Well, it does bring up some good points. Heavy Rain really isn't as innovative or artistically sound as people on message boards are saying it is. A lot of the bashing is based on the backlash they received from giving the game a 7, which I think it deserves, such as "[the only difference between the games is that Heavy Rain is a piece of ****ing s***, which is obviously what we think it is because a 7 is the lowest score a game can possibly get."
But then there are serious comments about the integrity of Heavy Rain's "artistry," such as being littered with plot inconsistencies and red herrings.
I haven't played Deadly Premonition, so I can't comment on that game, though I understand it is terrible and intentionally hilarious and incredibly fun. I have played Heavy Rain, and I was unimpressed.
DP is the perfect "contrast" to Heavy Rain
HR is super-serial, DP is off the wall
so yeah i think anybody could like DP more than HR just as much as anybody could like HR more than DP
it's just one of those things where if you're tired of super-serial drama with super-serial writing and etc., DP is the perfect antidote
although i gotta say, i actually bought this game but i don't think anybody would've bought it if it were $60, but the same could be said for EDF2017 (also came out for $20) and that game is genius
and btw, the article is super-sarcastic

Dude, I friggin LOVE EDF2017.
Desctruoid isn't funny, they should stop trying, its getting pretty pathetic. The idea itself is fine, if someone did it properly, but Destrucoid is so bad at it. 110million
I disagree. I think it's hilarious. A little heavy handed, but it's still great when people say what they really think about sacred cow games. I didn't mean cow there as in PS3 fanboys, I meant sacred cow as in something that is inexplicably revered beyond reproach.
Stopped paying attention to Jim Sterling and reading most of his articles. They don't rile me up but it's just become noise and the comments section is filled with more hate and stupidity than anything I've seen on System Wars. In any case, I really, really want to play Deadly Premonition. Short on money right now with one of my local conventions coming up but as soon as that weekend's over I'll be picking it up. From what I've seen both games seem to be great but I don't think you can measure the up against eachother. Each are doing their own thing and succeeding at it.
Not sure if I want to get it for Xbox 360 or PS3? The import is like $80? I may be better off getting the 360 version.
What's this? Jim Sterling attempting to be funny but ends up completely failing yet again? As someone in the comments section said, Sterling is like Carlos Mencia. The poor guy really needs to just stop. It doesn't help that he has people bowing at his feet which makes him think he's actually funny.

Well see, you find it funny because its someone taking a jab at something major and popular, gotta "bring down the man!", out of this context, its poorly written and lame. The truth of the matter is that these people are gullible ****wits who believe that Heavy Rain is unique just because Sony told them that's what it was.
See, there in lies the problem, Destrucoid is incredibly butthurt. Heavy Rain IS unique, no game plays like it, no game has tried to do what it does before. They are hating purely because others have said its unique, its totally cool to go against common belief, or in this case, fact.

Heavy Rain just isn't as great as it's getting credit for being. What makes it funny to me is how offensively he's presenting his opinion. People are mad about it, and it's funny to see people getting mad about videogames. I'm not saying it's comic genius or anything, but it made me laugh, and that's good. Of course, nobody's going to pay attention if you write an article like this about a game. People who love it will just disregard any points raised in the article as being irrelevant because they're embedded in blatant, offensive sarcasm. But I bet he felt pretty good after he wrote it.

Very much not true. While the gestures are certainly more involved. It's basically an evolution of Indigo Prophecy.
I think there are two major driving factors behind this article:
1) The writer wishes to show us the reader how useless gaming "reviews" actually are, and why getting upset over them is pointless. At many points the writer takes blatant shots at people who seem to "care" quite a bit about how Heavy Rain is doing critically. I of course agree with this assessment, and see this humourous attempt at sarcasm kind of entertaining.
2) That Heavy Rain may not be all that its made out to be by the "professional" reviewers. The fact that the writer is comparing Heavy Rain, a game designed to be serious and dramatic, to a game that is most obviously off-the-wall in terms of its content, just shows us how useless comparing games is, and that Heavy Rain, despite being decent, isn't the "revolutionary" and "masterpiece" that its made out to be.
Ultimately, it comes down to opinion. I would like to play Heavy Rain just to see how many "improvements" QD have made over Fahrenheit, and how the story unfolds... but from what I've been gathering recently, is that a lot of the love for this game (like so many others this generation) comes merely from hype, and most of these games will not stand the test of time.

