This is NOT an anti-PC thread (no it isn't! get off that reply button!) it is simply setting a few records straight. I game on PC and console.
1> You can build a gaming rig for 500 bucks....
Yes ofc you can. No one could ever deny it. No-one would ever do it either. Lets be sensible - those who have made the choice to game on PC's do it mainly as they are perfectionists andenjoy the challenge of building the best rig they can. Its kind of like a car enthusiast *choosing* to buy a bog standard 2 door hatchback.
2> PC gamershave more money than console gamers....
Not really no. PC gamers *choose* to spend more of their disposable income of PC gaming is all.
3> PC gamers are more intelligent and mature than console gamers....
No, they're about the same. Anyone who plays MMO's only has to go into ANY warcraft realm and sit in their main city. They will see racism, homophobia, elitism, harrassment and griefing. This holds true for most online games on any platform. EvE online in particular has a cited average player age of 21, and yet still has peurile asinine behaviour all day long - and so does Call of Duty.
4> PCs are easy to use and have very few problems....
For the fortunate ones, this is true. However is simply cannot be denied - there are thousands of tech help websites across the internet, with entire forums dedicated to one particular brand of graphics card or version of windows. Warcraft itself has 1427 PAGES of tech help forum, with 1022 PAGES of bug report forums.
No-one can deny also the embarrassing failure rate of launch xbox 360s, quoted by some as high as 50%, but saying PCs don't have problems is delusional at best.
5> PC game development is held back by console technology limitations....
Yes of course it is, again this cannot be denied. However this is looking at it from one very biased angle. As technology advances, so does the development costs of video games - as it does in the film industry too. Games back in the 8 bit era could be written by someone in their bedroom. Games today need upwards of 3 or more years, and teams of nearly 100 people including graphic artists, sound engineers, community development, advertising etc. The costs today are staggering. It's quoted at current gen anywhere between 10-50 MILLION to develop a AAA title. Costs next gen are set to double.
I'll leave it there, but if anyone wants to reply, please take note that I kept it civil and neutral, so please do the same.
