Next-gen dev costs to hit $60 million - Guillemot.

Plus according to posters, there is a possibility that the next gen consoles might be even more expensive, & that games may be costing $70.

If this is true, I think I'm just going to stick to 360 & PS3, & go right into PC gaming. They're perfect enough as it is.

I dont ever think games will get past 65$ on a regular edition. Dev's will just be forced to take less chances with new IP's. Bigger the budget the better the game usually. Let's wait and see.

This is why PC gaming wins. Small devs actually have a chance, and people can try out something different & innovative when there isn't as big risk involved.

It's already happening this gen but next gen most of the games we'll see will be casual games, Call of Duty and Madden - simply because the costs are too high for the devs to even try anything different, so they'll stick with what sells no matter what.

I think gaming is going to end up in a negative feedback loop. It keeps increasing until it can't support itself anymore, then crashes. And then it starts all over again. I wonder who will still be around after this ineviditable crash when kids can't afford games.

I think $70m is kinda way off. I've been hearing $1m are normal for this gen's games. It depends also actually, blockbusters (FF, MGS, GT) cost more than 20m-90m to make (FFIX, the most expensive FF to develop, costed around $70m) and majority guarantee a 2m++ sales.

All the PS3 fanboys will buy 360s and the 360 fan boys will buy PS3s and finally learn what they missed in the past. They'll stop bashing other consoles and will learn to be peaceful. Just kidding but weren't Snes games like $70?

I don't think it was high-quality graphics that have caused development costs to balloon over the last two generations but the scope you mentioned. That's why, AFAICT, no game has honestly filled up a PS3 BD disc (any that fill the disc now have excessive media clips--sound or video).

AFAIK, only SF2 and SF2T were about $70. N64 carts were about $70, yes, and I think that hurt it in an era when Sony guaranteed PS1 games would never exceed $50 (they could do that because the big price premium then was for ROM chips, not for development).

No one's making claims like that this time around. Closest I heard was from Epic games, who says that consumer graphics tech is about two gens out from photorealism and still has to deal with the "uncanny valley" of properly realistic motion, not just modeling.

Probably more realistic is a claim that every or nearly every game for a console will be 1080p60 locked. PC tech's almost there right now even for complex games like Crysis and high-end RTS's (the latter's tougher but only because it's not the GPU that chokes the game).

I Agree with you there, Your right there are a few games (Crysis being one...And have you seen a game for PC game called "They"?) is damn near close. but if they can pull that off the "1080p 60 locked" I'm sold. Me I'm a gamer so I'm going to buy Next-Gen even if its priced at $70 a pop just going to take less chances on Physical games (from the look of it they all will be Downloadable games anyhow). Now I'm not saying its a must to see NBA Live '13 have to actually require you take a shower before a game and after, but it will be nice to see some other games into the age of photorealism to the T. But if I have to Play FPS on project natal 2.0 or whatever forget it I'm done with Console gaming there's no way to Turn around with a hands free motion.

Um, games in Canada are already 69.99. Bionic Commando, Prototype, Infamous, Guitar Heroes, Tiger Woods, I paid 69.99 for all of them :(. Canada game prices are insane. I'm happy to see a game when its 59.99 haha.

And games like halo 3 sell 8 million and cod6 to sell 11 million. I think these games will do fine.. But this is why the wii is helping out the market, The bigger the consloe market game is the more devlopers can make on AAA games which means prices might not spike any higher

If games become 70 dollars a "pop," then I will simply wait out for price-cuts and deals. I will also borrow a lot of games. Hell, I may even just rent some. Seriously, guys, there's ways around to playing all the best games without spending all your hard-earned cash.

$60 million seems to be exaggerated. Even if it was true, prices on games wont go up, but instead they will be looking for ways to curve overhead.

I'm sure they didn't spend 22 million on Warhead. Because they already had the engine.

Ahaha don't worry with the future, worry with the present : Games in Europe range from 59.89 to 69.89 euros, that's 83.07 to 96.94 dollars.

Thing is, this crap is going on since I was a little kid, so while you are worried to pay a miserable 65 or 70 dollars for a game, we are forking nearly 100 for one.

If it wasn't for free region games, I wouldn't be gaming that much this gen.

It's really sad how much the UK gets ripped off. Even sadder that import gameing is cheeper there.

Well, atleast that 200$ extra PS3 investment is paying off in a non debateable way for you!

Translation: Less new IPs/innovation, more sequels.

I don't think hardcore gamers would stop gaming if price increases, they would just wait more often for price drop, or eat less outside at restaruants, like me.

You freaking bet it is! If it wasn't for the region open thingy of PS3....More than half of my collection is import stuff. The other half was bought at full price thanks to my idiocy in the beginning of this gen.
