Deathloop won't be coming to Xbox until at least September 2022

Deathloop is due out on PS5 and PC on 14th September 2021, so it has a year of PS5 exclusivity.

We already knew the game was a timed console exclusive, based on trailers released in June last year.

Arkane is in the curious situation of releasing a PS5 console exclusive for Sony while being owned by Xbox maker Microsoft.

Sony secured console exclusivity for Deathloop and fellow Bethesda-published game GhostWire: Tokyo well before Microsoft finalised its $7.5bn deal to acquire ZeniMax Media.

"Excited for everyone to see the great work the from the team @ArkaneStudios on @deathloop," tweeted Xbox boss Phil Spencer ahead of Sony's State of Play broadcast.

It's worth noting Deathloop's year-long PS5 console exclusivity doesn't mean the game will launch on Xbox Series X and S on 15th September 2022. But it seems reasonable to expect the game to hit Xbox around then, given the developer is owned by Microsoft. It's also reasonable to expect Deathloop will launch into Xbox Game Pass.

Presumably it's a similar deal for Tango Gameworks' GhostWire: Tokyo, which is due out in October this year.

Nope. this was Bethesda deal before Microsoft purchase. beside its still coming out on PC so don't care.

Well yeah, it was announced for PS5 before the acquisition was even a thing. Phil Spencer is honoring the contract with Sony to let them have first dibs on it then it will come to Xbox Series X later. The funny thing is, Deathloop will be MS first game to be released for PS5 with the MS logo on it😉

But yes, it's still coming to PC and that's all that matters in the end.

Whoever sold Bethesda timed it pefectly. Not a single game coming out in the forseeable future except for this Sony exclusive. MS were conned!

ROFLMAO! TC is hyping a MS game and more importantly a gamey-game at that. Still stressed by Bethesda acquisition.

Since it's coming out for PC as well, I wonder if the contract allows Microsoft to release it on the Windows Store on PC Game Pass with full Xbox support. And then the second the exclusivity period expires, they just flip the switch to make it available on console and cloud as well.

if it is "console exclusive" I dont see why they cant release in on GP for PC and cloud day 1 (unless the contract states no gamepass which we have seen Sony ask for in other exclusivity deals)

What I am curious about , since it will be on PC, will it be available for Game Pass on PC at launch?

Old news. That being said, the situation has me thinking that Microsoft might try to sweeten the deal when it does come to the Xbox. And considering they own Arkane now, the options are limitless.

My bet? An Xbox/PC exclusive DLC that will absolutely never land on the PlayStation.

These contracts have exit clauses and "kill fees". If Microsoft felt pressed enough about this game, or Ghostwire Tokyo, they could "kill" the PlayStation exclusivity deal at any time by just paying the pre-arranged "kill fee". The fact that they have not speaks volumes.

Yeah Prey was fantastic. That was Arkane Austin who is working on Redfall. So I am very excited about that.

Deathloop is the Lyon studio.

We've seen that with games that released on both XB and PS consoles simultaneously but have PS marketing deals. But not sure yet if this has been the case for timed exclusivity deals. The Game Pass clause also didn't so much restrict it but instead gave Sony a chance to match any bid for a GP deal but that clause might not be applicable anymore as it's a first party game now, there is no bid, the company has already been sold to MS.

That said. Doubtful they'll do anything tricky, but in console war scheme of things it'd be a sick burn to offer game on GP at same time it releases on PS5.

And someone else said here there should be a kill deal payout and MS hasn't so it would be curious as to why, but I'd like to think you can't put a price on a sick burn.

Am I right in thinking that money from PS4/5 sales of deathloop, psychonauts 2 and ghostwire will go to Microsoft?

Lemmings will get the superior Director's Cut a year later. For free on gamepass. Big Baller Cows will pay the Lemming King this year and then again next year for the upgrade.

Renting isn't really comparable to a GP sub.

Renting requires going to and fro a rental place, or waiting days for the mail to send/return a physical disc. GP downloads are almost instant, depending on your internet.

So MS are honouring the past deals, as announced last year... Not sure why this is still in discussion.

I'm a PC gamer, even I can say I'm starting to lose interest on Deathloop myself and this is coming from a guy who likes Arkane. The latest gameplay trailer made me lose interest and to tell you the truth, I'm actually more interest in RedFall due to killing vampires and its been so long we had any vampires that involves killing them so I'm going with RedFall. Deathloop is really Dishonored with MP tact-on.

I've strangely came across several YT videos lately from prominent YTers who have said they're not hyped for this game. It just doesn't look special, doesn't look like a hit. I agree, but we'll see what happens when it comes out. If I get it it'll probably be in a few years at a bargain bin price.

Deathloop is primarily single player shooter.
