Eurogamer: Some Wii U owners are disappointed to see Battlefield 4 is not coming to the console. What, exactly, is the reason for that?

Patrick Bach: The biggest problem we have right now is we don't want to back down from what we see as our low spec machines. We right now don't have support for the Wii U in the Frostbite engine. The reason for that is it takes development time. What should we focus on to create the best possible Battlefield experience? We are now focused on PC and the current-gen platforms, and then there might be other platforms in the future that we can't talk about...

Eurogamer: One of them you can.

Patrick Bach: Yes, in theory, but we won't. But it's important to understand it's about focus and setting the bar. Where do you start? What's the minimum? What's the maximum? What's the scale in-between.

Tobias Dahl: We have long experience with scalability. We've always been making PC games. But we don't want to ship different games dependent on the platform. We need to set the limit somewhere, to have the lowest spec for this title.

Patrick Bach: We could probably make a Wii U game in theory. But to make the most out of the Wii U, that's a different game because of the different peripherals. We want to utilise all the power of each console.

Eurogamer: Are you saying it's not about the power of the Wii U itself, rather, it's about the controller?

Patrick Bach: It's everything. We could potentially make a Battlefield port for the Vita. But what would that game be? Is it something we could scale down from what you saw in the gameplay video, or would it have to be a complete redesign of the whole game?

It's about, where do you put your focus? And the Wii U is not a part of our focus right now.

Tobias Dahl: Going back to the Wii U, it's also a matter of scope. We can only work with so many platforms per person per day. It's a time-consuming thing to be a multi-platform title.

good job EA, why waste your time on garbage, the console is gonna be dead by next year, anybody with a brain would sell it now and pick it up next year for 99$.

Nintendo needs to hit those 1st party titles HARD and make the install base larger.

It is actually worse because it doesn't have the Wii sales to justify what it is.

Wii U uses PowerPC architecture with an AMD GPU. PS3 uses CELL, Xbox 360 an older and noticeably different PowerPC architecture. In addition to this, they need to optimize BF4 for AMD and Intel users on the PC and that includes AMD and nVidia video cards. Not to mention DICE will need to adapt the game to the PS4 and Kinectbox 720. I can understand not wanting to develop for another platform that would have little return and will only make a rather small fanbase who actually bought a Wii U happy. 

It's not as simple as flicking a switch to make a game work on a platform in an instant. I am a Wii U owner and at least I do have a powerful PC to play BF4 if I want to. I own BF3 and I kind of got bored with the game after a while but still a good time killer. Plus I prefer playing FPS games with a KB and mouse anyhow.

They will not move to new consoles if it is no games for them, and 140million sold consoles not= 140million users. Many own more than one system and will not buy same game for multiple platforms.

Oh and i would love to see Sony and MS ship 140million consoles first year....:lol:

But the PS3 and 360 do. That is why they bother. And it is more than just numbers with install bases, it is who makes up those numbers that are important to publishers/developers.

So no Battlefield 4, and likely no Mass Effect or Dragon Age either. Or probably any other EA game from this point forward.

I'm sure since EA is a major publisher, there might be a few vaporware titles that make its way to Wii U, nothing big. But other than that, this situation with the Wii U is just execrable.

I may pick one up for my kids if it drops below $150.

Yet again all those devs and games nintendo promised arent happening
