Debate: It is Sony's right to be No. 1 ?

Ok, I keep seeing a lot of posts from cows hating on microsoft for even being in the console war!

I hear things like "ps3 will be back on top where it belongs!" and "m$ have messed up console gaming" and my favourite was "it was fine when it was Nintendo Vs Sony"

Microsoft has every right to be in the console market as long as consumers buy their products. It's what we call a free market economy! Heck, even I have the right to bring out a Dazzer7 machine if I wanted. It would probably fail (although I might get 1 or 2 devout fanboys lol). This is how business goes. Anyone can do business. You only deserve to stay in business if you're any good! Get too cocky and....

Which kind of brings me nicely round to people believing its Sony's god-given right to be at the top of the market. Well, it's not their right. You have to earn it.

Does anyone remember when Sony said "next gen doesnt start until we say it does!" Well thats fine. It is absolutely fine aslong as you can hold on to market share and continue to offer an unrivalled experience. So far this is just not so and many would agree. Microsoft has come along and offered something cheaper, as good as if not better and offered it sooner! As a result, they have gained significant market share from Sony.

Nintendo have done even better. At the latter end of last gen, I really believed that Nintendo would follow their former adversary Sega into the 'software only' market! Nintendo got angry! They took some risks and now look! Whether its good or bad for the industry is debatable. I think it is good as I feel Ninty broadened themarket! But no one can deny their success.

Anyway. I am open to debate on this topic. Who disagrees with me andbelieves Sony deserve to be at the top?

Nobody has the right to be #1 and the person on top will always be bashed the most.

Being Number 1 is a privelage, not a right. And that privelage is given to the console that does the best job of offeringthe widest possible audiencewhat they want, and one way or the other, like it or not, the Wii has done that.

Sony seem to think they have the right to be number 1, half of them probably think they are already... too many mistakes so far this time round (huge price, no rumble, years delay (16 months in Europe), very few worthwhile games and way too much arrogance over the whole situation) and they've got some catching up to do.

Its obvious Nintendo has the right to be number one this gen. The crapstation 3 and crapbox 360 dont have anything on the awesome power of Nintendo. All the M$ has is halo and race games and sony has nothing :lol:. Nintendo has good games, original games and the best controls.

I love it when people make up arguments that otherpeople supposedly say then shoot down said argument its a verypopular thing foir MS fans to do. I have never evert seen anybody on this boar say its sony's right to be on top peop[le have given their opinion on why they feel sony will do better or should be doing better or that they even may win this gen but nobdy has ever and I mean EVER said that. Its a ridiculous argument and its even more reiculous you made a a post to debunk the argument that I have seen nobody make.

MS offers a better game selecting right now because it has been out a year longer the console sales are very close when you comapre the consoles at similar points in their lofespan year on year when you compare these things and the fact that sony has stronger support oustside the US and has yet to see any of its big franchises hit so far its been pretty much new ip this year for sony while the MGS, tekken, final fantasy have yet to launch while MS biggest selling game halo is already out. Combining these factors it is quite reasonable to assume that sony will pass MS at some point this gen sooner or later but it is still just a prediction which is all I have seen by people on this board nobody claimed itwas sony's right.

Nintendo has given us a console with a much different experiece at a cheaper price and are reaping the rewards of catering to the casual market while still releasing the software that will satisfy their longtime fans and hardcore gamers. Right now I cannot see nintendo being caught this gen but depending on how quick sony is able to bring the ps3 down in price and get the right software out is could possible make a late surge and make it interesting at least but as far as I amconcerned ninteno will be very hard to beat this gen and I don't even have a wii only a ps3.

They have the right to compete as any person and/or company does for the number spot.

And they still haven't corrected the price (still the most expensive), the lack of rumble (apart from Japan) and the lack of any serious games (a few AA titles, but nothing makorly inspiring)... or were you too blinded by fanboy loyalty to notice?

I was perfectly happy with Nintendo VS Sony. All MS has taught Sony is how to control the online support. Even though Sony is slowly catching on they are at least still free. MS forced Sony into being the graphics king costing them lots of money as well, with the shame of the Xbox supporting better graphics then the PS2.
