Hype aside it's a mixed bag, the main quest I actually really enjoyed and is ultimately what got me through a completion, the environmental presentation with crowd density and general atmosphere is also commendable. For me if you have the hardware the game is worth a playthrough.
As has been well publicized there are plenty of bugs and glitches that can ruin your experience but we'll operate on the assumption the worst of these will be fixed, so I'm not going to drill down on those as part of the critique.
Customisation, CC is full of depth and there are a plethora of clothing/armor options, unfortunately the acquisition of clothes/armor is highly random and can make for a frustrating experience, the CC itself has almost 0 value due to the rarity with which you get to see your character, for all the supposed benefit of first person immersion for my money no third person option in this game was a mistake.
Ai, this was frankly poor, pathfinding around obstacles being almost non existent, clear alert radii, whilst crowd densities etc. are impressive they are ultimately undermined by what can only be described as rudimentary AI behaviour, for a world that looks so good it becomes very jarring.
Sidequests, there are some good sidequests via Panam and other secondary characters, there's a brief but interesting NCPD quest line and I'm sure plenty I missed during my playthrough, unfortunately a greater number of the sidequests than I would like felt very much like filler and ultimately pointless adding little value to the experience.
I could go on, there is a game worth playing there for certain and I would hope the game/content improves from here, that said for me this is not another TW3 where you can sink an ungodly amount of time into the game, I wouldn't be surprised if for a lot of people this is very much a one and done experience.
