"Hardcore"

Someone who plays games as a lifestyIe. They focus either on single games, or single genres, and play them to the point other gamers would find it nauseating. They don't have extensive collections (beyond series, or genres) but spend many hours of every day perfecting their ability.

"Core"

Someone how plays gaming as a serious hobby. They focus on many genres, franchises and generations. They usually play more than one game at a time, don't necessarily play for many hours (unless they have time). They usually have extensive collections, with many consoles, handhelds and PC's across many generations and don't discriminate platforms, franchises, or games (except those that don't fit their preferences, but still will play them if others want to).

"Casual"

Someone who plays gaming as a small hobby. They focus usually on one or two games/franchises, and usually stay within the most recent generation. They spend varying amounts of time playing, and can easily invest more time than Core gamers, but don't branch out into other types of games very often. They are very similar to Hardcore gamers, but don't take gaming as a lifestyIe, merely a hobby, in which lies the difference. They play games casually, and usually have many other hobbies. Hardcores don't usually have other hobbies, or very few.

"Non-Gamer"

Someone who doesn't see "gaming" as a hobby, but merely a pastime. They generally own one system, with at most 3 or 4 games, and spend very little time playing.

I don't know if this information is accurate, this is from experience of where I'm living, here is my opinion of a hardcore gamer compared to a casual gamer.

Ahardcore gamer is someone who has a veryhigh knowledge of the gaming industry in general, they also tend to play particular games that usually get over look by the general public, when not gaming, hardcore gamersspend most of their time at gaming websites looking for the latest information on upcoming games. When around their casual pairsdiscussing video games they tend to be the centre of attention with their high knowledge of videogames and they are sometimes looked at as a computer nerd.Competitively a hardcore gamer can adapt to a game quicker than his casual counterpart, with enough training, dedication and persistencehe could alsomaster the controls. To sum it up, hardcore gamers are gamerswho enjoy the passion of playing video games and whoare veryopen minded about playinggames of their particular genre and wouldn't be quick to judge a gamebase on how the game looks.

A casual gamer is someone who plays games that are generally known to the public, they tend to buy games base on the box art of the game not having any sort of general info of the game, most games that some hardcore gamers find appealing they might consider it as boring and not a game worth playing. Competitively a casual gamer can master the controls of games they like but to a much lesser extent compare to their hardcore counterpart, example if a casual gamer was to win in a game competitively against a hardcore gamer, the hardcore gamer would try to change around his tactics and strategiesand try to get better at the game where as if a hardcore gamer was to win the casual gamer might just look at theperson as being the better gamer and move on. To sum it up,a casual gamer does not have a open mind to all game genres they play and usually only play the games the general public likes, an example of this would be"Farmville"

It fits me perfectly

But I would say I'm also a Geek because I want to know all I can about Video Games like how to make them, designing the sound for the games, and know about the history of Videogames.

Hardcore: I don't think it's even a relative term. It's just something people throw in front of words like "game" and "system" to create the illusion that it's somehow better for it. I guess when people use it, generally it means they play game a LOT.

Casual: Usually, a term used for people that play games as a light hobby, maybe once or twice a week and more often in the presence of friends. I don't believe it can be attributed to a game.

Nerd: This is a far wider term which can expand to things outside of gaming. Basically, it's if you gravitate heavily towards fictional entities and often become obsessed by it. Nerd also has a scholastic meaning, meaning a kid that is good at studying etc.

Hardcore - Someone who is devoted. Despite what people think I'm pretty certain you could be the most hardcore "The Sims" fan out there if you devoted hours upon hours to that game on a near daily basis.

Casual - Basically the opposite. You may play on weekends for a few hours, or possibly even less. Doesn't really matter what game(s). Like for example I may casually play Tropico every so often, but I've played League of Legends for probably 50+ hours in the passed two weeks :?

Hardcore Gamer - Someone who plays countless hours on video games trying to get achievements and everything, and have an unhealthy social life. They don't care about graphics, and they don't get laid often (no offense). Nerd Gamer - Similar to the Hardcore Gamer, only they're good in school. They don't get laid often either (again, no offense). Casual Gamer - People that play games for the fun of it, and play online with friends, maybe once or twice a week or so.

Again, sorry if I offended anyone.

Strongly disagree with that statement. Some of my friends strictly play Call of Duty games and nothing else, and they're very casual gamers who know nothing about games other than Call of Duty. That's what I call very casual.

Being a hardcore gamer is about knowledge of your hobby, and playing a multitude of different genres, and playing often.

Nerd - ughh, don't know what that would be

Casual - someone that has a 360 or ps3 and plays it whenever their bored, they'll get the latest blockbuster since all their friends are getting

That's how I look at it: 1- Casual Gamer: someone who's interested in gaming but it's not one of his/her main hobbies. 2- Core Gamer: someone who love gaming and talks about it as one of his favorite hobbies but is not addicted to it. 3- Nerd Gamer: Addicted to gaming and sometimes ignores real life issues, these guys need to lessen the amount of hours spent in the virtual world.

