I see alot of PS fanboys saying that blu ray has won the format war
but didn't that war just start, kinda like the SW
so if cows can claim blu ray the winner than lems can call the 360 the winner
or maybe i'm totally f'n crazy

I think the war for the next gen optical format war is very different then a console war. Once one of the formats gets enough of a lead there is no going back. It's the winner. While consoles can do stuff like price-drops, secure exclusive games, marketing campaigns, etc. that can turn a system around. Anyways, Blu-Ray is on the verge of winning the next-gen optical format war. Unless the people in the HD-DVD camp do something drastic in the next couple of months, Blu-Ray is going to win.Zerostatic0
change HD-DVD to Sony
and Blu ray to MS
[QUOTE="AvinashTyagi"]Blu-ray may have beaten HD-DVDbut Sony lostramey70How do you figure? PS3 flopped, and Blu-ray won't replace Standard DVD's any time soon
Blu-ray may have beaten HD-DVDbut Sony lostAvinashTyagiActually, if Blu-Ray wins then Sony has won. They stand to make 2 billion a year in royalties alone if blu-ray wins (by 2010 according to their estimates). PS3 is a way to get more blu-rays in households to convince hollywood to go with the format.

PS3 flopped, and Blu-ray won't replace Standard DVD's any time soon I think Sony would happily trade a format win for a video game win. Blurays don't have to totally replace standard DVD's for Sony to make a sizeable fortune off the technology. If Bluray can create a niche HD market, which is entirely possible, they stand to really rake in royalty income.

To a degree, but Gaming has been a huge money maker for them, they may not be able to recoup those losses, especially when you factor in the losses on the PS3
Gaming has been a loss to Sony as of late. It is also a very low yield market and the costs are only rising. The risk is high, as they are finding out with the PS3.ramey70Well it wasn't a loss until the PSP and the PS3, PS2 was a money maker
No... standard DVD9 format won. There's a long way to go before HD-DVD, Blu-ray or any other format become the industry standard.I see alot of PS fanboys saying that blu ray has won the format war
