zelda works because it isn't gritty, it works because of its lovely charm. You take that away and the entire thing feels... off.
