The game wasn't as epic as Ocarina of Time but the game experience was much more amazing to me. It had great atmosphere and had a much more lively world that was much more immersive. I think the design and characters were all original and felt more attached to them.

Anyone agree?

While I didn't think MM was better than OOT, I thought it came really close. Probably my biggest complaints were the day cycle (Good idea, I just didn't like it that much), only 4 temples, and the useless masks. Beyond that though, I did enjoy the darker story line.

From what little I've played, yes, easily better. OoT was basically just a remix of A Link to the Past. Majora's Mask is something entirely new.

I switch back and forth everytime I think about it. MM is a more unique experience, but OoT was just an amazingly epic adventure from start to finish. I'm declaring it a tie for now.

LINK TO THE PAST is my favorite ZELDA ever made, probably the best one.

Majora had a huge fault with it, in that you had to redo dungeons even after you completed it, it lacked polish that other zelda's had...but then again, it wasn't directed by the MAN, Miyamoto, so that probably explains it.

Now that I read this, I think it pretty much sums up my feelings as well.

OoT was the first game that truly blew me away and made me want to play again and again. But I think MM was a better execution of what makes Zelda great in a setting and theme that was truly unique.

Difficuilt to say, but I'm going to have to go with OoT. The story was great and the final battle was one of my favourite fights ever. I also liked the idea of time travel and the full control of the ocarina. Then again, I don't think I've played enough of MM to fully back up my opinion.

Yeah. More sidequests and things to do outside the story, and tons of awesome masks with different powers.

Plus, the story was the best ever in a Zelda game IMO.

It could have done with an extra dungeon or two, but other than that Majora's Mask is pretty much near-perfect. If it's not better than OoT then it's still definitely on the same level.

The fact that Nintendo developed it n the space of just over a year is astounding.

MM has an atmosphere that needs to be in more games. Seriously, i dont think ive ever seen a game deal with themes presented in MM. The sense of impending doom as you see the clock ticking away at the bottom, lonliness, desperationand loss. And the way its all presented together was amazing.

I wouldnt necessarily want MM2 since i thought it concluded well but i would love if Nintendo made the next zelda as impactful as MM. Very unlikely but hope never dies.

I consider them equal. OOT brought Zelda into 3D brilliantly, while MM was a very different experience from the other Zelda games. MM also showed that the series can be flexible and try new things.

i would have to go with OoT on this one. It was groundbreaking for it's time, excellent story, memorable characters, etc etc.

Majora's Mask did have it's virtues as well. It had a really good atmosphere, even more memorable characters than Ocarina because of the focus on sidequests. My major complaint with it would probably be the main story, which could have been developed more. I did enjoy the challenge of it though, I felt it was a pretty tough game.

They both have their ups and downs, but I hope Nintendo takes the best parts of both games and use it for the next Zelda. i.e. amazing main story, coupled with tons of sidequests to bring life to the world.

Yes. Majora's Mask improved on Ocarina in every possible way. The reason why a lot of people dislike it is because when they played it, they had no idea what was to do at the beginning. They quickly stopped playing the game and said it was stupid.

Yeah. I JUST beat Ocarina for the billionth time a couple weeks ago on the VC, and downloaded Majora's Mask a few days ago. Playing them both side by side is pretty interesting, and while Ocarina is a much more epic game, and it's one of the best games ever, but Majora's Mask is a better game. It's just so much more...amazing. I sit there playing it sometimes with my jaw dropped open, just awe struck at how creepy, dark, sad, and atmospheric it can be. I've played and beaten it before, but the whole experience is just much more involving and interesting than Ocarina's. Majora's Mask is simply put, amazing. In fact, I think I'm going to play it right now!

Also, I love the history of Termina and Ikana, it's somehow based on the tower of babel.

Majora's Mask and Wind Waker are the only Zelda's that I enjoyed. Didn't even like OoT or TP. Well the DS Zelda's were alright, nothing that made me go crazy though. And MM is my favorite by far.

While I don't think MM is better OoT. I didn't find find MM as bad as most do it was a very enjoyable game. Now on the other hand I did find WindWaker (before you have search for Tri Force pieces) and a Link to the Pastbetter than OoT.

SolidTy

um...i dont ever remember having to redo dungeons in majors mask...If i got a important quest item it stayed with you when you went back in time infact most items to do stuff did that they went back in time with you...though it might be the way you played cause i remember mapping out what i had to do in each day so as to take it back with me and do other things but as for that how can it be a flaw in a time reversing game to redo things? i mean thats kind of the point you plan things out so you can get the items you need to do other things in your next timeline so as to get to the next area...

Easily...

  • Walking around Hyrule field is boring as hell
  • MM vastly superior to OoT in the artistic department, with both graphics and sound
  • OoT is way too similar to ALttP

IMHO, of course.

I do now, looking back. When MM first came out (or after I beat it, rather), I felt like OoT was just better, and it was, in some areas like dungeon design. But MM was definitely the better game all around, because it took the foundation OoT laid and immediately started building something entirely new and unique. If only WW (AKA OoT at sea) hadn't pretended MM never existed, the series would be in a better spot right now.

Somehow I really doubt Galaxy 2 will be as much of a departure from Galaxy 1 as MM was from OoT.

No I think the game is very good but having to save in certain places is annoying but it is a very good game but Ocarina of Time is better and so is Wind Waker and Twilight Princess.
