Destiny sells 2.4 million units first week in US

The Destiny success story continues with 2.43 million units sold in the US in its first week. That is the biggest opening of the year and the biggest for a new IP in gaming history.

Destiny sold the most units for the PlayStation 4 with 1,074,010 units, followed by the Xbox One with 846,613 units sold. The seventh generation consoles have lagged behind. The game managed to sell 354,620 units on the Xbox 360 and 154,432 units on the PlayStation 3.

The game also helped push sales for both the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. PlayStation 4 sales jumped 262 percent to 162,354 units, while the Xbox One saw sales increase 208 percent to 105,437 units. Even the seventh generation consoles saw a slight bump in sales. The Xbox 360 sold 17,821 units, a 37 percent increase week-over-week, while PlayStation 3 sales increase 57 percent to 12,502 units.

These sales figure come after Sony announced that Destiny pushed PlayStation 4 sales to its highest week in 2014. Publisher Activision also announced earlier this week the game made $325 million in just five days.

I know its VG so who knows, but I am surprised by this if its remotely accurate. I thought the spread between ps4 vs xbox1 units sold would be massive. I thought maybe 2to1 or greater due to the marketing campaign and hardware lead sony has so far. Maybe the hardcore bungie guys on xbox are still on xbox?

No matter how you look at it, a flop gets low scores and does not sell up to predictions. So technically neither Titanfall or Destiny were flops. Together they were a good game I guess.

Titanfall got the score and Destiny got the sales. Personally I think that the MP of Titanfall and the Story/co-op of Destiny should be a goal for one of the two games sequels.

Still not a fan of the MP of either, but Destiny's is comically bad.

Impressive......very good for a very good game.

Honestly,that´s a lot less than I expected,for the massive hype and public recognition it had,record breaking pre orders and all that jazz,if you compare to something like Diablo 3 in one single platform sold 3.6M day one and 6M in the first week.

Good numbers sure,but not anywhere near what I´d expect this to sell in a week,impressive would´ve been selling that day one.
