Yeah we know. Thats why most of us never play Smash bros. games for their single player. It's multiplayer is where the meat of the game is at.

And those who enjoy No More Heroes played it for the great story being presented. So there.

So we both (fanbases) enjoy the games for diffreren't reasons. It appears that we are at an impass.

Brawl=Melee 1.5

NMH=brand new original fun IP

Which one deserves GOTY? A slightly upgraded version of a game we have already played to death or something new and unique?
starwarsgeek112

Same can be said about almost every sequel that got GOTY awards....so that argument is invalid.

No More Heroes rightfully deserved Wii GOTY, and the highly overrated Super Smash Bros. Brawl did not. Congratulations, No More Heroes. majadamus

No More Heroes is the kind of Wii game you buy just because it's only $20 and you want to see what everyone is talking about. There are three ultimate Wii games that everyone should own. They are Mario, Metroid, and Zelda.

So, do any of you have an actual reason why Brawl shouldn't have beaten NMH?

I'd be interested in hearing it.

So, do Brawl fans admit that the Smash Bros series is basically Nintendo's Madden, just with bigger gaps in release? The thing is, Madden is a great series, and so is Brawl - but picking either as GOTY... Why not give it to something new, rather than give it to something that has been done before, but has a new paintjob and a few new bells and whistles this time around?

No, we don't admit that. There's more new additions in Brawl than any other sequel that didn't completely reinvent the series. But apparently, that's not enough.

Brawl is like Madden? Well let's see, there's been one on N64, one on Gamecube and one on the Wii. The N64 game had about 12 characters, don't know how many stages (about the same mabye?) and terrible graphics by todays standards. The Gamecube game had about 24 characters, again can't remember the number of stages and decent graphics/below average graphics by todays standards. The Wii game had more characters still, more stages still and significantly better graphics, a new online component, a whole new adventure mode (Nothing like the one in Melee) and is the third in the series. How does that compare to the diffrence between a sports title of the same series from 06 and 07? Brawl has standard progression for fighting games. Going by that rule mabye we should say SF4 is Capcoms madden? I don't think so.

I wonder be siding with the Super Smash Bros. Brawl side however the online play was where I drew the line, besides that everything else I loved about the game was just as I expected, however with online as laggy as that, it completely ruined much of the appeal I had built up since I don't live anywhere near my friends anymore and I hoped for some great online matches like we used to have. However since its online side of it was botched and I've really got no one else around here I play with, after beating it and unlocking just about everything, I set it aside and mess with it every so often.

In the end, No More Heroes easily took it from Smash Bros because of the failed online, hell Mario Kart Wii should have been a better choice than Smash Bros, except they messed up the system and uped it to 12 racers and made it so even if you win online, you can still lose exp, awesome.

I love SSBB. I actually like it more than No More Heroes. However, I think NMH deserves GOTY simply because NMH is a stand-alone game, whereas Brawl's greatness should be measured by subtracting the greatness that was SSBM.

While I haven't play NMH, I am glad that SSBB didn't win. It was a very fun game, but it felt a little slower then melee, The Subspace Emissary was lame, and the online multiplayer sucks. Out of the nominees besides NMH, World of Goo was the best of them IMO.

BRAWL > NMH This is the biggest fail by GS ever! NMH is/has: -ugly, it looks like a PS1 or N64 game -horrible aliasing problems, not even Madden 08 looked this bad on my HDTV -short, only 15 hours and has NO replay value -choppy frame rate issues, how can a game that looks this simple have this problem?! -sloppy controls -piss poor, choppy animations -in the bargain bin at every store for $20 at THE MOST -poor sales for a reason -budget basement presentation I own this game and trust me it's BAD! I'd like to sell it but my friends don't even want to give me $10 for this pile of junk and neither does Gamestop (got offered $5).

What's it matter anyway? You're delusional. If NMH didn't win the award, then it would have been World of Goo (like at IGN). Let's face it: Brawl got old fast. It lacked depth (Collecting useless crap and a poor level designer don't count as depth) and innovation, NMH is the only reason I will be playing my Wii again before Punch-Out!! (haven't played it since two weeks after Brawl's release).

Yeah we know. Thats why most of us never play Smash bros. games for their single player. It's multiplayer is where the meat of the game is at.

And yet the online was slow, laggy, and without voice communications. Not to mention the friends codes bull. I can't help but say that you get what you pay for. The twenty extra dollars for a 360 Pro Model is more than worth it--and I'm an owner of both.

