They are the "real grahpics" of the day, it's just that with better optimization and as standards improve devs find ways to get more out of the hardware. Of course this has always been the case, but it's kind of inane to compare it to hypothetical unreleased stuff from 2016 since it's not 2016 and that's not what we're playing yet.
The large amount of cross-gen titles will indubitably hold things back even more for the first year or so, though.

True enough, but when the Xbox 360 launched, it's GPU system was actually more powerful than nVidia's top single GPU card (SLI though, PC won). Now, the next gen consoles are more than three times behind a single card solution.
Don´t forget that unlike previous consoles these have off the shelve PC parts,so there´s no "untapped power" or any stuff like that this time.MrYaotuboYou forget teh power of teh mighty GDDR5!

Launch titles indeed to not represent real potential, but everyone who thinks they will see anywhere near as big jump as with PS2 or PS3 is simply kidding himself
[QUOTE="Phantom_Leo"]AAAAHHHHH! COOL SPOT! I played the absolute shit out of that game as a kid :PThis topic is now devoted to games you could play for lunch:

It was a pretty crap game too. I remember playing it and was incredibly dissapointed.
Great Weekend Waster though.

I wouldn't say crap but yeah it wasn't the best. Just had an insane sense of charm. DAM that spot was cool!I disagree
Launch titles can look as good as the later titles
MGS2 was an early PS2 title, not only was it one of the best looking PS2 games, it ran at 60fps, compared to MGS3 which ran at 20fps at best

Except these are PC's, not Consoles
MGS2 was mainly interiors, corridors and small rooms tho. MGS3 was vastly more open and detailed.I disagree

Hey man not being a bullshitter, I have just seen massive jumps from launch to the end in nearly every console I've ever owned. I expect the same from these. The hardware never improves, devs just get better at utilising it.[QUOTE="HaloinventedFPS"][QUOTE="locopatho"] Nope.locopatho

You know what?
I've seen massive differences in graphics since the 8800GTX was released in 2006 and even without changing out that 8800GTX the games still look a lot better. Actually the visuals look a lot better on the 8800GTX than on any console but that is to be expected from a GPU that is around 3x the power of the 360/PS3.
So it's not really something special for consoles.

Exactly yeah, I imagine it's the same for PCs too, devs can do more with less as time goes on. It's awesome. Can't believe God Of War 2 ran on PS2, or the likes of Far Cry 3 and GTAV on the 360 :)[QUOTE="RyviusARC"][QUOTE="locopatho"] Hey man not being a bullshitter, I have just seen massive jumps from launch to the end in nearly every console I've ever owned. Devs simply get better tools to work with overtime. If you give me a pile of sand, I can make a better sand castle using a pre-formed bucket than I can with a jackhammer. The same concept applies to consoles...at the start of the gen devs are using jackhammers and by the end they're using much more refined tools.Well first off I don't eat lunch. Second,
This is the correct sentiment. MGS2 and MGS4 represented the graphical capability of the PS2/3 pretty well, at least early on. MGS5 also does a fairly good job of doing that for PS4/XB1 and was one of the first next-gen games to be shown in a playable state.I disagree

This. Even when the settings go lower and lower with time, graphics continue to get better.
There is NO getting around the fact that both consoles are weak. The XB1 is roughly 3X the XB360 and the PS4 is about 5X the XB360. Had MS and SOny given us a 10X leap these consoles would NOT struggle giving us launch games at 1080p. This is definitely cheap hardware in a fancy box. Really hope that Steambox is sweet.....
