Dear Lems, Explain your Titan Fall praise.

What exactly is TitanFall doing that's new? What is it doing that CoD, StarHawk, WarHawk, MAG, Gundam, and other games haven't done. I'm not asking to troll but I actually sincerely want to know. I seriously don't get it. And I don't think I'm the only one who shares in the confusion.

That first gameplay reveal offered a futuristic look at Mech combat, but seemed to share DNA with Activision’s reigning king of online multiplayer. But according to the developer, looks can be deceiving.

Speaking with OXM, Respawn’s Community Manager Abbie Heppe gives her firsthand impressions of what happens when players jump into Titanfall as if it were any standard shooter on the market:

“I still watch everybody come in and play it like they’re playing a less vertical shooter… They come in, they hide behind cover, they pop out and shoot a dude, they run for the next cover. When we play we’re immediately on the walls and roofs, running around like crazy."

“You have to break people in a bit… And then I see them jump into a wall and they’re like ‘oh, I just ran along it’ – and by the end of the match they’re going crazy and playing more like how I would play.

“Even if you tell them, ‘No no no, you should do this’, it takes them doing it themselves to realise that – ‘oh, you really can! Even after seeing the trailers and the gameplay videos we’ve released, you’d think [people would know], but it’s about breaking people out of how they’ve always been playing.”

“I see people walk down the corridors. And it’s like: ‘You’re going to get run over by a Titan. I mean, he’s going to stomp on you if you keep doing that.’ So you want to get in the paths, in the buildings, on the routes the designers have left for you.”

“You’ll say ‘Oh I love playing with the R1 Sidewinder, I love playing with the Smart Pistol’ – and then you build out from there. You’re not going to have an overwhelming amount with you on the battlefield, it’s about keeping the things that you love, the loadout that you want to play, and making it so that you can try everything.”

looks good to everyone without cow goggles, since they're the oddballs on that one they should have to explain why they don't think it looks good

I'm not a lemming but the game just looks fun. Plus that type of game looks perfect for PC where speed and precision is everything.

The game just looks damn fun, that's it and Mechs are ALWAYS cool. ALWAYS!!

Going PS4 (been PS3 last Gen) but it looks fun so picked up a second hand £50.00 360 to play it on.

Yeah, the game does look like pure fun. But I'm wondering if I should get Titanfall or wait for the BF4 premium edition, because I only want to focus on one MP shooter.

COD, Battlefield, etc. are all XY games. True, there are buildings you can go into, helicopters you can pilot, but essentially they are XY axis games.

TitanFall is an XYZ axis game. Players are flying around in jet packs, climbing walls, etc. The Z axis is not the exception or gimmick, it is the norm. That's never really been done before. And, the game play changes based on what you want to do in battles. No "perk" is going to do that in CoD.

It's like they played Halo: Reach,Halo 4, Call of Duty, and MechWarrior; then thought "Hey, what would happen if we made a game that tightly integrated something like the jet pack armor in Halo with game play? Ya know, taking it beyond a gimmick and making it integral to the game play? What if we then added the best of old school games like MechWarrior and let our players hop into mechs? What if we then took all that, and made the game play as fast paced as something like Call of Duty?"

I guess, if you want to say "that has been done before", then you could say something like: "TitanFall looks like a cross between a modern FPS and MechAssault 2", you'd have a superficial, but valid, argument. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=caiIamHIzBY

be in an first person shooter and not suck. You're asking what it's doing that is so different when the answer is pretty clear

The gameplay looks very solid, quick, and responsive for a game of that nature.

I'm pretty bummed out about it not having single player though and will probably wait until reviews.

I absolutely hate when people say stuff like this. "What does this game do that all these other separate games don't already do?" Well gee, maybe it's combining good elements from all those individual properties into a single game that looks like a shit ton of fun?

You can make any game sound boring or unoriginal by breaking it down into it's parts and influences, "What's so special about The Last of Us, it's just The Road meets Uncharted, snooze, boring!" If you're not excited for Titanfall that's fine but acting like it's is just a rip off of a bunch of different things with no thought put into it is ridiculous.

I don't think it looks like a bad game, I just fail to see anything "revolutionary" here. What, so I can jump in a mech suit from time to time and run up walls? Whoopty shit.

Hell, the game doesn't even feature a single player campaign to play through, which tells me there is absolutely ZERO chance to experience a decent storyline or somewhat interesting characters.

The only games in the FPS genre that seeming have any originality to them is the Bioshock series.

I honestly couldn't care less about games like CoD, Battlefield, etc.

It's just the same old shit. Run around the same handful of tiny ass levels while you shoot at the first opposing player to run across the screen. I just find it extremely repetitive and boring.

Speaking as a gamer, who loves great games, any game that won that many awards and garnered that much hype following e3 including several major game of show awards, deserves to be on EVERY gamers radar. I feel bad for the fanboys who would deny a games potential based on the piece of plastic it runs on... Shouldn't we be asking cows to state a legit reason why they're acting like children over a game that has garnered so much positive press and excitement... Tis a sad behavior.

That's not something it's doing different. And it's multi-player only. And if it scores lower than expected like Ryse did, then you've got nothing. So praise it when it scores high and boast about it when it's actually something to boast about.

i don't get the hype at all, personally i think the hype it gets is very overrated. There are other games that i think look way better like Destiny

or the reason why lems praise it so high

It's like tribes, hawken, and 2142 rolled into one (to me atleast); those games rock so why not praise something similar. ...bu bu bu cod with mechs, well yeah, i love cod and i love mechs. Not a lem btw.

I'd say it depends on your style. Both have VERY different styles of gameplay.

Are you more tactically minded and enjoy a slower overall pace

or are you more of the CoD mindset where you get a lot of kills and have more of a speed driven gameplay atmosphere

Tactical and teamplay above all else. But taking control over a mech looks way cooler than all the vehicles in BF.

I'd really like to play a demo of Titanfall if they ever make one, it looks great but am not 100% convinced yet. On the other hand I know exactly how BF4 plays by playing all the older ones and the beta.

I still don't hage an aswer to my question. What does it do differently from other games? Because for every factor given there has been previous games that have done it and those games did it quite well so what exactly new does it bring to the table? Yes, I'm aware of the awards and the press attention but that doesn't answer my questions.

that's it. never said it recreates the wheel. TLOU didn't do anything I hadn't done before over the years but it was fun. Titanfall looks like a lot of fun.

I hope for a Titanfall beta too.

If that game is as successful as its hyped we'd have to worry about dumb developers tacking on stupid mechs and wall climbing elements on games that have no business having stupid mechs and wall climbing, just so they can tap into the dumb trend demographic.
