Just wondering what the feedback has been for the psn+ version of driveclub. I spent some time with it (an hour +) and was surprised that the graphics weren't as stunning as I had been hearing... But the weather effects are very cool. The game is quicker in loading and in menus than forza, for example, and while that means little to some, it's important to me in a racer. It handles well and there's some fun here to be had....

I have to say, all in all however, I find the driveclub experience to be wholly unspectacular, but competent.

Anyone run to the store to buy a copy after the free version or are we in agreement?

Got the full game right before they released the PS+ version, and it's a pretty bland, soulless game. I cannot for the life of me get the hang of the steering. Every time I get the hang of something I spin out the next time. Even the drift challenges, the best I ever get is around 5k then my next fifteen runs I can't get over 4,300 points.

I don't think I'm bad at video games, but this one confuses me.

@Blabadon: lol i share many of the same experience. I was really hoping for a more stylized game that augmented the genre through the online connectivity. The concept of driveclubs is cool to me, but the execution is chicken broth.

Also, lol on the steering... I actually think the same thing. How did I do that corner perfect and the next I'm driving off a cliff... Its like every racer where there's an acclimation to it.

My PS+ literally ran out the day before it was released, I'll live without it at the moment though cause I don't feel any real incentive to renew PS+

I bought the game day 1. It's ok but I couldn't get past the narrow roads and strange handling. Also I thought I was the only person on the internet that wasn't floored by the graphics. Those gifs floating around on the internet look much better than the actual game. The weather effects are cool but the roads being wet make the iffy handling almost unplayable for me.

Got it before the PS+ edition. I think it's alright.

The reviews and reception were on point for the game. Nothing special, but it's not like the Ps4 is swimming in racing games, so this was nice.

Is the PS+ version an old version of the game? if yes then buy the full game to experience the visuals. the game has had a ton of updates and fixes and free DLC tracks and cars ,improved visuals etc.

If anyone has the full game then update your game.

@freedomfreak: (I don't know if that's a joke involving how many tips the game gives out so I'm responding seriously)

Usually in most other games I'm pretty decent on releasing the throttle, hitting the brake if necessary, and getting the proper line, but those are arcade games here. I generally am better with the throttle when the challenge with the blue lines show me where to go, but even then I feel a serious lack of traction and often drift out.

My most effective method is bouncing off other folk or doing that scoot method where I stop nearly entirely and kinda scoot my way around sharp corners.

Using the AI as a cushion to get through corners. Always good. And yeah, there's something off with the traction in this game. It's just that whenever you come out of a corner, especially in a car that goes fast, if you push down on the throttle, you'll spin out, because you're suddenly accelerating and that sends you flying.

I found that easing up on the throttle coming out of a corner, I stick to the road. It's definitely something you need to get used to.

@GoldenElementXL: admittedly I was eager to play the game because of the praise I've read about the graphics.... But sadly, after racing day, night, and weather abound... I didn't have a moment where I said, wow this is special. I'm the last thing from a graphics whore, and driveclub didn't change that.

And lol @ "free". Can't play it without first buying a PSN+ pass.

I couldn't wait to try the free version after how much it was hyped as being good. Tried it last weekend and the game is terrible. Just everything about it is poorly done. and it doesn't even look that good in motion.

It got me to buy the 24.99 PS+ deal on the full game. Great game, if I hadn't heard about the PS+ edition and launch server issues. I would have bought it sooner.

I bought it a bit back, it's a good game, handling is how i like it and the different types of challenges keeps races interesting especially when you're in the lead.

As a huge racing fan and sony fan, this game was horrible, period.
Would rather play Forza Horizon 2 or Project Cars to be honest. Hell even Grand Turismo 3.

Thrilling , challenging , addicting , and beautiful. I'm a believer. At first I thought it was too hard especially with the weather , but I kept at it and learned some things along the way. I got 6 out of 6 stars on the middle events in the Startline Tour and now I'm working on the championship. When it's time for a mental break , I just fire up some single event races and set the game on Amatuer and practice while I enjoy the game. I like to listen to gaming podcasts while I drive. It's a definite purchase down the road , but I'm going to milk the Plus edition dry first.

Tried it for about a half hour and didn't care for it. I'll try it again but like others have said, the graphics weren't as good as advertised and the handling was a bit wonky. If anything it made me appreciate forza horizon 2 a little more.

I bought the game when it came out and let me paint a picture for you, the online portion of the game didn't function at all, at least TMCC inconsistently functioned online, this didn't work one bit. The soundtrack is horrible, just a bunch of monotone bass and random trap/techno-esque music, the menu system is extremely bland, on top of this the game was delayed an entire year and released incomplete with no weather and no replay functionality, these things came out months and months later.

The control in game is very clunky and inconsistent feeling, like others have said you can do something one turn but the next you will tank into the wall, it doesn't feel natural and it doesn't feel like you're driving a car. Then we come to the tracks, they're extremely narrow and limited overall, and if you go off the road even a little bit your cars speed is unnaturally gimped, the screen starts flashing at your and you're hit with a speed penalty that inhibits you from accelerating. The AI reminds me of Gran Turismo of late, horrible, no awareness of you on the track, they just want to hold a line and they'll crash into you left and right regardless of you being there, it's like you don't exist.

There is forced online connectivity in this game if you want to enjoy certain vehicles, you have to be a part of a club and the club has to be at a certain level if you want to attain these vehicles, I don't even know where to begin with the stupidity behind this. I don't mind the fact that there is no customization in terms of tuning or parts either, however the fact that you have to earn paint jobs is just ridiculous, it's a tedious task and an annoyance not to mention the stylized paint designs for cars are just ugly and ruin the look of what the game is going for. In terms of content there is enough and more has been added over the months since release, but it's still just a soulless and hollow feeling game.

It's designed in the ideology of games like Need for Speed 2, however it doesn't have the charm and it doesn't execute really anything well. The graphics are really good when you look at a Youtube video, or gif's put on the forums, or photomode screen shots, however get this game running on your own actual TV and a lot of it breaks down. There is a huge amount of aliasing in the game and the jaggies that show up as a result are total eye sores, there is a lack of anisotropic filtering so textures get very muddy at distance, the reflections are quite poor when you stop to look at them, there are low resolution textures and undetailed environments masked by the speed of driving, the only things that actually look good in Driveclub are the weather effects, the lighting, and the car models themselves, everything else is very meh.

Now I have a lot of reasons to criticize this game because a lot of really negative reasons exist, however I still find enjoyment in playing it because it's different, it's very 90's even though it doesn't do that style of game any real justice. You can have fun in Driveclub but you have to really force yourself to play it to find those moments of fun and enjoyment. This game was harshly rated for a reason, it is very generic, it is very mediocre, but it's not a horrible game, it's just not a very good one.

It was definitely better than I thought it would be, and the graphics are fairly beautiful. But I feel like I need a little bit more content released on the free version to completely convince me. I can, however, see the point behind this "plus" demo. Some one else who might be looking for a more streamlined racing experience will definitely pick this up.

the car understeers suddenly, it's very unpredictable how much throttle to apply out of the corners.

I bought it for $7 and was massively disappointed that DriveCult over on GAF misled me in regards to "ermagerd best racer this gen!"

I don't think it's a bad game at all, just a far cry from the bold claims.

I did well enough that I'm worried they'll give it another shot and make another, rather than going back to make another Motorstorm game, especially one that says I'm sorry for Apocalypse.