Yes, because you would agree with any sort of praise about any PS3 game.It still plays differently from Indigo Prophecy, it is more dramatically structured, and the motions being more involved is a big part of the game, before they were literally normal QTEs, in the form of analog directions, it was pretty much a big game of that simon toy where you push the colours in order. It was an awesome game, but things are done very differently in Heavy Rain. In addition, the different characters and all the directions the ending can lead, it is unique.
I've been enjoying the game for more then I ever imagined, I have yet to even find flaw with it.

I gave it a 10/10 on Gamespot's ratings. And I recommended it over Mass Effect 2 on this very forum. Nice try.
And it's an evolution of the Indigo Prophecy formula. That's an irrefutable fact.

It partly stems from the fact that all the bugs and other problems I've had with the game were largely left out of most mainstream reviews. The absence of these criticisms leads me to skepticism about said reviews. If said reviews had taken these things into consideration, I may consider them more accurate. But since they didn't, then I don't trust them.VandalvideoHeavy Rain, right? From what I read, a lot of slim owners have been experiencing most of the issues I keep hearing about. I have a launch 60GB and the only issue I've come across is some audio blips at the start of a couple of chapters. Just saying, maybe that's why it doesn't come up all that often in the reviews.

wonder how long before people start complaining about Yahtzee... oh wait...
Fail joke article is fail.
"It's a basic scientific fact that professional game reviewers judge titles based on what platform they are on and use no other basis for their judgment. This is obviously why I despise Heavy Rain and love Deadly Premonition. DP is on the Xbox 360 which is a system that I routinely ejaculate onto, inside, and around, because I find it erotic and it makes my penis feel nice and spray cocksnot everywhere."
Wait, that must explain why it's being released March 11th, for the PS3.

That was sarcasm. And even if it wasn't, it's not getting a NA release on PS3, and it's $80 to import.

I apologize, but it's been blatantly obvious for awhile that you are a Lemming, that are an extremist oriented towards the Xbox 360.
And one "review" doesn't justify the fact that one is clearly biased towards a certain product. I could easily write a review claiming that Gears of War 2 is inferior to Resistance 2, just to save face.
Sorry, but I'm not buying into your BS buddy.

Keep your personal vendettas inside.
That is not the point of this discussion.
And you clearly have an agenda here. You trash me. You trash Mr. Sterling. The PS3 is not human. You should love us, not it.
I am here to offer my handshake. An extension. To forget the divide and join in friendship.
You do not need to hate me, nor do you need to hate Mr. Sterling. They're just videogames. We're people with souls and hearts.

I never slow down. I'm always a speedy and intellectual thinker. I don't have the time or need to slow down.
I can understand things immediately with precise accuracy due to my intellectually sophisticated mind.
Why hate on folks who present the truth? You take something, like sarcasm/satire, out of context and expect to not be challenged?
The thing is, I don't see this article as a joke at all, or the DP review either, for that matter. The DP score is justified. He loved the game and didn't see any way to have enjoyed it more. That's a 10. You might not agree that such an arguement is good, but I fully understand where he's coming from in that. He thought the game succeeded terrifically, and that's that. With this article, yeah it's flaimbate, but he backs up most of his points (the one about DP being on the 360 can be thrown out). You don't have to agree with his opinions, but I didn't see anything particularly sarcastic about it.

Deadly Premonition is horrific, both in it's blatant rip of Resident Evil 4 style gameplay and it's budget graphics (could there be anymore clipping?), I could comprehend varying scores, but a 10? That's near laughable prestige.
