http://www.polygon.com/2013/11/14/5103150/deep-down-will-have-an-infinite-number-of-randomly-generated-dungeons

What this means is that the dungeons will move blocks around differently each play-through by having the numbers randomly not doing the same randomless as it was randomly doing. Also I almost forgot this was a game until I remember Dead Rising and was like "OH, there was a PS4 alternative." and stuff.

Article:

Capcom's free-to-play PlayStation 4 offering Deep Down will feature an infinite number of randomly generated dungeons, the studio stated in a post on Facebook translated by Gematsu.

The development team have worked to create a system that generates items and the environment at random, in what the studio calls an "include as intended" design strategy. This means elements incuding treasure chests, traps, ladders and height differences throughout the dungeon are expected to change throughout.

Deep Down made its publicly playable debut at TGS earlier in the year, drawing long lines as one of the few next-generation titles available at the show from Japanese developers. You can read our Deep Down impressions here.

Of course this is polygon, so sometimes there is bias uh, incuding. Lol.

Can't help but think "Infinity number of badly, randomly designed dungeons with randomly placed enemies"

This would keep things from getting stale but I'd still prefer dev made dungeons.

other games have done this type of stuff and it is always terrible.

i had a racer that generated random tracks and they were all the same damn track re-arrainged.

infinite same-y dungeons is not a bonus for me.

Yes that is what it says. Although the graphics aren't randomly generated per dungeon.

No the loop numbers are smaller and scripted. For example, that one DC games only has 15 loops(in comparison). it doesn't increase the variables by 1 each. (like gong from 200-201) it counts in what is set.

@ freedomfreak "This means that every dungeon will feel unique and

Actually no, the human brain will still see patterns (even if they're no patterns) so no you won't see/feel much of a difference after th 50th dungeon, its a technological marvel and its abslutely pointless. They're better off hand crafting each dungeon individually. If they do it well people will want to always play the same dungeons.

Well it's F2P, budget doesn't allow thoughtfully crafted static dungeon layouts and more.

That's a huge double-edged sword.

If it's done really well, then we can expect something like Minecraft.

However, if it's done poorly then it's just a cheap excuse for being too lazy to design levels individually.

Morrowind had randomly generated dungeons, I thought it was quite good.

But they should really mix and match random with static to get the best outcome.

You're really that excited about a feature that's been in dungeon crawler games for almost 20 years, maybe more?

Well it can be random from a set. e.g random from values [0, 1, 2, 3]. It isn't infinite, but the selection is random. And so if it was generating dungeons, it would be selecting assets, which would have a finite set of possibilities.

You can further look into whether Deep Down is genuinely infinite, or if it's effectively infinite, or if it's even possible at all.

the more likely case is playing through an area will get stale after x amount of times and feel exactly the same long before you actually hit the hard amount of variations.

Issue with generated levels is that they sometimes lack that handcrafted feel and tend to be not as detailed or unique.
