No other game this gen has even come close to matching it. Whether it be other console games or pc games. Demon's Souls has taken both sp camaign and mp and merged them into a one-of-a-kind experience that is now the industry standard.

To me, the little messages left around didn't really help. Seeing "The True Demon's Souls starts Here" and the like at every random turn wasn't really helpful. I ended up playing without reading them because most things were in obvious locations, and everyone seemed to die from falling off random things.
I also though the PvP was very boring. Most guys that invaded my world tried to find a safe spot so they could cast a large range magic spell.
The game was better without any form of multiplayer, imo.
personally I liked fighting as a boss in other players games, and I've helped out quite a few friends via co-op. In regards to PvP, why didn't you just soul light, or bow + arrow the invader? To me, the little messages left around didn't really help. I was saying it back then too. First day release buy for me. :)

No it wasn't. Multiplayer pretty much made that game. That was my favorite aspect about the game.
Sounds like you were just killed a bunch of times by invaders, when summoning just 1 blue phantom already put you at a big advantage, not too mention 2 of them.
The best aspects were things that didnt even include actual players in your personal game, like the blood stains/messages.
Wish they expanded on those a little more. More accurate and meaningful messages, and more detail to the death replays which would have come in handy with dragon portions for instance. The actual player to player aspect was a nice filler, but nothing memorable.

I had no problem fighting them, it was just too common a tactic, at least for those who invade my world. There were some respectable people that put me in a close corners duel, and that was enjoyable at times, but I just don't like the MP aspect.

If you say so. I mean, my opinion is directly affect by yours so...yeah.
I only lost once or twice. After my third or so playthrough while I was grinding, I just turned off the internet connection while I played so I wouldn't be bothered.

You must not have played too much online lol. Anyway, your problem is solved by just not logging in to their servers. :PI agree with mostly but IMO demon souls is not just one of the best game of this gen but one of the best of all time. Its combat system alone puts all other RPGs to shame.
It may is not the best, however it is one of the better online experiences this gen. There was however one enormous problem I had with that game's multiplayer. One so bad taht for most of the part, I actually played only offline. That was the awful world tendency system which made it almost impossible to get pure white or pure black world tendancy.
Still, I felt it was inferior to what titles like Diablo 2 did years ago.
It's fantastic, but slow your roll.
My one complaint is that it made the adventure easier when difficulty should have been modified for more players. Hopefully for Dark Souls.
Demons Souls Is The Best MP Experience This GenTopic
Whut?Guild Wars 2, Witcher 2 and Diablo 3 say hello. Both of these games will offer more replayability and content than your sh!tty RPG

Between that and listing two games that aren't out yet, your post makes very little sense.
The industry standard? What other games since Demon's Souls have implemented that system?
Twin-Blade
lol

Edit: What is with Gamespot's quotes glitching out on me today? :(
Brink offers the same kind of multi-player PvP style experience that's found in Demons Souls, which is being able to enter someones single player experience as a baddie while actually being able to grief the host as he attempts to complete mission objectives.
What are you smoking really? encountering or attacking a player 1 on 1 every now on then is a very basic form of multiplayer, or going in to help someone completely randomly is archaic. "Buh buh the streaming ghosts" ..... whoa.... amazing.Birdy09and 1v2, and 1v3, 2v2, and 2v3.
I'm not too sure if there's another game where you can play as a boss in another players game - whom is required to kill in order to advance in your SP playthrough as well.
there could be, but not as far as I know.
That one is a bit of a stretch since Brink's campaign is just a bunch of multiplayer matches with bots. If you want to compare Brink to anything, compare it to Unreal Tournament 3 which did that (long before Demons Souls.)Brink offers the same kind of multi-player PvP style experience that's found in Demons Souls, which is being able to enter someones single player experience as a baddie while actually being able to grief the host as he attempts to complete mission objectives.

Doesn t change the fact the game is a whole level better than Demon Souls.and 1v2, and 1v3, 2v2, and 2v3.[QUOTE="Birdy09"]What are you smoking really? encountering or attacking a player 1 on 1 every now on then is a very basic form of multiplayer, or going in to help someone completely randomly is archaic. How are you a boss exactly?Haven't played the game then, huh? ( And yes, I played diablo quite a bit in the late 90's.) There is a level where you can allow yourself to be pulled into another players game to play as the final boss of their level. They cannot advance until they defeat you. Like the previous poster said, there really isn't any other game out there that has done this before.

Yes I have played it... look on my raptr if you need proof :P . but I did not know or ever do that. I didnt see much reason to play through it multiple times compared to games like diablo ... had my ultimate half way through the second playthrough, gear and progression was too boring and standard to bother again.[QUOTE="TheMoreYouOwn"][QUOTE="Birdy09"] How are you a boss exactly?Birdy09

Check it out. Oh, and one playthrough of Diablo was enough for me. Over 500 hours into DS though. The replayibility is far superior to Diablo.

Score has nothing to do with it i'm just pointing out that Brink offers a simular kind of multi-player experience to Demons Souls. How are you a boss exactly?Birdy09probably 75% of the time you put down your invade stone in world 3, you'll be summoned as the 3-3 boss in another players game. I've even been summoned as the boss while putting my black stone down in another world. If you win, you get the old monks helmet too which looks hilarious.
regardless, you are the old monk (his character model, his extended hp, his special attack (the homing soul arrows), but you use all of your armor and weapons. The entire fight while you're pvping, your homing soul arrows are automatically going off making it harder for the player trying to kill you. In order to beat the game, you have to kill all the end bosses, and the old monk is one of 5 bosses. It's a PVP boss fight.
I wouldn't say that..the crafting and amount of armor, items, and players still playing diablo creates an insane amount of replayability. 10 years later the game is still played and updated actively. The replayibility is far superior to Diablo.TheMoreYouOwn
In 10 years, people may still be playing demon's souls, but not online since there won't be multiplayer servers available any more. It won't have nearly as much staying power as diablo 2 does.
Demon's Souls was and is one of the handful of truely stand out games of this generation.
From the combat, to the stat progression and character builds, to the atmopshere, to the multiplayer intergration into a single player game, it just did everything right.
I don't know if Dark Souls will live up to Demon's Souls, but Demon's Souls will be remembered fondly for a long time.
Well its certainly a matter of preference, but imo DS is up there. I like playing unique mp games. Last gen I loved Splinter Cells multiplayer and Metal Gear Online. Its rare to find online games that don't follow the same tired pattern.
