You need to play a game to know its genre? Dead Space was an action game, and all media released for Dead Space 2 shows it's also an action game like its predecessor.
dead space was survival horror
Amnesia is the scariest game I have played in years. Dead Space 1 was not scary at all. Dead Space 2 will be less scary.

Dead Space was a Survival-Action game. I liked the game a lot, but it was not even close to a horror experience as Amnesia: The Dark Descent was. I doubt Dead Space 2 will change my opinion, since the developers are aiming to make it even more action oriented than the first. To be fair, Dead Space had its share of "true" horror moments (the audio recordings, psychotic survivors, Mercer's office, etc.)Obviously Amnesia. Being you know... an actual horror game. Not a gore-ror game.

dark descent is scary as hell. i have exams next week so i can't play it too much, but i can't wait to beat it. looking forward to dead space 2 though. loved dead space. wasn't scary at all though.

Dead Space was more intense than it was scary. It was about making you jump, not actually scarying the hell out of you to the point you didn't want to carry on playing it.
Dead Space 2 looks amazing but it also looks more action based than the first, so i think Amnesia wins on the scare factor.
Amnesia SAGE_OF_FIREI want to play that game so bad but I'm still on Penumbra Black Plague right now.

But it's nice to play a game before you start making accusations since you have not played it.[QUOTE="Slashkice"][QUOTE="Animal-Mother"]Glad to see we've all played it. can you send me your copy?Animal-Mother

I think in its reveal they stated how they are going to have a bigger action focus.Horror is when you are dropped in a creepy place alone and armed to the teeth. As you travel things will jump out at you and you will gasp, right before you decimate it with your rocket launcher, beam cannon, anti armor rifle, etc.

I have a question for all of you who think Dead space isn't horror.
What is horror exactly?
Animal-Mother
Play Amnesia. In a nutshell, the difference between horror and action is that in horror you feel completely helpless. Also the thing you are up against is much, much, much bigger then you. In Dead Space, you have weapons that you can defend yourself. There is plenty of ammo and you feel you have a chance against the enemy. In Amneisa, you have no weapons. The creatures you are up against are scary as hell, faster and stronger then you. If you try to run from them, you have to hide, otherwise your dead. You never feel safe in Amnesia. The enviroment itself is gripping at you and making it very uneasy just to continue in the level. I've heard people need to take a break every now and then from playing Amnesia simply because it's always, ALWAYS pushing down on you in terms of atmosphere. You will never find that in Dead Space. If people think Dead Space is scary, tell them to try Amneisa. They won't last 30 minutes. I guarantee it.
In Summary. Horror is is a combination of feeling helpless, with a completely dreadful and unforgiving atmosphere with creatures and monsters that you need to avoid because they are faster and stronger then you. You never feel safe in a horror game. The closest game that felt like Amneisa to me was Silent Hill 1.

He knows that. It's sarcasm. He is purposely contradicting himself to make a point about the horror level of Dead Space compared to Amnesia.
I think Dead Space is being mis-represented here; while its not scary it is an excellent game. Its incredibly tense and atmospheric, and has some of the best sound design i know of.
Some people will confuse tension with horror, which is understandable since they are similar emotions. DS is all about staying calm enough to deal with the threats at hand and aiming carefully, which creates a ton of tension because if you screw up you will be brutally attacked from all sides.
As others have said, Amnesia is one of the few true 'horror' games out there because you are totally helpless and all threats - real or perceived - are enough to make your brain tell you to GET THE **** OUT OF THERE even if its nothing but some ambient noise. Forcing yourself to continue when your emotions are telling you to either quit or turn around and flee makes playing the game very difficult at times.

But it's nice to play a game before you start making accusations since you have not played it.He has point though.. in Dead Space you use weapons to shoot off the limbs of the enemies..that's the main mechanic.. that's why its considered an action game.. Amnesia on the other hand..you have no weapons whatsoever.. its a true survival horror game when compared to Dead SpaceBoth are survival horror games, but they belong into different genres. Dead Space is action game, while Amnesia is adventure. Which wll be scarier? Amnesia by far. It fully concenrates on horror and forces you to play like a prey instead of hunter, which further enchances the scariness.

Glad you can read people's minds. I can't,want to teach me?I do find his ability to know exactly what I mean interesting, and scary. GET.....OUT.....OF.....MY.....HEAD!!!!!
[QUOTE="Slashkice"]Glad to see we've all played it. can you send me your copy? Well it wasn't like the first Dead Space was scary and even a survival horror title.Dead Space 2 is an action game, so Amnesia wins this battle by default.

I found Amnesia boring, and not even that scary, so DS2 for me. Even if it isnt the "scarier" game at least it was fun to play
