"NowGamer: Dead Rising 2 will increase the amount of on-screen zombies in the original Dead Rising by a massive 6,500

During the first in-game demonstration of Dead Rising 2 in Monte Carlo last week, developer Blue Castle showed off new technology that allows them to power 7,000 rendered characters, the largest amount ever seen in a game.

"With Dead Rising 1 the main idea at Capcom time was that up until that point we had only the Resident Evil series that had 20-30 zombies..."

but im not really surprised, the original dead rising had thousands of zombies on screen too, it ran smooth 30 fps (better than GeoW and KZ2 most of the time), and it and LP are the only games this gen to have 4x AA, and even with all stuff going on the graphic were still amazing.

So? Is the frustrating save system slightly fixed? Are the zombies actually challenging? Why should I care about 7k zombies if there are Core mechanics of the original DR i didn't like?

And how will i notice 7k? Whats the point in that number? Seems like a dumb marketing ploy, i mean why do i need 7k? Wouldn't 500 be fine? I mean on my 27inch TV will i even see them, or just see little dots? I don't see the point, I can't see how it will help gameplay esspecially if it means they might have to sacrifice the zombies actually presenting a challenge for more on screen.

why couldn't you up the difficulty of manuevering past the zombies instead of adding thousands on screen you won't even need to deal with at any given time?

You have to be weary of statistical claims from games, while it's a impressive number it doesn't really tell you anything about how good the game is.

you cant kick around the bodies lol and if you kill someone on some steps, the zombie will just be hovering in midair instead of rolling down them.

Well, unless you count RTS or games like that, then yes that's a ton of characters on screen at once. It could be done fairly easily, at least in concept (just like how they did the first one, just with more poly-degradation with range).

How that'll be implemented in the gameplay, I have no idea. Dead Rising didn't need it at all. They rendered all the zombies they needed perfectly fine even in the maintenance tunnels.

Is this a confirmed feature in the game, or just the developer showing some cool hypothetical "what if" tech demo? That would be really cool if it actually made it into the game. Dead Rising 2 is one of my most hyped games. The first is a gen favorite for me!

No, afble 2 renders branches with leaves on them. Each tree has like 10 branches and there is like 100 trees, so 1000 branches. ooOoo vs 7000 individually rendered and animated characters with multiple textures, sounds, and animations... i think DR2 beats that (not dissing Fable 2 its a great game)

I was sure I read somewhere that the first could render up to 10k zombies at one time...O.o maybe not. Also, the most ever seen in a game? Is this including RTS's?

Nobody said you should care. Not every game will appeal to everybody. Many liked the original, and will probably like the sequel...if you don't like the game play RE or L4D or another horror game more suited to your tastes.

Which is why I'm glad there are a variety of gametypes to appeal to people with different tastes. I liked how DR worked once I got used to it.

agreed but has impressive slow downs with 20 hobbs onscreen cleverly masked by slow motion now 7000 fully animate ai will be just stupid. immagine how may will glitch. just look at what LOTR had to contend with when creating an engine to run it battle sequences.
