Yahtzee had two very false issues with the controls in the conduit.

1: He complained that pointing off screen would result in you stop turning...except you do turn. I'm not sure where he was getting this idea from. In fact, the same is true for MP3, CoD, MoH, and even Bond...hell even Water Warefare and Onslaught!

2: That this imaginary issue could had been fixed with M+ but nintendo wouldn't let third parties use M+. Very false, as both Sega (the publishers) and HVS (the developer) both gt M+ over a year before Wii Sports Resort's release. HVS simply choose not to use it as it didn't really add anything to the already perfect pointer controls.

Yahtzee's other control complaint was about movement speed, dead zone size, and how far you could look up...all fully customizable. I guess if he had actually opened the menu he wouldn't have had any issues.

Still, the conduit blows anyways.

You can't edit how far you can look up or down. Atleast not from what I saw, but i may be wrong.

Meh....I don't don't take his reviews seriously. If I did follow them, I wouldn't own any games. And besides....The Conduit blows, I had more fun with Red Steel.

yahtzee has made a lot of good points amongst his reviews, he took on the issue of racism, and oh boy did he take on the issue of fanboyism, those are two things that stand out for me that he has said

You can fix your vertical view. You can look up higher or restrict how high you look. When they say EVERYTHING is customizable, they meant it. There's no option you can't customize, which makes any "control" complaints obsolete. You don't like it, fix it.

This is true I have even tried it myself.bigblunt537

The option to enable turning when you point off-screen is found ON THE FIRST PAGE OF CONTROLLER OPTIONS.

You can't edit how far you can look up or down. Atleast not from what I saw, but i may be wrong.bigblun5537

You are, indeed, wrong. The option to edit how far you can look up & down is found under, "controller sensitivity" and is named, "vertical view". By default, it is set at "50", but you can set it to "100" and look up as much as you want.

How did you miss these OBVIOUS control options? Did you even bother to look? I doubt it.

It defaults to off, but you CAN turn the setting on. Either way, its wonkky...

2: That this imaginary issue could had been fixed with M+ but nintendo wouldn't let third parties use M+. Very false, as both Sega (the publishers) and HVS (the developer) both gt M+ over a year before Wii Sports Resort's release. Oh well.

I honestly spent a good hour trying to make sure my settings were perfect.. I play PC games for petes sake (cs, tribes etc etc) so I make sure my settings are perfect, but I couldn't get those controls good if my life depended on it.Yeah, you can fix most of those things, even run speed, but in the end, holding a controller up to a screen will is less than ideal.

Still, the conduit blows anyways.

Yep, next to Haze, this was a huge disappointment. Yahtzee was right about the grpahics too. Horrible.

Its all sorts of fail that a user has to TURN these options on, in an FPS game when they are all sorts of this should all ready be there. Its pretty much paramount to saying, Well hey if you wanna be able to actually shoot a gun you have to turn it on in the options.

OMG, it takes all of 15 seconds to find and adjust those settings. I mean, the game says, "Play the way you want with fully customizable controls and robust calibration.", righ on the box. It goes into even further detail in the manual, explaining what every option does. I understand that many gamers don't exactly have the attention span of an owl, but come on, it's really not that complicated.

I have no idea about most of them I don't watch them and your right lies is a strong word to use. Didn't check facts or unprofessional is better. The fact is he does a quick run over of a game and does not even check his facts then calls his rant a review.

You should come to understand that default game settings are typically formulated in such a way that makes it easy for a novice player to jump into a game. In other words, default game settings are for the novice player that might not have any FPS experience. Metroid Prime 3, Counter Strike, Half Life, etc have default settings that are geared towards the beginner, even though they might not be ideal for an experienced FPS player. An experienced FPS player is EXPECTED to tweak the settings.

If you were to play CS, would keep the default settings? I wouldn't, but I can see why someone that has never played an FPS, especially on PC, might want to stick to the default settings until they get a feel for the game.

The complaint that the default settings aren't ideal in a game that features fully customizable controls is quite petty.

Well pc gaming is completely different as it known for extreme customizability(i know not a word). With pc gaming I usually input console commands to do my dirty work especially for CSS, but for console games I expect nothing more than the ability to changes buttons around and the sensitivity and I'm done. They are 2 different experience. I've never once had to turn on feature "Look at ceiling/Feet" and "When you turn you remote out of sensor bar continue turning"

So, you can change the settings to make it so you CAN look up, right? But it's not a default setting. Whether you have it on or not, you'll (as Yahtzee points out) have to fight enemies that are on the ceiling. Knowing that there were ceiling based enemies in the game, why didn't the developer make the vertical aiming setting default? Regardless of Yahtzee not finding the option, that's still horrible game design.

Firstly, in regards to whether the screen continues to turn if the Wii remote is pointed off screen, console expectations based on past experience are nullified by the simple fact that the Wiimote is new to this generation of consoles. Previous console titles didn't have this setting because they didn't have a Wiimote. Frankly, that is a setting that NEEDS to be in every single Wii FPS. As to what the default setting should be, that is open to interpretation. I actually prefer that the screen not continue to turn if I point offscreen, but I use the smallest deadzone possible and I'm also relatively precise, so I don't feel the need to point off screen anyways. I also use a 37" widescreen display for my Wii, so that makes it easier, as well. On the other hand, I can definitely understand how someone might rather that the screen continue to turn when the cursor is off screen, so I'm glad that the setting is there. Choice is a good thing.

...that's a segway to my next point. More choices/more customization=good. I applaud the amount of customization in the controls for The Conduit. The idea that customization is good for PC, but somehow bad for consoles doesn't make any sense to me. As both a PC & Wii player, I'm glad to see console games take a step towards more meaningful and effective customization that allows players to play with the controls that they want, instead of what the game developers try to impose upon them. Lets encourage more choices & more options, and lets discourage limitation.

Well I guess we have some similarities as I too own a 37" hdtv. I instinctly try to point further to the right in order to turn quicker to shoot someone whose behind me or on the side of me, but instead the crosshair stopped and I got shot even more. I agree that it can be a preference, but I think standard should be it continues to turn. Another frustration I had which cant be changed I believe is the grenade flip. When ever I try to scratch my ear I self explode by accident lol

I, too, self exploded by scratching my ear. It can be changed, however. Under "controller layout", you can switch the mapping around. Here's what I did. I moved "throw grenade" to the '+' button (this works 1000X better, BTW), then I moved the ASE to the Wiimote thrust, and then I moved "melee attack" to the nunchuck. Now, when I scratch my ear, all I do is throw a punch, which is acceptable.

This does mean that as far as melee goes, I'm now a southpaw in The Conduit, but that's fine. I don't see any detrimental effects.

Yahtzee makes satirical reviews, his reviews are never meant to be taken seriously.
