Let us try to stick to numbers sold.. not the price of the consoles or the deals that were offered. There are plenty of threads on that matter. We can use the K format.

Overall:

Overall retail sales were up 1% year over year.

Hardware sales were up 20% year over year.

Retail software sales were down 13% year over year.

Software:

-Xbox One also sold more games throughout November and December in the U.S. than any other current-generation platform.

-Mario Kart 8 LTD: 1.7 million (physical + digital)

-Super Smash Bros Wii U: 1.3 million (physical + digital)

-Super Smash Bros 3DS: 2 million (physical + digital)

-Pokemon ORAS: 2.6 million (physical + digital)

-In 2014, 16 Nintendo 3DS titles sold at least 250,000 units. Of those titles, eight sold more than 500,000 units and three sold over 1 million units.

-In 2014, the top 15 best-selling hand-held titles were all released on the Nintendo 3DS family of systems.

PS4/XB1 Combined: Around 2.33 million based on Note 3 below.

Notes:

Wii U established new benchmarks for hardware and software sales in a single month in December. This helped total hardware and software sales in 2014 increase by more than 29 percent and more than 75 percent, respectively, over sales in 2013.

Nintendo 3DS also had a strong December, including its largest month ever for first-party software sales. This was primarily fueled by Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS, which has already surpassed 2 million combined physical and digital units sold in a little more than three months, and Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire, which have combined to sell over 2.6 million physical and digital units in their first six weeks.

“Wii U had its strongest year yet thanks to the highly anticipated software lineup and the introduction of the amiibo platform,” said Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. “Fans can anticipate another strong year for 2015, especially with more highly anticipated games like Splatoon and The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D, as well as New Nintendo 3DS XL, arriving in the first half of 2015.”

Wii U:

Mario Kart 8 and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U sold over 1.7 million physical and digital units and 1.3 million physical and digital units, respectively, in 2014.

Total sales of amiibo figures in 2014 are nearly twice the sales of Super Smash Bros. for Wii U.

Nintendo 3DS:

I have had this debate for a year with guys on here that X1 would have a huge holiday. I was Bashed sideways for it. :p

I didn't think it would be by 400k in Nov. and ? in Dec. I knew the gap in N. America could change fast in a first year holiday though.

I give two shits about sales of either system. I just want to see if my predictions come true.

PS4 will more than likely out sale the X1 at $399 up until fall again, unless word of mouth helps sells with new adopters from the holiday season. Microsoft might figure out that $350 price tag is the sweet spot. I have no clue why they bumped the price back up. I was wrong there... I thought they would release a PR claiming the price would remain at $349. It's hard to judge these companies. A lot easier to predict public interest going by trends.

I look at more than Amazon. I look at hype threads for games... before they're released. The size of the threads around the internet, and the amount of interest in the threads of games coming out. I use my own view of the actual games being released. I look at past sales numbers of games in those genres. Observe marketing push / hype or negative press. I even watch for Pre-Damage control on forums. It's like an Ocean of waves. I just observe.

The price should have remained $349 non-bundled at least, due to the GPU differences imo.

I think that the Xbox One sold more than the PS4 in the United States in December because of the $100 price drop plus the extra $50 price cut it got for the holidays and the free games. Once it goes back to its regular price, the PS4 will start beating it again.

Will be interesting to see how the consoles do with the same price going forward. If XB1 dominates december as well they may have generated enough of a Wave going forward to keep up in NA. Maybe not 1:1 but way better than last year was early.

My guess is E3 we see an xb1 slim with a permanent price cut for the original unit.

As for US/UK , with the super price cuts and bundles offers i see X1 having the lead. Now big one or not doesnt matter. It will be on lead but not that far as it should considering all those price cuts all around imho. We will see
