Dead Space owns, but RE5 is in another league. Still I believe that RE5 wont be scarier than Dead Space.

Dead Space has more horror elements than RE5 (and more survival elements too, although they skimped on that massively), but neither one looks better than the other at this point. Dead Space seems to nail the atmosphere perfectly, giving off that Event Horizon vibe, while RE5 just seems to be hitting the same notes RE4 hit 4 years ago. We'll have to see when RE5 is released.

Dead Space's gameplay was a complete rip off of Res4. Yet it was still worse. It's weapon systems was awful, and the upgrades were even worse. There was absolutely nothing unique about that game. They took the gamaplay from Res4, and the story from Alien and The Thing. The demo of Res 5 alone showed off the superior gameplay, aiming, weapon system and of course the Co-op. I'll take realistic weapons over pew pew space guns any day. They even made a game based on The Thing, and it has the same creatures and scenarios. Just with last gen power. Dead Space is like the True Crime or Saint's Row of the sandbox genre, while Res4 and 5 are the real deal GTA series.

Re4= 20+ HRs of gameplay

Re5 might top that

and no i'm praising RE5, but if i was gonna spend $60 on a game between DS/RE5, i'll go for the game with more gameplay content

Dead space will be hard to beat in my book. More than just gameplay...the atmosphere was terrific. Without the scare factor...RE5 will be hurting in comparison.

VoodooHak, I played through Dead Space twice. On Normal and Hard. Add me as a Friend (Actually don't) to see the trophies to prove it. If Res4 wasn't such a superior game, I'd feel different. Instead Dead Space feels like another Cold Fear. I traded DS in the moment I finished my 2nd play through.

I was looking at your 360 record. My bad.

In terms of Dead Space, I think it succeeds more as a horror game. It creates a more palpable sense of dread then RE4 did. In fact, RE4's pacing and atmosphere made it feel like more of an action/shooter than a horror game.

Heck, I think Condemned (the first on only) did a better job at eerie atmospherics and tension than RE4.

After watching some videos of RE5 I'm a bit worried. The gameplay looks rather simplistic, just like Dead Space's and RE4's, and the graphics/atmosphere are disappointing. I can only hope the new team knows what they're doing with the RE storyline, if it's anything like RE4 I'm not going to be pleased.

I would also like there to be some survival-horror elements but I'm sure by now we all know those are devoid from the now nearly TPS RE5. :P

Umm I would personally take Dead Space any day,(please excuse my ignorance because i haven't played RE5) but judging from the videos, no game this gen will be able to match the unique horrific experience that is Dead Space.... until Dead SPace 2 of course :]

Well I've only played the RE5 demo, but judging just by that... I would have to give it to RE5. Deadspace was an awesome game but the RE5 demo blew me away! I'm so glad I managed to get it before the region locked it. I play it once a day at least!

I think that RE 4 was one of the greatest games last gen. I'm currently on my 2nd play through of DS, and can say it's one of the greatest games I've played this gen (I'd say it's the best game since the first Gears). They are both third person, control similar, and have similar elements. And they are both amazing. As for DS "copying" RE4, sure. In that it's a third person game where you get better stuff as you play to beat tougher enemies. In that same logic, COD 4 and Crysis suck because they basically copied the original Doom. C'mon guys. Don't hide with the "copy" whining. Call DS the amazing game it is, and give due credit to RE 4 for being so innovative. RE 5 I have not yet played (haven't downloaded the demo yet...I'll buy when it's out because I'm sure it'll be awesome) but I am sure it will be a phenomonal game. It looks like RE5 will have more of a shooting/action orientation, as per the number of enemies, where as DS was more of a traditional survival/horror game because you don't see large groups of guys all the time. Regardless of controls and camera being similar.

Enjoyed the RE 5 demo more than I enjoyed the 4 hours I spent with Dead Space. I have a strong feeling RE5 will be better to me imo.

Dead Space, just because RE5 looks like gears of war, but with worthless controlls. Nothing about it seems scary; it's all graphics and action.

Sorry RE5 will pwn Dead Space with it's coop alone. Dead Space was cute but Issac has nothing on Chris Red field. Maybe the sequel will be better.

Resident Evil 5 will own it though....

Sorry, but RE5 will not even remotely come close to Left 4 Dead as far as co-op is concerned, and the gameplay, pacing, level structuring, game mechanics, physics, AI is either outdated or not up to the current standards. Co-op offline has horrible split-screen. I haven't played it online, and now it's impossible in the demo with Microsoft restrictions. Plus the most importantly the game lacks any identity and atmosphere, at least basing on the demo.

1. their no slpit screen when playing online co op 2. RE5 split screen >>>> L4D 4 player split screen 3. RE5 will easily outperforms L4D in graphics and gameplay, co op we'll have to see 4. Re5 will easily score higher than L4D 8.5 flop

1. What does that have to do with anything 2. L4D only has 2 player splitscreen, which can be horizontal or vertical 3. RE5 will never reach L4D's level of coop bliss. It won't happen, don't wait to see. 4. RE5 might score better, but it won't be better, and an 8.5 is good. That's right. L4D > RE5. :)

Why do Resident Evil fanboys can't really even criticise Dead Space properly? If the story, or at least the narration devices and other concepts from the plot were ripped of from anything, it was System Shock 2 first and foremost. I wonder how many RE4 fanboys played that game... I guess none, because I never heard such critique from them. And how Resident Evil 5 demo with its backwards gameplay could be superior is beyond me...

I've only played RE4 and RE2, but I thought Dead Space was repetitive, and lame in a lot of spaces. I really liked 2 things though. The gravity-less sections and the User Interface were great. I hated the meteor storm. It was really pretty. But, in the end, the main problem is, it wasn't compelling.

In terms of horror, Dead Space. But so far, RE5 looks to be just like RE4 (which gave me lots of memories :D). I think RE5 is going to win; offline co-op is incredible.

Dead space is better than resident evil 4.

It took the formula and made more and provided a great experience and a great new story altogether.
No one can deny that dead space is more 'scarier' than re4 provides.

Most people are still die hard resident evil fans, hence the majority will choose resident evil over dead space.

Resident evil 5 feels too smiliar to 4 but the co-op aspect will make it a worthy contender.

Overall, i loved resident evil, but right now, i prefer dead space.

Resi5 will get a higher score than Dead Space . As much as I love dead space, it is a bit repetitive and has a boring storyline . I loved the weapons though (how can you critisize such original and cool weapons !!! ) and the fact that you're an engineer . The interface was very good and it had excellent controls, yes, even better than resi 4 controls . However, comparing both is a bit unfair, as Resi has a rich history and Dead Space is a newcomer .

For me personally dead Space was THE sleeper hit of 2008 .
