If the game was just more of this? it would be so unimpressive. Assuming it's the length of a usual mmo, or a rpg, or even Borderlands 2, where the fast hours are in the 20s, it doesn't have the enemy variety to stay strong for that long. It doesn't have the encounter design variety to justify that shit either. It routinely relies on Tyrionbot to either hack something or open a door, that required you to "wait" and provide "cover" and shoot waves of enemies, before you move forward and shoot waves of enemies.
It's fun on a mechanical level in a basic sense. You shoot gun, gun feels good, solid feedback, enemies themselves feel a little lively when you fight them. it relies heavily on not your mastery of a system, or expertise or skill, but your willingness to be compulsive for loot, upgrades, and number crunching. All the while still without the tactical depth of an actual actionrpg/mmo, because what you have here is a more straight forward shooter. It's more bonus than substantial play style switching build.
The game world itself while beautiful to look at, has nothing in it. What the **** can you even be invested in? Bungie's script? that's iffy at best right now. The actual environmental story telling? that's leagues behind the likes of what The Souls games have been doing in their series, or what Bioshock was doing in 07, or what Half Life 2 doing in 2004, or what Metroid Prime was doing in 2001. The environment itself may be painted with this rich history and all that jazz, but there is so little information to gather if you are the player.
Again it's a beta, so it's only really testing the basics and stress testing servers. But if the game doesn't have more variety, or at the least a bit more meat to the games universe: it's going to get boring quick. **** a decade, it might barely be fun for a few hours.