Some people have real life friends and don't have to play with random people online. Brawl's online was disappointing but in no way does that take away that fact that it's one of the most refined games released this year; Brawl looks beautiful and can keep 60fps LOCKED with constant action, NMH can't even stay stable (just an example). Not to mention it's unlimited replay value, NMH is shorter than Brawls single player mode. NMH lacks refinement in nearly every area and feels like a cheap cash-in compared to Brawl, at least that's my 2 cents. I'm still kicking myself for blowing $30 on a game I will never enjoy. Sorry but Brawl, Mario Kart, De Blob or Animal Crossing would of all been more worthy candidates for Wii GOTY.

BASIC SUMMARY OF POSTS SO FAR: I'm right, you're wrong. Brawl, you may have lost, baby, but you're the best Wii game I've ever played, an NOBODY, not even these blasphemous NMH fans, can take that away! We are comparing lemonade to urine here.

I didn't buy it for the online either. I for one just fight computers and make ridiculous stages when my friends aren't at my house.

It lacked depth? That's a new one, especially since GameSpot's review says the game is overloaded with new content that will keep you playing for a loooooong time. Brawl is a sequel, but it feels like a totally different game. People can cry "LOL MELEE 1.5", but in terms of new content, characters, and the smash ball, this is really THE next-gen version of Super Smash Bros., not to mention Brawl is BY FAR the best looking Wii game ever.

1. New characters and stages =/= new game.

2. Super Mario Galaxy is the best-looking Wii game.

Simple reason. NMH is a Wii unique game, where as Brawl could have been done on other platforms in a better way.

No. Most Nintendo fans understand what makes a great game. Broken controls, bad graphics, glitches and bugs, repetitive game, no replay value, and only 10 hours of gameplay do not make a good game. Sorry No More Heroes. It doesn't matter anyway, because De Blob, World of Goo, and Mega Man 9 were better than both of these games.

Sorry No More Heroes. It doesn't matter anyway, because De Blob, World of Goo, and Mega Man 9 were better than both of these games.

You do know that you just described Zelda: TP?

No More Heroes is easily the best game on the Wii in 2008 so please get over the fact that a Nintendo game didn't won.

It's not like SSBB is anywhere close perfection either. Broken online, dumbed down controls and moves, yet more clones, incredibly boring and dull singleplayer.

Have you played either of Zelda TP or Smash Bros? None of those phrases would describe either of those two games.

I own all three of these games and neither of them are close to those phrases.

No more Heroes isn't any more buggy or broken than those two games.

Does No More Heroes have problems? Yes but not any bigger than SSBB or Z:TP.

NMH bad graphics? I love how the game looks. Its an artstyle. I guess MM9 has bad graphics too. Broken controls game worked fine for me. Glitches and bugs? WTH are you talking about and dont say the bike parts cause thats not a big problem. Every game in its core is repetitive. MM9 all you do is jump and shoot NMh you just slash. NMH was just the right lenght not to long and not to short. I agree there not much replay value, but not all great games need to have this.

Does not understand. How can the controls be dumbed down when they didn't change the controls, and how does Brawl have more clones when it actually has less clones, and those clones play much differently now?

[QUOTE="PapaJohn24"]What's it matter anyway? You're delusional. If NMH didn't win the award, then it would have been World of Goo (like at IGN). Let's face it: Brawl got old fast. It lacked depth (Collecting useless crap and a poor level designer don't count as depth) and innovation, NMH is the only reason I will be playing my Wii again before Punch-Out!! (haven't played it since two weeks after Brawl's release).princeofshapeir

Wow. How short-sighted. The review came out the same week as the game. How can you tell depth from features? You can't. Ask the reviewer a month later if he would say it still had depth, and you would assuredly get a different answer. And don't get me started on the Subspace Emissary. It was a waste of time that served only as an excuse to unlock the characters and stages. No one in their right mind would play it over again. It was boring and slow. The time wasted on the singleplayer could have been better spent on more stages and a real level editor.

NHM is definitely a great game! HOWEVER... I don't think it's better than SSBB. That's just my opinion though.

Both games are GOTY worthy.

[QUOTE="umcommon"][QUOTE="PapaJohn24"][QUOTE="Shinobishyguy"] Yeah we know.

Why do people on online forums feel the need to post in such a derogatory way? Why is it assumed that I have no real life friends because I prefer Xbox Live? Those of my friends who do play video games prefer more adult content like Halo--a game that is excellent in local multiplayer. To continue, as you get older you'll find that many people get distanced by university--as such, when I play online, I am able to play with many people across the country with ease. Not to mention the experience is much more personal--with the ability to communicate and with everyone having avatars and names, not random digits.
