Destiny...a shameless rip-off of...

Borderlands!

Yeah, I said it! Anyone else who noticed the glaring similarities between the two? It was almost as if they had taken the entire Borderlands concept, removed the cel shading and added a bit of...Halo..to it (Battlerifles, dropships).

That being said, the game looks incredibly fun to play and I can't wait to get my hands on it! :lol:

If it were strictly a third-person shooter people would be yelling Mass Effect copy.

There was seriously very little that distinguished what was seen of Destiny from Borderlands. I see very few resemblances between a 3rd person Destiny and Mass Effect, you mustn't have played the latter :|

Borderlands is boring and it's bad. Destiny looks more fun.

The cel shading and this. Probably two of few things that make the games stand out as different.

The multiplayer aspect of Destiny looks very different from borderlands, public events makes a HUGE difference.

Nah, more to it than that. Online co-op, different character classes, boss fights, loot, upgradeable and modifiable weapons, open world, FPS, similar - if not identical - concept.

calling something borderlands isn't an insult. Borderlands 2 has very good story, gameplay, humor, characters; its a good game.

I didn't said Borderlands was a bad game (it wasn't anything special either... just decent). However Destiny doesn't remind me of Borderlands at all.

Had a Borderland's influence but it was distinctly Bungie and had a great amount of its own features.

I'm not sure if I have ever seen anything in the same vein as Borderlands with respect to all of the above and the weapon/modification mechanics ; at least not this generation.

In that sense I feel Borderlands is, dare I say it; innovative.

ya destiny doesn't remind me of borderlands either, but i guess it shares certain features of the genre. I think a better comparison would be somelike like an open world mass effect, not squad based.

I'm not "hating" on Destiny. Did you read my first post? I'm just STARKLY reminded of Borderlands after having seen that gameplay demonstration.

The boss fights, the weapon modification mechanics, looting, the MMOFPS-concept, even the environment seemed influenced by Borderlands: Borderlands - and Halo - were the first things that came to mind.

That might just be me, though. But that's not a a bad thing as I think Borderlands was a pretty good game and Halo: CE is my de facto favourite FPS. In fact I think Destiny looks amazing and it's one of the games I'm antcipating the most.

I probably came on a bit too strong calling it a "shameless rip-off" though :P

No, its not. The public events alone are a huge difference. Also, look at how each weapon has its own skill tree. Borderlands is about constantly dropping weapons for better ones. It looks like you are encouraged to stick with weapons for a while in this onewolverine4262

I really really like the skill tree idea for each individual weapon. I think it solves a huge problem in gun looting games where a huge portion of guns become obsolete simply due numbers or the lack of reward for playing with them.

It reminded me of Halo. More players and different outfits, but otherwise a reskinned Halo.