Do you have a job? Because if you got money, then you're good. And there's no way you could have a job and have the time to play more than 2 hours of games.

Hardcore: People who use the term to create a false sense that their console and or game is far superior to other games/ consoles (also known as fanboys)

Nerd: Someone who knows the history of the gaming industry, knows how old Nintendo is, collect consoles and games to play them every now and again, plays retro system such as the NES,when their current generation console fails to keep them entertained. They also go as far as to know the story behind games and are into the fan art for their favorite games. They might even go and create their own storyline using their favorite characters.

Casual: despite popular belief, people who play the Wii are not this, unless they do what I state in this definition. Casuals play games just for the fun of it, they can play for a very short time such as just a few minutes to a few hours. The more fun they are having the longer they will play (or the quicker they will come back to play it again if real life gets in their way of console/ pc gaming entertainment). They dont play for mind blowing graphics or to be the best player known to a game (highscores, achievments, etc.), they just play for the soul purpose of having fun.

They don't care man, they'll play a game if its fun, like Final Fantasy 1 or something.

Your talking about casuals right now. Hardcore definately care about graphics. Infact, it sometimes feels thats about all hardcore gamers care about . Just look at all the graphics threads and people fighting over pixels.

well your starting to talk more about different types of hardcore gaming, one that plays games for technology more likely care more about graphics, and one for the games and will play any game from crysis to catching every pokemon.

Based on my observations of how the words are used on forums, I would say the following:

1. Hardcore - someone who's really into gaming or very specific games, plays them a lot, thinks about them, and has pretty much mastered the games; doesn't necessarily have social problems, just really into gaming.

2. Nerd - someone who's socially inept but has a high aptititude for the software/hardware side of gaming, might like to tinker with PCs, tends to be aware of minor differences in things no matter how minisqule and unimportant they would seem to everyone else, but makes a world of difference to them

3. Casual - someone who doesn't game much, but still likes games, could have social problems, but not necessarily

Hardcore: Gamers who are TRUE REAL gamers that owns two or more consoles (and sometimes a gaming PC), are very knowledgable about games, and MOST OF ALL, plays them all whether FPS, RPG, platforming, etc. never quick to judge and plays games whenever they get a chance.

Nerd Gamers: Gamers who play games WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYY too often, games takes over their life until they don't know anything else, and have too many needless facts in their heads, like this week's sale numbers for this particular games. They are also quick to insult and quick to display their set ups, like their PC set ups etc. And they buy games even if they don't have time to play them. They SO totally into it, they are stuck in it! Read "WoW'ers" or any other MMORPG players, or worse, any S. Korean Starcraft players (these guys have litterally, played themselves to death before).

Casuals: Casuals usually only owns one console, rarely if any gaming PC's, They buy the least amount of games per year, and they play games the least amount of time per week. The game they buy are simple, with the least amount of control etc. They HATE shooting games. Casuals shys away from blood and gore and guns.

Median Gamers: They want to be like hardcore gamers (not nerds though), owns 2 or more consoles, however, due to their life commitments (medians usually are married and have kids or other commitments), and the end resulting lack of time, they don't have the time to buy all of the games they want or play whenever they want.

Mainstream Gamers: This is my "Friendly" term for all the so called "hardcore, real" etc gamers here. My term would be "harda-corda gamagas" or "Fake core gamers", aka, they play only one genre of games, like FPS, or worse, only one franchise, like CoD or GTA, they spend nearly all of their spare time playing and playing and playing, and WORST of all, because they put into so many hours, they think they are the end all be all of all gamers, they are insulting, annoying and LOVE to call anyone with a different opinion "noobs", they especially HATE the so called "kiddie" games, and when someone more knowledgable catches them, they throws a temper tantrum. They are FAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRR worse than the nerd class gamers. That's because although nerds are insulting, they are at least knowledable and acknowledges ALL type of games. Harda-corda gamags, on the other hand....They are not only insulting, they are "insulting without reasons and without facts", they are SO trapped in their own little world, they are all about "Me, Me, ME, ME, ME", i.e. if the game company, or anyone else doesn't "Flow" with them, they blows up and throws a temper tantrum. And WORST of all, because they are so trapped in their own little world, they think they are the ULTIMATE hard core "real"gamers, anyone else is not "a hardcore gamer" but a "Casual". so much so, the term hard core gamers are so abused now, it's synonomous with them instead, which is truly sad cause the term "hard core gamer" is NOT them at all!

Hardcore: someone who plays video games nearly everyday for a minimum of an hour, competetivly and online mostly

Casual: someone who plays 1-3 times/hours a week and liked big name franchises and is heavily swayed by reviews

Nerd Gamer: A socially awkward person who plays vide games too much because it is better than real life for them
