Define "Hardcore" or "Nerd" and "Casual"

I've heard these terms get thrown around like a baseball as of lately. Honestly, it's kinda annoying in a way. If someone can honestly no biased define what these terms mean to me, I would be soooo much happier. I know whats going on in the gaming world for the most part. I pay much closer attention to the PC side of things though. I am always reading up on hardware and software and I'm an avid PC gamer. I put just as much if not more into my other hobbies as well. Yes, I consider PC' a hobby... Mountain Biking junkie as well as a fitness freak. I put just as much time and effort and reading into those hobbies as well. Some weeks depending on school and work I only get to play 2-3 hours on one of above said hobbies. Does that mean I'm "casual" one week and "hardcore" another week? It doesn't make sense. Someone please shed some light on this subject for me.

Hardcore Gamer - Someone who plays countless hours on video games trying to get achievements and everything, and have an unhealthy social life. They don't care about graphics, and they don't get laid often (no offense). Nerd Gamer - Similar to the Hardcore Gamer, only they're good in school. They don't get laid often either (again, no offense). Casual Gamer - People that play games for the fun of it, and play online with friends, maybe once or twice a week or so.

I'd say

Hardcore 3-4+ hours a day of gaming

Casual 0-1 Hours a day gaming

Nerd someone who leans more towards the nonphysical side of life...computers, electronics, comic books, etc.

A casual gamer barely plays bro. Like not even every day.

Nerd Gamer - Similar to the Hardcore Gamer, only they're good in school. They don't get laid often either (again, no offense).

He was refering to graphics. Hardly someone new would play those old games because of the graphics, but there are also other factors that would make them less appealing, like control interface, difficulty and overall game design.

Some peoples' definition of nerd is strange for me. Nerd doesnt carry a negative connotation where i live at all. There is even a saying "If you aren't proud to be a nerd, you don't deserve to be one".

The problem is that nerds can be anything. Nerds are anyone who is so absorbed in something totally unimportant that they lose in real life because of it. For instance, you can be a sports nerd. People that play fantasy football are sports nerds. People that follow celebrity culture are also nerds, and so on. By contrast, Joe Montana, Justin Bieber, and Fatal1ty are not nerds. What do all these people share? Even though they all have a chosen vocationthat lolsucks relative to the social value it produces, they are all great successes. They also happen to pwn at what they do. Justin Bieber makes bad music and yet is still a superstar. Joe Montana played a stupid game where you throw a ball around and yet is a !@#$ing hero in trailerparks everywhere. Fatal1ty melts faces on the internet and gets paid for it. The difference is....nerds idolize these people, whereas the hardcore just melt faces and be successful IRL instead of wasting countless hours in a fake world without success.Brownesque

Hardcore= someone who plays a lot and is good at games that require actual skill.Also cares how good he is.For him gaming is more then a hobby in a way.

Casual= Plays from time to time,purely for fun.Mainly easy games that don't take more then 15 minutes to get "good" at.Doesn't take gaming seriously.

Nerd Gamer= No clue.I guess some gamers are nerds but not all (hardcore or casual).

Casual Gamer: Someone who don't really "care" about games, but thinks they are "kind'a fun" sometimes, mostly in family reunions and parties. If at all, plays a game once in a week, but once in a month would be more realistic. When they get stuck in any part of a game, they say that "this isn't fun" and pass on to another game... or not.

Hardcore Gamer: Someone who loves games, they are his reason to rise everyday in the morning. Plays at least 2 hours a day if older and needs to work, far more hours if still studying. When they get stuck in any part of a game, they take it as a personal chalenge to their gaming skills.

Nerd Gamer: Likes games, no need for excesses, they'll come up with a well thought timetable that divides their daily activities in such a way that there will be time for studying, gaming, fun with friends (potentially more games, but may be instead some booze and go out hitting on girls, depends on friends and the nerd`s mood). Does't really care for how much daily time is spent on gaming, as long as he finds some time for his "gaming fix". When he gets stuck in any part of a game, they turn off the console/PC, and go about on their daily activities, all the while devicing a new strategy for the next gaming round (Nerds don`t ever get stuck, they just didn't see right away the proper strategy to succeed).

HARDCORE GAMER = The group who makes videogame as the new counterculture, like their ancestor in the 60's did in woodstock

NERD = In their eyes and soul, every sexy girls are in 3d, 2d or anime

CASUAL = Oprah winfrey and soccermoms who gets free kinect

(even if the casualites did some contribution in the gaming industry's economy, they behavior are killing the producing quality games)

I consider myself a hardcore gamer (I'm also a huge film buff) yet I still get out alot and socialize with all types of people. I'm actually a pretty big party animal. It's all stereotypes.

Pretty accurate descriptions. However, I'd like to mention that the nerds are usually PC gamers, and have the priority to build the best pc possible. If one of their fellow nerd friends builds a better one, he/she will proceed to upgrade as much as possible until his/her pc is better. Then say fellow nerd friend decides to match his friend--they end up with essentially the same machine--this is where case modding comes in. Also, nerd pc gamers in this day and age goes to both genders, so it is perfectly possibly for nerd boy to have nerd girl--and then do the last part.

Lastly, nerd pc gamers refrigerators are filled with Coke and frozen pizzas.

Sorry if im repeating what others have said. Its early and i dont feel like reading. Here is what I have always said...to me.."nerd,hardcore" are pretty much the same...I USE to be those things...buy every gaming magazine on the stands, watch anything on tv about gaming, play games until I could play them with my eyes closed, keep up with all the upcoming games, know whats going on all the time in the gaming world,be 1st in line at every launch of a console or high rated game...

NOW days, im very much a casual gamer...I play about 1 or 2 times a week if that. I still love games, but dont compete, dont care if I beat a level, dont keep up with any new games, could care less whats popular or not,I never play online, I NEVER EVER buy magazines anymore and havent in years. I just dont care anymore..

AND it all started about the time my launch 360 died after 8 months. THen I bought another one and its been repaired 5x now. I feel MS has helped to completely ruin something I loved so dear. I even have a Wii and PS3 and just dont play with passion I use to play...

After this gen im not buying anymore consoles..Im pretty much done keeping up. Will probably go to PC....

A nerd I think is somebody that is similar to a Geek but there are still differences I think a Nerd just wants to learn all they can about everything when a Geek just focuses on one are two particular subjects.
