Pretty much, but as the GC showed it's hardly the strongest genre to build of nowadays. RE fans are RE fans and there will always be a larger market who dont like the difucelty that survival horrar brings. Yay mass-market.

GCN didn't even get Silent Hill or Fatal Frame, and those were the two best SH series of last gen.

PS2 owned the Cube dude, in Surrvival Horror, if you were a SH (Survival Horror, or Silent Hill fan, you pick)fan you'd know it! It doesn't sound as if you are a fan of SH, so you're opinion is based off the TC, who is and has been Nintendo Biased.

Oh I prefer SH over RE actually- a lot more freaky. But, to say it was a game that sold the ps2 to most people (looking at sales) is a lie.

I have to say PS2 as well. There were just more horror games on the PS2. And I own all those games the TC mentioned for the GCN.

I'm not saying that, although I have two girlfriends that bought a PS2 for SH, that's beside the point. The point is the Topic :

"Did the GCN own Survival Horror Last Gen?"

It most certainly did not.

It tried its hand at survival horror (Resident Evil remake was great btw) but the PS2 was the winner purely by the number of games of that type which came out. More games could and should have come out for the Xbox and Gamecube but didn't. Since Capcom broke its promise of releasing RE4 onto other formats, not releasing it on the Xbox was a crime.

Even though I was a strong Gamecube owner (140+ collection), I bought a second hand PS2 so I could play Silent Hill, Fatal Frame (Project Zero)...

If your question was which system had the best first party games last gen?, well you'll have a different answer.

Is Resident Evil 4 truely survival horror? No it's not. As for saying all the other Resident Evil games are trash, are you talking about RE2 here? RE2 may have been on the PS but it's still a good game. RE3 and RECV(X) are also good games.

Playing Eternal Darkness and RE4 doesn't make anyone a survival horror expert you know.

Id take the entire RE series + ED over any ps2 horror game.

Nope. Silent Hill 3 is much scarier than the Resident Evil remake and Fatal Frame 2 is perhaps the most disturbing game ever concieved. Unless you count Big Rigs or Gods and Generals.

Silent Hill 3 is disturbing and more scary then any game.

RE4 isn't a survival horror. ED is more of a psychological horror.

Definately was one of the best (if not the best), but it wasn't a scary game.

Having both a PS2 and a GC last gen, the GC was sorely outclassed in the survival horror genre.  RE4 was amazing and I won't even talk about the PS2 version.  RE:Remake was excellent too.  But I , having played and beaten every RE game, couldn't bring myself to enjoy RE0.  I just felt bitterly disappointed by it.  Eternal Darkness was alright, but I found it offered little other than the little crazy tricks it pulled.  Other than that the graphics weren't very good, the gameplay just okay and you had to fight what seemed like the same 4 enemies over and over.

The PS2 had the silent hill series, perfect dark, That camera game, the clock tower games, the game from Capcom with the girl and the wolf whcih I never played.  I'm sure I'm forgetting some, AND the PS2 was backwards compatible with all the PS1 games.

I voted for PS2 simply because of the Fatal Frame series. Though RE4 for the Gamecube was brilliant, it just doesn't top either FF in my opinion. The Fatal Frame games scare the crap out of me, RE never has.

RE : 0 Sucked.

Anyways, The Cube wasn't EVEN in the same League as the PS2 for Survival Horror.

The PS2 BESIDES having the

Special Edition RE4,

had Silent Hill 2,

Silent Hill 3,

Silent Hill 4,

Siren,

Fatal Frame,

Fatal Frame 2,

Fatal Frame 3,

ClockTower 3,

and Haunted Mansion, MANY MORE.

Sorry bro.

But REmake, Eternal D. and RE4 cube were awesome, shout out for the lil' cube! It beat the Xbox i Suppose, since the Xbox lived of Survial Horror ports from PS2, save for the great PC Ports DOOM 3/Half-Life 2!

Hooray for rehashes like Silent Hill and Fatal Frame. Too bad out of all the games you listed, Silent Hill and RE4 are the only two games actually worth mentioning. Eternal Darkness was not even scary in the least, it was weaksauce imo.

dont forget Re:make, re2,3,CV,RE4 (with better graphics), and ED id take all ofe these over the 7.0 -8.0 average fatal fram and silent hill series.

Notice how the updated RE games on GCN are superior.

And the purpose of a survival horror game is to scare.  I like RE but RE does fail in that regard compared to its competition.

All survival horror games fail to scare people since the developers dont know how to scare people, I think that is what will make Sadness excel this gen is that it will actually have a scare factor.

Sigh, why are sequels always shrugged off as 'rehashes'? Is it such a crime that the game is good and therefore warrants more of the same? Games can't always be 'fresh' or 'innovative' you know..
